What's not to like????

I walked the Portugese Camino and after 3 weeks this was absolute heaven (on my return journey I stayed here) Staff were helpfull and friendly. Dorms, bathrooms exeptional - view from lounge area was spectacular. Port tasting and gift shop is a must!

Booking.com message that my booking was hacked required me to re-book at a higher price of nearly£100.00. Despite several messages, no response from Booking.com. Not the fault of Sandeman.

Great location, friendly and helpful staff, very good omelette for breakfast served from 08:00-11:30. Sociable arrangements for breakfast around a large table. Great opportunity to meet and chat with fellow travellers to exchange experiences.

This was one of the best hostels I've stayed. After finishing the Portuguese Camino I came to stay before heading home. The hostel was really well laid out with the alternating bunks, very clean accommodations, and wonderful staff. Very lively area with things to do, great food choices. I can't rate the place high enough.

Great staff, excellent value, comfortable and unique hostel experience. Took our bags there before check in and allowed us to use lockers. Free coffee all day so good. Breakfast included which was super. Offered a pilgrim meal in the evening which was good value too. Bathrooms clean and spacious. Lounge area very comfortable with fridge and great view over the city. Location on south side of river was excellent. Loved our stay and would highly recommend.

Nothing really - Once I got my head round the fact that it was part of a hostel (partner booked it!) and not a hotel, I loved it!

It was beautiful and well kept. They had nice amenities that you don’t get at most hostels. The location was perfect yet felt quiet for being in downtown area.

Beds and pillows were a bit too firm for our preference. And lots of stairs to our top floor room.

Amazing location and great views. Staff was friendly and helpful and prepared breakfasts on order were delicious and convenient. Cool vibe.

There isn't a single thing I didn't like or even think could be improved on. Just perfect

Every aspect of this hostel was incredible! The beds are the most comfortable you could ever find in a hostel. The vibe of the hostel is perfect. The staff are top class. It's like a 5 star hostel at an excellent price.

Nothing, there was absolutely nothing bad at all.

Wow, where do I begin. The welcome by staff was so lovely, they ate so friendly and helpful. The building itself is stunning, it is beautifully decorated. The dorm rooms are lovely, beds so cute. Breakfast was delicious. This is definitely one of the best hostels I have stayed in. The staff are excellent

Great location. Good vibe. Nice living room and bar area. Group dinner is so worth it. Staff is great and super helpful. Beds are comfortable and as private as possible. The mixed room has more bunks in it than the woman only. I have stayed here two years in a row and would stay again. Love this place.

We had a fantastic stay at The House of Sandeman. The location is excellent, just next to the Douro River with a spectacular view of the opposite river side and the Ponte Luís I Bridge. Our room was immaculately clean and very comfortable. Room and suite decors are amazing. Furthermore, the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely choose this accommodation again when staying in Porto, respectively, Vila Nova de Gaia.

Bathrooms need a hand towel and floor cloth as the shower wets the floor and the you've a wet, middy floor! Staff did provide upon request but would expect it as standard given the price they make for full dorms.

Amazing location. Afternoon tea served at 5pm. Free water available. Friendly and helpful staff, although when leaving with a lot of cases, it would be nice if they offered to help you as there are no lifts. Large, comfortable beds. Decent breakfast. Generally Clean. Good amount of bathrooms in the dorms. Large, spacious rooms.

One night late arrivals were checked in at 1.30am which woke everyone sleeping in the dorm.

Location was excellent, lovely communal areas, a hostel dinner for €10 was a wonderful way to meet people. Plenty of showers. Great breakfast. Beds were comfortable.

We really enjoyed the free breakfast and the evening meal was really good value for money (10 euros for a 3 course meal and glass of wine). The lounge/common area was lovely and comfortable and all the staff were very accommodating.

A great hostel. The staff were so friendly and super helpful. The hostel is clean and felt safe for a solo traveller. It's also centrally located and has a amazing view. The breakfast was really good. As was the evening meal.
