R.Vale was nice and welcoming. The staff were wonderful. The place was clean and quiet. Continental breakfast in the morning. Steep hill to the place, find by car or about €6 from Funchal in a Bolt car.

The staff gave us good recommendations on what to do, helped us book tours and organized everything for a rental car (including a parking spot). Basically helped us on everything where we didn't plan ahead too much.

General areas could have been a bit cleaner - but it is a minor point and not enough to stop me staying. It's uphill which is just how Funchal is, and there are steps on every level so not suitable for anyone who finds walking difficult but not a problem if you can handle that. Eggs were served for the first two days at breakfast then disappeared, I am sure if I have asked they may have been reinstated. You do hear the noise in the next bedroom so if you are staying please be considerate of your neighbours - you also hear many barking dogs in the area (owners just leave them on the terrace without much stimulation) and cockerals which is not the fault of the hotel but worth bearing in mind if you are a light sleeper.

Good value hotel about a 15-minute walk from Funchal centre. Breakfast is included. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The rooms are basic but comfty and I got a great view from the terrace. Good bathroom with receptive shower. Wifi was also perfect. Good basic continential breakfast - in my opinion, the best coffee in Funchal.

The building is a bit old, people with dust allergies may have some problems; the rooms could use a little renovation; no shampoo supply was a bit of an unpleasant surprise

The bed was uncomfortable and it was quite chilly in the room. There was extra blankets provided so I managed ok. There was no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. The decor is very dated.

The view from the room was exceptional. The staff were very friendly and the location was perfect. The room was pretty basic but that's what I was expecting for the price. Although it was basic my room was clean and it was cleaned everyday during my stay. I travelled here solo and I would stay here again.

The very first contact on arrival was a bit colder, but it was immediately better the day after.

The personnel was friendly and took the time to explain and give suggestions in detail for things to do. The big terrace with the view was also a big plus I didn't even notice before booking :)

The rooms smelled musty when we moved in. Opening all the windows helped a lot. Most of the smell disappeared after a day. Initially there was some dirt on the floor in corners. But maid service did a good job of cleaning the bath and the major surfaces daily.

Very adequate, not fancy. The facility is older. Consistent with a neighborhood and town that are historical. Excellent professional staff and very helpful. Our accommodations were two rooms, with closets, hall and large bath. Nice breakfasts, and pleasant common areas. Good location for those who walk. But steep for those who don't. But you can always call a taxi.

The breakfast was basic but fine. Unfortunately the facilities and structure itself is old, the rooms are very basic and noisy, the bathrooms are not great... And the walk is quite steep, not the best at the end of a long day hiking and exploring. But they do the best with what they have.

The staff was very kind, upon my arrival they gave me useful information. The view from the terrace is beautiful.

Good location. 10 minutes for a walk till the centre, moreover majority of tourism companies can take from a hotel to the tour. Personel. Very helpful and kind, always ready to advise and provide all sort of information. During reception provides very detailed information about hotel and city. Atmosphere. In the hotel only good vibes. I really loved my visit. During the next trip in Madeira, It will be first place to live on my list.
