How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Breakfast was excellent but so was the room and the host who was incredibly informative about Portugal. He recommended Tomar which we then visited. What a find, interesting history and fantastic convent and helpful tuk tuk drivers

Can’t think of a thing!
Mario & Paula were excellent hosts. Both were easy to speak with and Mario had some funny stories & great travel suggestions. Everything was tidy & quite comfortable. Enjoyed breakfasts with their home grown touches & eggs form their chickens.

Nothing really, it was outstanding & would love to return.
The hosts were just incredible, The pictures don’t do justice to the rooms - they were so nice & of good size, The breakfast was made with so much love, it felt like home and we are pure vegetarians, The hosts practice yoga & meditation and it shows as they are so loving and calm. There is also a beautiful meditation center & Buddhist temple about 15 min walk away, resonates the area. The place felt so positive we didn’t feel like leaving!

Maybe a little far from town for some people. We usually stay near the centre of towns, cities we visit, but of course then there are issues with parking, traffic, noise etc.
Mario is an amazing host. He told us of some of the history of Portugal, showed us his garden, drove us in to Sintra and picked us up. Took us to a recommended restaurant and picked us up when we called , made recommendations for places to visit etc., etc.. Thank you so much for your hospitality, Mario ! Paula and Anna are very nice, but we did not have a chance to speak with them very much. We had a nice view of the Palace & Castle from our large suite .The house is in a quiet area with free parking right at the door. There is a large shared kitchen available. It is just a 10 minute drive to Sintra centro.

Great B&B with wonderful English speaking host who provided helpful recommendations and suggestions. Bed and pillows very comfortable. Our room had a view of Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle. Quiet neighborhood 10 minutes or less from sights in Sintra. Free dedicated parking for B&B right in front. Highly recommend would stay again.

We loved the hospitality and the space. Mario and Paula were exceptional hosts and really went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. The conversation was really interesting and we learned a lot about the local area and history. The view from our room of Sintra was stunning, and we loved the location. It was really nice to be close to Sintra but we appreciated the quiet area out of the hustle and bustle. The beds were so comfortable and the room warm too. Would highly recommend- we didn't get a chance to have breakfast but it looked fantastic, all organic. For next time we stay! Muito obrigada

Only that we couldn't stay longer.
I read the reviews and can fully concur with all the best parts of them. We, my wife and I, felt so lucky to have found this haven of loveliness. Very kind, warm, friendly and hospitable hosts in their beautiful home, they could not have been more welcoming and yet discreet. Pretty much every part of the very varied and interesting breakfast was home made, just a shame I couldn't manage every delicious crumb. Where else have you ever had a breakfast salad that contained St Theresa rose petals? No, me neither. Sintra is lovely and needs more exploring as we had only 2 days. Next time we won't bother looking elsewhere for accommodation, we'll just hope that all the other regularly returning guests don't beat us to It. Thank you so much Mario and Paula, I've never been so happy to write a review.

nothing! The only thing for everyone to keep in mind is that you need a car if staying here, it's about 5 minutes driving to Old Sintra
the breakfast was amazing, everything home-made and much of it also home-grown. The meals were vegetarian, and we also had one vegan in our group, and Paula made sure to include delicious alternatives to any dishes that had dairy or egg in them. We also had nice conversations with both Mario and Paula who gave us lots of pointers about the area.

This place is more than a guesthouse. It's a home away from home. The owners Mario and Paula clearly take pride in making you feel welcome and helping you to make the most out of your stay. They even give you a lift to Sintra town or restaurants. And you have to try their breakfast!!! Home grown fruits and vegetables (chemical free), freshly prepared and cooked. Amazing!

The hosts are some of the kindest people we’ve encountered! Mario gave us a warm welcome and had been really helpful and nice to us for our entire time staying there, and thank you guys for rescuing our laundry when it suddenly rained (I’m sorry it slipped my mind so I didn’t express my gratitude back then). The room was always kept really clean and the kitchen is convenient for us as well. It’s a great experience!
