Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWould have liked to have more options for dinner at the hotel’s restaurant. Menu was a bit limited.
Beautiful renovation, spotlessly clean and well designed. Loved the location on the Praca de Alegria, with option to grab a drink or meal at the cafe. Lovely breakfast buffet with many options. Special mention about Raely and Ines, who worked on the front desk. They were so helpful, patient and good humored dealing with all the guests’ requests for directions, recommendations, and general help. Outstanding customer service.

It was old world charming. The location was easy for us to use our Lisbon Card, uber and taxi!! It was close To Avenida Liberdade. The young woman at the desk daily while we were ther was so kind and knowledgeable and spoke beautifu English.

United StatesTwo issues: 1) The occasional noise from the upstairs occupant walking around. 2) The dinner menu was disappointing and the only item I wanted they were out of.
The staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We were in the Master Suite and the room was large with a large bathroom in a back corner of the hotel (not facing the square in front). It was quiet with no street noise. Breakfast was more than adequate; fruit, cheese, eggs-to-order, breads, pastries, yogurt and more. Air conditioning was good. Very good location (just off Avenida da Liberdade). Within walking distance of various cafes and restaurants. And high-end shopping if that's your thing.

United KingdomFurniture in our room was past it's best. The old wardrobe was beginning to fall apart and opened when one walked across the room some distance away. The cabinet that housed the fridge was in danger of collapse and had to be treated with great care.
Beautiful old hotel with lots of character. Excellent breakfast.

CanadaOur room was quite hot, and we couldn't figure out how to make it cooler. But....to be fair, we were so busy enjoying all the sights and sounds of Lisbon, we didn't ask for help from the hotel. One night we ordered drinks and the waiter asked for our order in English but couldn't understand our answers because he couldn't speak English (however he did speak French so we sorted it out in French). Overall a very good hotel and we would stay again.
Location was great. Close to all the main areas. Nice restaurants within walking distance. We loved the park, fountain and kiosk across the road. It was pretty quiet too. The best thing was the olive oil and cheese tasting that we were invited to (free of charge) by the hotel one evening. Because it was free, I must admit we were dubious so sat near the back so we could make a quick exit if necessary, But it was excellent, very informative, lots of delicious things to try, wine. A really nice touch. I liked this hotel and would stay again.

IcelandReally nothing ... of course you could argue that the price can always be lower however ... comparing it to a hotel further from the center does rectify the difference of cost.
Overall atmosphere of the hotel, it's location and surroundings

United KingdomLoved the location.. the square is charming and the bonus of the Alegria is that they have little chairs and tables pavement side which was a lovely place to sit for a drink/coffee etc. In the square they also have a bar with outdoor seating and there was live music one evening. would recommend.

United StatesUnfortunately we didn't have meals there but the dining room looked nice.
The hotel is a beautiful mix of traditional, class, and comfort. The hotel is at a nice plaza and the location is very close to the Avenida metro station. We had a room facing a side street and didn't hear any noise from outside at all. The in-room Nespresso machine was helpful for a quick coffee in the morning.

CanadaWe had different rooms on our two stays. The one on the 3rd floor was less expensive but had only one comfortable chair. The one on the 4th floor was roomier with two small but comfortable chairs. But the first room had two bedside lamps on top of wall-mounts which provided added light for reading. The hotel could add more storage units in the bathroom. Always good to book far from the elevator.
Easy access to transit and lots of restaurants around. Quiet for a street close to busy Liberdad Avenue and good soundproof windows and shutters. The staff was very friendly and helpful for all kinds of requests (restaurants, laundry, where to shop, the best route to get to different places, help with the tv, duck tape to secure walking sticks with one suitcase we left behind for our return a few weeks later). A special mention to Ines. Comfortable bed, nice linen and towels and a dressing gown which gave a spa feeling. The rooms with a garden view are the best. The garden is a little park across the road (fountain, children play area and dog walking) and the quiosque run by the hotel is handy and has live jazz on week-ends (but does not stay open late).

CanadaThe dinner menu looked a bit uninspiring - but we did not sample it so not fair to say .
Very pretty , in a quiet square , close to metro but very walkable to anywhere ( as long as you can manage hills !) Excellent buffet breakfast we tried one morning - might be worth booking the breakfast inclusive with the stay as many cafes nearby are touristy expensive for what they offer and offer largely pastries only .

United StatesThe staff wasn’t overly friendly, but not rude. When I checked in, the receptionist was obviously sick, sneezed in her hand and then she as touching my passport. It was kind of off putting. The other 2 people I spoke with throughout my stay were fine, just didn’t go out of their way to make me feel welcome. Luckily, I had no concerns with my stay.
My friends referred this hotel and the location was perfect! It’s on a cute square about a block away from the hustle and bustle. My room was stylish and comfortable. I loved the open doors to the Juliet balconies and left them wide open often to enjoy the fresh air. I was given an upgrade upon arrival, and definitely appreciated it.
