I have learned I am a little too old to stay in a Hostel. The facility was great, I am just not suited for that sort of accommodations. The only reason I didn't rate the comfort higher was the bed was a bit too small for me (and I am not a big person) and 6 persons to a room is a lot. I had previously only stayed in hostels with 4 to a room. The 6 person room made bathroom time a challenge for use of the single shower.

The staff was friendly and caring and really did an excellent job. The breakfast was lovely, the common space and garden were nice and inviting. They had a lot of travel information ready for our use to make our Azores adventure even better!

Our room was at ground level, just behind the main entrance that was quite noisy, and we could hear whoever was coming in at any time. Also our window was directly on the main road so we couldn’t open the blackout curtains (people would have seen inside), I would suggest to put some voile curtains to add privacy. Staff not speaking English.

I'd been before in other hostels and this one is a luxury hostel. It'd really quiet at night since Azores is a place for nature, not partying. It's exceptionally clean. Bed sheets and towels are changed each day. It feels like a shared apartment with people from all over the world. Most of them search for nature and quietness. There is no reception but the staff lives in the house behind the garden so there's no problem.

There were two things that could be improved, but the owner made it very clear from the start so I already knew what to expect: - no flexibility in terms of dropping your bag before check-in time - you miss on the breakfast if you have to leave earlier to pursue aquatic activities (in my case it was scuba diving). But you can buy your own breakfast and use the kitchen facility to prepare it in am.

The hostel is probably the cleanest and tidiest I've ever seen. Very close to the city center. The rooms and bathrooms were kept super clean and tidy - so it was always a pleasure to walk back in the shared room. Breakfast was also lovely. Owner is incredibly friendly which makes for a even better stay. Definitely going back!

There is only one rail attached to the front of the bed to hang stuff. I had the lower bunk bed and so the rail was too close to the floor to spread my wet towel to dry or even just to hang my shirt without it touching the floor. It would be good to clean and air the locker after each guest as mine smelled of unwashed laundry from previous guest(s).

Beautiful modern house with clean and new furnishings, a well-equipped kitchen and plenty of space to work in the living room. Walkable distance from restaurants in Ponta Delgada and the SPAR supermarket. I stayed in late March during the off-season, so the house was very quiet and the 6-bed dormitory was only half occupied. It helped that fellow travellers were considerate using the shared spaces and the bathroom was always clean. The bedside locker (that doubles as a bedside table) provided is just sufficiently large to store a medium sized backpack. There are balconies on both sides of the dorm room, so the natural light in the room was very pleasant and there's always a lovely view of the morning/evening sky. The continental breakfast was standard but more than sufficient. Loved that there was warm pastel de nata served for breakfast! There is no front desk; check-in is done via WhatsApp. Pros and cons to it - Pros: Feel free to be at ease and make yourself at home Cons: I did not have any issues that needed to be addressed during my stay, but I understand that some may prefer a staff on-site to address queries. Also, some people may not feel comfortable checking-in and sending over personal passport info via WhatsApp.

Everything, the Hostel is located very near to the city Center, there is a supermarket very near as well as small restaurants and it is relatively easy to park in the area. The Hostel is new and very well kept, the kitchen is equipped with everything needed to cook and the included breakfast is good. The cherry on top: the day we left, the owner prepared us a lunchbox for the trip with our name on, so nice 🙂

Even though we believe that everything was perfect we would like to suggest to install more hangers (maybe inside the shower) to hang bathing suits and towels. It's an Island full of aquatic activities and this would be helpful to dry things.

The check-in was very practical and easy. The room really amazed us: beautifully decorated, very clean and modern. We loved the welcome gifts. The bed was very comfortable. We liked the big shower. The hostel downstairs living room with kitchen and the patio created the perfect environment to hang out with other guests and to share some nice moments. The kitchen was very well equipped and the breakfast was very good. The Santa Alegria Hostel team was always available, they were very kind and helpful and made our vacation in S. Miguel Island even more perfect. Thank you Inês and Candido, you made us feel like home and we hope to visit you again!

No luggage storage available before check-in time or after checkout time. No mini breakfast option if need to leave before 8am breakfast start time.

New hostel. Well designed with lots of common areas to hang out in including a nice back yard, a few nice balconies and comfortable living room. You check in online to get the entrance code and room/bed assignment. Breakfast was very tasty with some high quality items not typically offered. Beds were solid and didn't make noise, were comfortable, and had charging near. The assigned storage box had a key (provided). An extra bathroom on the first floor was a back-up if the room bathroom occupied with a long shower. Overall, very nice setup and furnishings. Also I liked the restaurant recommendation.
