Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

HungaryNot enough place to pack. We stayed 5 nights, there is a small cupboard for 2 person and the refrigerator (which was not working) and the safe was in it, so there was no place left to pack our things. Also no hangers on the walls to at least have extra space to some of our items. Since the window looks inside, to the middle of the building, and that is covered from the top, we couldn't get fresh air, no ventillation (I wonder how the bathroom is not moldy, there is no ventillation system). Our first room was right by the steps at the second floor, it was very noisy with all guests coming and going, we asked for a room change. They were really nice and helpful, and we got another small room the most further from the stairs. But as it turned out late night, that room was just above the bar with dj music next door. We heard all the music until 3 am as we were there, the bass shaked our bed. Luckily, there is no party every night. Also, when there is live music (from 8 to 11) it is ok, you can't hear that. Only the DJ is loud, starting 11pm usually until 2 am, but not every night, only some days of the week (in our case it was weekday, and we were told it's on weekends)
Excellent location! In the middle of the old town, close to everything: pier, Cathedral, main street, main square, teleferico, good restaurants, etc. In walking distance you find everything. Breakfast is ok, keeps you for the day, same everyday, with fruits, sweets, egg, etc. Room is clean and nice, but small so only good if you are out all day and just come back to sleep. Many rooms has window only to inside, to the inner place which is the breakfast place (I attach photos): it's good that those are not for the street, so it's not noisy all night but note that they start to prepare for breakfast early and you hear all that. Staff is really nice, kind, and helpful.

HungaryLive music in the bar next door. The breakfast is so-so.
The location and staff are super. Though there is a bar just next to the hotel where there is live music until midnight. Be prepared that you will not be able to sleep. The bed is comfortable.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was comfortable, however very tiny. The hotel is very well located, in the heart of Funchal, however no parking provided. The breakfast was amazing!

Czech RepublicLocation in the center brings the noise from the outsider, there was also a noise from the reception - depends on the room you get (we got the one right next to the reception desk). A bit small bed (if you are 1.8m+ :)).
Clean apartment with a perfect location in the centre of Funchal. A friendly and helpful staff. Possibility of luggage storage after check-out time.

PortugalOur room was noisy, from noise in the hotel, as it is very echoey. Our window opened into the breakfast area, so we were woken by staff preparing breakfast at 6.00 am. The bed was too hard and pillows hard and lumpy.
It was clean and modern. Kettle supplied in room. Small fridge. The location is great, right in the old town near everything. The breakfast was good with a lot of choice. Staff were friendly. Bottled water was left for us.

SlovakiaOur room was directly above the breakfast area, so we could hear staff preparing breakfast. Even when it woke us up, the staff was so nice and friendly that we were not that bothered by it after all.
I really loved the place, from the amazing and really helpful staff to delicious breakfast and amazing location in the city center. Also I love the details, so names of the rooms based on Levadas around Madeira was very cute detail. Plus when we had the early morning hiking trip, they were so nice to prepare snack for us for the trip. If you are planning a stay in Funchal, I HIGHLY recommend to stay in Zarco! Thank you again for great stay :)

UkraineThere was too active night bar right under our window, and it was quite loud outside until 2-3 a.m. But we were in Funchal during Christmas - NY holidays, hope in other periods it will be more calm place.
Really friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast, central location, comfortable bed, good bathroom and other facilities in the room. We liked this accomodation, good money-quality value.
