Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PortugalThe room was comfortable and clean, and the breakfast had a good variety. It looks like a newly renovated building with a minimalist design, and I didn't feel like we need anything else, especially because the location is very central.

Excellent location for the center of Funchal. Near everywhere, including only 50 meters away from stop 6 of the Aerobus to airport. The breakfast was quite sufficient.

Czech RepublicA lot of noise from the atrium, there should definitely be sound-proof glass in the space between the rooms so that guests are not disturbed by the noise from the cafe in the morning and at night.

United KingdomSome of the rooms do not have windows opening to the outside of the building. The window opens to a bright hall, but there is a panoramic roof above it, the space is closed and there is no fresh air. The rooms are poorly soundproofed and you can sometimes hear outside sounds.
The hotel is a great starting point as it is very close to many attractions. The hotel is newly renovated. Our room was a bit cramped but it has a charm of its own. Very comfortable beds and modern, multifunctional air conditioning. Breakfast is basic but the rolls, bread and croissants were baked in the kitchen daily. The service is very polite and helpful (Katia in particular does her best to solve the problem and does it very efficiently).

HungaryIf you're renting a car: it's quite hard to find parking space close to the accommodation (not too many parking spots in the city center + you have to pay during the day and at many spots you can only park for 1 hour). So if you're with a car in Madeira, I'd recommend to book an accommodation in a smaller town or somewhere, where they provide parking. There are bars nearby, so you might hear music or loud talking noises during the night, but it's not worse, than at any other accommodation in any city centre. The room is quite small (but adequate if you only want to sleep there) with only basic equipment. So for eg. there are no glasses, there's only one chair (in a room for 2), not too many place to pack your clothes or open your suitcases.
I'd recommend this place if you'd like to stay in the heart of Funchal on a budget. The location is really great: -it's in the heart of Funchal, next to a nice square and close to the cathedral -lots of restaurants, caffees, bars, shops nearby - you can find all kind of bus stops within 2-3 minutes walk (to get around in the city, to travel to different cities and to get to the airport) The staff is really helpful, there's 0-24 hour reception, you can find someone at the reception desk all the time, who's willing to help you in anything. The breakfast is simple, basic continental breakfast. You can also ask it for take-away, if you need to leave early. The room was really new, everything was in great condition.

United KingdomNoise at breakfast time. I get up early so was not a problem for me but my husband likes to sleep late so not so good for him.
Hotel was clean. Staff were friendly, courteous, and happy. Always someone available on reception. We were able to leave our bags both before and after check in. Room was very clean. Bathroom was a bit tight but shower had plenty of room. Out room was overlooking the breakfast area so was quite noisy in the morning, but very quiet at all other times. Hotel appears quite new so all facilities were modern. Breakfast had normal toast, ham, boiled eggs, pastries, muffins and fruit, but was plentiful.

CanadaMy expectation were greatly deflated when we saw the size of the room. Dear Booking inform Zarco that on your site the room size is identified as 25sqm when in fact all the rooms are closer to 15sqm or less. The indicator on booking of the room size is a key metric when a customer is looking for a place to stay.
Location in the old town was excellent. The breakfast was good and the staff were very friendly. The staff were very accommodating when faced with early arrivals and leaving our luggage for the day after checkout.

The price-quality ratio is excellent. Rooms get cleaned daily and have AC, which is much needed on Madeira. Breakfast is great, flexible check-in and check-out.
