Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SyriaWhat I didn't like was that the host knew I was Arab. He started asking very strange questions and started checking if I was in Romania. He treated me with racism because I am an Arab, so I wrote this review in order to treat Arabs in a good way next time.
The place was good, cheap and clean, I loved it

United Kingdom- They moved my things to another room when I was out. Please ask first. I was charging something that wasn't charged when I needed it. - I was made to move rooms to make way for people who never came. - It's not a social hostel if that's what you're looking for. - Top bunks are difficult to get into.
- The location is the best part: right in the old town. - Wifi is fast - Beds are comfy - Never had to wait for a toilet or shower - Early check in

AustraliaUnfortunately there is no reception desk so there was no human presence at the hostel. There were problems with the light censors in bathroom and showers, kind of dangerous if showering at night and light turns off!
Location was great and was a very clean and quiet place, beds were comfortable and easy check in and check out process

United KingdomAircon control wasn’t in the room so couldn’t use it, window was open instead and there was a net but the temperature dip at night meant I went to bed sweating from heat and woke up cold in the middle of the night). Cold showers on the arrival day, bins not emptied enough (a larger one maybe would resolve this best). I booked two nights but only stayed only one and I understand the showers were sorted and duvets provided from the second night which would have made it more comfortable.
Location is great, keypad access felt safe and lockers are provided with a key so no need for padlocks. Communicates via WhatsApp due to no reception but all easy and friendly. Free coffee was nice and rules made the property seem cleaner / no shoes inside is a good idea (though providing slippers might be nice as not everyone has indoor shoes when travelling hostels). Space was small but seemed well taken care of - any sign of roaches outside was them dead so I think the whole building is working towards fighting them!

RomaniaThis is not a hostel - is basically an Airbnb kind of place (a 2 room apartment) which brings more revenue if rented as a hostel. There is no reception - you get a code key and you are on your own (with other people that are sharing the same apartment). You are a bit depending that the other travellers are decent people - if they are not you still need to deal with them by yourself - as again there is nobody there. Same goes for the neighbours (as this is an apartment building). The entrance in the building is shady, smelly and dark at nights - for the extra money the owner does (as not renting to a regular person or Airbnb - but as hostel) COULD voluntary, from his own money put light on the stairs. There is no space to really hang around (like a living room) - there is a space in the sleeping room but that it not a space for chilling- as people sleep and rest at different times in the exact same room. Also - there is soo much "responsibility" put on the travellers - remove the bed sheets, put that there, do that, don't that, etc.....which are meant just to make the life of the owner easier (and he works less and gets more money). It will be nice to have some recycling system in place.
The place is in the city centre and close to everything you want to see ; it is clean and you have lockers on the site; the beds are very comfy and you have privacy (as curtains to the bed) if you want so. The check-out is quite generous late.

United KingdomThe beds sheets could be replaced more frequently as they appear to be old even if they are clean. The rooms can be quiet stuffy at night with no air conditioning. The doors need to be oiled at the hinges so that they are less loud when opening. People staying here should be aware that there is no staff at the hostel. I arrived at 2pm but waited 45min before the host remembered to send the code. There is no formal reception area at all. All instructions are provided via mobile communication. There is no area for guests to actually meet apart from the bedrooms. This makes the vibe less appealing than other hostels.
The property is generally clean with the hallway and shower area kept tidy. The rooms are spacious and the lockers are a good size.

HungaryBedbugs... I can't overlook it, especially because other guests have mentioned it before. While the host gave a swift reply and assured me about a check, it looks like the whole place must to be examined thoroughly, even if it means being out of business for a while. I was lucky enough to work from home after my visit, still it was literally a rude awakening, and I'm badly bitten all over.
Otherwise nice and tidy, practical, with a youth-friendly and progressive vibe. The host always replied quickly. Easy access and excellent location with the tram, pubs and other institutions a few minutes away. Towel's included.

PolandThe reception closes early at 18:00 and opens late at 10:00. This means that they do not understand the need of travelers who use hostels. This also meant that I could not pay for the night directly, and they asked me to transfer the money to their bank in Romania. Since Romania does not use Euros, I lost about 8 Euros to convert the money and pay some fees involved. So 16 Euros to stay there suddenly became 24 Euros. Anybody who come to stay at this hostel from outside Romania are warned.
Convenient location.

South KoreaIt's not about the situation but the response. He was out of town so came in afternoon of next day to check. Up to this is understandable. They didnt even offer laundry service let alone offer a full refund. And I specifically asked them. Didn't even offer to look for a laundromat or give me a ride. He just kept mentioning some iron in the corner. I googled and explained to them about bed bugs. Didn't seem to research on their own at all. When finally found a bed bug after disbelief and I reacted. He said it's not going to kill you. I had to go look for laundromat on top of going to pcr test center on checkout day. I had to go look for and buy longer pants and top so i can cover the bites instead of relaxing on my vacation. It is so itchy I can't and couldn't do anything also I couldn't get any sleep. My plans for Greece as next destination is also ruined because of welts everywhere. I couldn't go to another hostel since my clothes were not laundered and it was late and I slept in their office the last night. And so he says I should get the last night refunded since I didn't stay in the hostel the last night.
