We were looking forward to staying in this unique stone house and everything was perfect, it really could not of been better. Beautiful views and sunsets. Monsanto is truly amazing. Eloiza is an incredible host, she will take incredible care of you.

Too bad it rained but everything about the cottage was fine.

I have been looking forward to staying here for months because of its uniqueness and I wasn't disappointed. Accommodation exactly as described, including the giant rock that went from the bedroom down to the living room. Comfortable and well equipped, including firewood and matches. A delicious breakfast was delivered and set up in the morning by Eloiza, and she led us back to our car when we were leaving.

Fantastic, friendly hosts met us in the parking lot, grabbed our luggage, and showed us the way to the house. The house itself is better than you can see in the pictures. We were offered two welcome drinks and told where the most beautiful locations were. The breakfast was way above our expectations.

One has to go there with an open mind as it is on a mountain top.

It was such an interesting location - on a mountain surrounded by huge boulders. Even the place we stayed in was partly made from a bolder. If anyone wants a new experience - this is for you. And must complement Eloise, our hostess who was just amazing. So helpful and kind.

My wife was concerned that it would be cold and drafty, but that was not the case. A cozy fireplace and amenities like a stove and washing machine made the stay great. It’s an amazing old stone town and I wish we had stayed longer.

This accomodation was wonderful. Eloisa was super helpful and went out of her way to make our short stay feel special. Our luggage was transferred to the room via a very cute tiny electric vehicle. The room was literally part of the hillside and has a genuine old world feel. The breakfast was served to our room and was excellent. We can happily recommend Sunset house to anyone looking to stay in this beautiful original village.

The breakfast was served in our room and it was excellent. To call it a room is not correct. We had a one bedroom, two storey suite. There was a massive boulder in our bedroom. How cool is that? We loved everything about this property.

Our bed was quite firm but this seems to be a common feature of guesthouses throughout Portugal.

This is a unique property in a unique village - there’s nothing else like it! Staying here gives one the experience of life in a genuine historic place. The host, Eloiza, communicated well before our arrival and provided an excellent breakfast. She transported our luggage from our car parked at the bottom of the village through the steep narrow streets to the guesthouse using a tiny electric car. She also booked a restaurant for us for the night - important as there are only two. A fun experience!

Not applicable, we had a perfect stay.

The house is very atmospheric, with a huge boulder protruding into the bedroom! The hosts are genuinely friendly and going out of their way to may you feel welcome. As an example, upon hearing that we brought food and will eat at home, Eloiza brought us her home-made soup (which was delicious by the way). Fernando, her husband, speaks good English and we had no trouble communicating.

A very special village. Elizabeth is a lovely hostess who went above & beyond. She met us at a carpark nearby with her little car to take our bags & show us the way to the apartment which is full of charm. We loved roaming the village or just sitting on on our terrace with the view. A lovely breakfast too

We liked everything.

Everything! I can't really imporve on the positive comments of other visitors to Sun Set House. Monsanto is a wonderful hill town, Sun Set House is beautifully appointed and immaculate, our hosts were gracious and endlessly helpful. Altogether - worth not just a vist but a major detour: staying in Sun Set House in Monsanto would be a highlight of any holiday. Totally outstanding!

This is not a comment about the cottage as such, but shopping and dining options in Monsanto are very limited. So if you want something, bring it with you. The little streets and lanes in the village are narrow, and steep in places. This is not a place suitable for the mobility impaired.

Beautiful little stone cottage in the quaint and quirky town of Monsanto. The hosts provide clear and comprehensive instructions despite Eloiza's complete lack of English. It is not possible to drive to the cottage but they have a tiny electric car which they can use to ferry your suitcases etc from wherever you park to the room. The kitchen is perfectly adequately equipped for a short stay and has a supply of the basics (oil, salt, pepper, dried herbs etc). Eloiza puts on an excellent breakfast spread each morning. After we got home I asked my wife "If you could have one more day in Portugal where would it be"? Her answer, without hesitation, was Monsanto!

NA - We loved the entire stay and it was amazing and one of the most memorable experiences we have had whilst travelling!

1. Firstly we received great advice by the hostess, prior to our arrival, on the location to park our vehicle, the hostess contact number and the contact number of her partner, who spoke English. 2. After contacting the number on arrival, the hostess turned up to our car parking location, with a small electric vehicle and drove our luggage to the accommodation location, which was great as it was a hot day! This helped us find the location also without using GPS or map, which was extremely helpful and appreciated. 3. The hostess herself was so friendly and inviting and we felt immediately welcomed and at home. 4. The accommodation was beautiful and in a great location, within the village and overlooking the valley. Close walk to the mountain top castle and also the rest of the village of Monsanto. 5. Very clean accommodation, with nice kitchen, fridge, bathroom, washing machine, cable TV and comfortable bed in AC room, with welcome drinks provided by the hostess. 6. The breakfast was AMAZING and personally delivered to the balcony area by the hostess. 7. Finally the hostess (through her English speaking husband) gave us tips on places to see in the local area and then again drove our luggage (with her little electric vehicle) to our car parking location when we checked out.
