Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PolandVery comfortable, spacious apartment with a small but nice terrace with a sea view. Equipped very well, you have in the apartment everything what you need, and more :) In a walking distance (10 min down, 15-20 min up ;) ) from the old town. Nice host welcomed us with a bottle of wine and some sweets in the apartment. We didn't use it, but it is possible to ask for a airport transfer, rent a car and there is free parking in the building available for the guests. We really enjoyed our stay.

PolandThe owner organized transport to and from airport. A car renting was also handled by owner, a new car was waiting for me in the garage. Parking place is a must since it is not easy to find a parking place in Funchal.

PortugalI’m not sure if it’s related to the area or to Madeira itself but there were a lot of mosquitos. We bought a cheap mosquito killer and it worked like a charm!
A hidden gem. Bed and pillows very comfortable!

United KingdomJose is a perfect host. So friendly and helpful. We arrived very late but that was not a problem for him. He also arranged a taxi from the airport for us. Nice and clean apartment . We had a great stay , most likely we will return and we will recommend Jose and his lovely apartment to our friends. P.S. thank you for a bottle of wine, bottle of water and biscuits. It was very needed after a long day , especially the wine ;-) Thanks again for a nice stay.

SloveniaThe building has no heating and we were quite cold in the morning and in the evening ( February ). Luckily there was a small heater in the apartment which helped a lot.
The owner of the apartment Mr. Pereira was waiting for us at midnight and kindly explained everything about the apartment. The apartment is located on the second floor, it is very comfortable, fully equipped and very clean. There was a welcome gift on the tabe: bottle of wine and typical Madeiran sugar cane cookies. We enjoyed our stay in the apartment very much. Since there is are big parking problems in Funchal it is very important that there is a parking space available in the basement of the building.

United KingdomThe bed was fairly hard, although I'm used to one much softer. Personal choice. A bit of road noise from outside but nothing too bad at night this subsides to practically noting. The main entrance door slams very hard so if you have people come in and out late at night It can be a issue. Its a steep hill to walk from the main strip of Funchal, others might find this too much. I rented a motorbike so wasn't a issue for those 4 days.
The apartments have a garage where you can keep a car overnight and safe. Washing machine came in handy and the shower is very powerful. It's fairly quiet at night. Large rooms. Windows in the bedroom and living room have secondary external slatted shutter doors allowing you to get good ventilation whilst maintaining privacy. Josè the host took me to the airport at 5am the day I left for £25, cheaper than a taxi which will cost €35 to €40

United KingdomThere are quite a lot of mosquitoes coming inside, as the apartment is right above a little river steam. On the second night we had to get up in the middle of night to get rid of them so that we could sleep. It would have been nice if there is a mosquito net over the bed or some repellent products provided. Also, a full-body mirror would be nice too :)
The property was very clean and has a fairly well equipped kitchen, which were the most important thing for us! The kettle and tea were a plus! Bedroom was spacious and the bed was very comfortable and big. Although there is a big dinning table in the living room, we preferred to have our breakfast at the East facing balcony which was bathed in the morning sun! (we suggest that José could put a little folding coffee table there so that the place can get better used when the guests don’t use the space to dry their clothes) 😊 The location of the apartment is about 15 minutes walk (downhill there and uphill back) to the town centre, which was okay for us, as we like our walks. There is local café just a few minutes walk uphill from the apartment, it has nice breads and pastries, and the price is much cheap than downtown. It has a parking garage at the bottom of building, which takes a bit of skill to park but good to have. The owner José is very kind and welcoming.

GermanyGreat apartment to explore Madeira island! It is located close to the Funchal center, but is a little bit uphill. Not a big problem, if you are fit. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the old town by foot. There is also a bus station right in front of the house, but we never used the bus. There is also a small supermarket just around the corner. The house has its own garage, where you can park your car. It is a bit narrow, but it is still much better than parking the car outside on the narrow street (all streets on Madeira are narrow). Apartment itself is quite spacios, very clean, and good equipped. It has everything you need. And the bed was extremely comfortable, like in a 5star hotel.
