The room floors are not well insulated and you can hear other people walking. We had our downstair neighbours knocking on our door saying we were jumping but we were just getting ready for bed. Maybe not the place to stay if you are going with kids, other people might be looking for some peaceful time.

Such a jewel!!! I loved the concept and execution, it really feels you are in Ryokan in Japan. Everything is super clean, beds are very comfy, we ordered evening meal and it was just magical. Service and curtesy of staff is what really make this place special. you feel welcome and at home. Location is also top. Highly recommend

Due to the location being in an older, renovated, building, some more noise is to be expected due to poorer insulation, even though it wasn't a deal breaker. There was much in terms of view from our room. The Japanese breakfast should ideally be included. The shower system (with two heads) and amenities wasn't very good for people with long hair (only one shower cap for a couple with both having long hair).

The location is phenomenal, in a very quite street with lots of commerce and no cars, being very close to most important landmarks in the historic center. The staff is very friendly and the provided facilities and amenities were acceptably good. The futon was thicker than most traditional futon, very comfortable. The bidet toilet was amazing. Even though it's a paid, the traditional breakfast was amazing. I'm not the biggest fan of heat, so the Spa wasn't meant for me, but seems good for the value added to the reservation for those that enjoy it.

It was a great stay! The staff was very friendly, comprehensive and helpful. The room was very comfortable and clean and the japanese vibes were all over the ryokan. The SPA moment was relaxing. I had the japanese breakfast experience and it was so tasty!

Amazing experience! The staff is very kind and attentive. The rooms are confortable, clean, great ambiance. They offer a continental breakfast and tradicional japonese breakfast (highly recommend). Guests are invited to use the spa area and can also book a massage, for those interested. Great location. Compared to other accommodations in the area and considering prices, this is a great choice.

Insulation between rooms not the best

Staff were great and SPA was a lifesaver after an hour's cycle through the thunderstorm. Breakfast also decent. Located right in the historic old town so a good base to explore Viseu

Right in the center of town and easy to find. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The building mix of traditional Portuguese and Japanese gives the place a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. The bed was comfortable and the "magic" toilet was really fun! Both the jacuzzi and sauna followed by breakfast (kasutera included) was an amazing way of starting the day. The traditional breakfast was also really good and worth trying.

Set deep within the winding streets of the beautiful, ancient city of Viseu, this Ryokan is a cosy little gem dedicated to Japanese hospitality. After a long drive in torrential rain we were welcomed by Tania with hot ginger and lemon tea as we checked in from the comfort of the sofa. Swapping wet shoes for slippers in true Japanese style, we we're given the full tour and then guided to room 5 (there is no room 4!). The room itself was bright, warm and cosy, with the tatami mats and yukata gowns providing that extra level of comfort for a minimal but intimate aesthetic. My wife and I sat crosslegged across the table and drank more tea. Later we had a couple of Japanese beers from the fridge before heading out. The next day, after rainy explorations in the city, we came "home" to the Viseu Ryokan and spent a solid 30 minutes de-stressing in the sauna. We ate gyoza and ramen in the communal kitchen for dinner, served with grace and panache by the whole team. More Japanese beer and a glass of Nikka rounded off a relaxing night. Saki is also available for those who don't like Japanese whisky! Breakfast had everything you could want, and with free tea and coffee all day—a welcome refreshment not always provided by other hotels. I only have good things to say about the Viseu Ryokan—the Japanese heart of Viseu that's truly one of the most comfortable places I've ever stayed.

All was excellent.

Our stay at Viseu Ryokan could not have been better! It is a unique, serene experience, in a very clean, modern, small hotel, installed in a historic building. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and quick to respond with help. We took advantage of the spa experience and with rainy days it was a treat to take a sauna or schedule a massage, in between walks through the historic center of Viseu. Breakfast was delicious, and tea is readily available. We grew to feel at home at the hotel and in Viseu.

Where do I star?!?! This has been the BEST experience I've ever had staying at an accommodation!! The welcoming was exceptional! from the introduction to what the concept of the accommodation is ,to relaxing by the patio sipping away on a nice warm cup of tea, after been shown our room. The idea of being able to walk around in kimonos is just genius, it gives you a sense of relaxation as you dont need to be worried about getting all dressed up to leave the room for breakfast or to go and enjoy the spa facilities. The Staff at Ryoken are extremely friendly ,helpful and most importantly made us feel at home!! I will definitely be going back and have advised all friends and family that this is a place worthy of placing on their wish list !!!

The toilet cleaning system was not working. We were in offered to change rooms as a solution, but we were already settled there so decided to just stay there. Nevertheless, would have been good to check the systems before. The spa area was private, but the allocated time per room was for a maximum of 30 min. We find this period a bit too short because if you use the sauna+hot tub+cold shower then you have to rush. There were not many rooms so I think it would be possible to give at least 45 min per room.

The location is fantastic and the staff was super friendly. It really pits effort into give the feeling of an authentic Ryokan

Showers were losing their water water seal allowing sewer gas to enter the rooms. This needs management's attention Room was advertised as a suite. The size was very small.
