Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThis hotel was comfortable and clean, exactly what we needed for a quick day trip in the desert. I did read all the reviews and agree that this hotel is slightly outdated, but you need to consider the context here: There are only four hotels in the whole area and this is a very small town in the middle of the Sahara desert. Considering all of these facts, I would say that this hotel serves the purpose for exactly what we needed: a clean, comfortable and safe stay for us to visit the Sahara desert the next day. It is unfair to hold a hotel in this area of Tunisia to the same standard, that you would hold another hotel in a western country. The staff was also very friendly. In addition, please keep in mind the cost of the room also includes breakfast and a 5-course dinner. There was ample parking for our car when we arrived. Pool was beautiful.

United StatesDespite several pre-visit discussions about my 15 year old son needing an adjacent room to ours that was not honored by the hotel. Luckily they were able to get him close but not adjacent to. The carpets in the hallways was extremely worn with holes and stains. Often times there was a sewage smell in the hallway by our rooms. My husband would remedy that by opening the doors at opposite ends of the hallways.
The staff was AMAZING! The dining staff were BEYOND accommodating, so gracious, made us feel like their personal guests! The gentleman that kept our rooms so wonderfully clean…. there are no words to adequately describe how PHENOMENAL he was!!!!! The location is fantastic! Right around the corner from my in-laws!!!

United KingdomThe pool wasn’t operative at the time of our visit and there were a few issues with plumbing and lighting but we think thus was just due to the first season since COVID not quite started yet. Plumbing and lighting were resolved quickly by staff.
Very spacious hotel with lots of places to relax and a very comfortable and inviting bar. Room was pleasant and spacious. If you stay here make sure you visit the hammam and have a massage - they are very very good here. Staff all very helpful and chatty.

ItalyThe hotel is a real oasi in the desert: the building is huge, with a great pool and our room had a balcony. Everyone from the staff was kind and helpful: we had the chance to book a tour with the camel in the desert directly from the reception (for a very reasonable price, 15€). Breakfast and dinner were included: dinner was not exceptional, but you have a lot of choice (there’s even a guy who makes pizza). Breakfast was great, especially the crepes. Everything was really clean, they change towels and make the bed everyday. Very good value for money.

GermanyWe stayed one night at our travel at Douz and had been very much looking forward to the pool (main reason we booked this hotel) due to the high temperatures but unfortunately there was only a large construction area in the whole backyard of the hotel - we had been really disappointed! And the only statement of the hotel was: "it is closed and will open next week", no real excuse nor some compensation. And, if you look at the construction site and the speed of working it will no way open very soon!
The staff was mostly quite friendly and attentive, especially some of the buffet waiters. Not much guests around but the dinner and breakfast buffet were ok. However, some more selection would have been better.

United StatesThe hotel is a bit dated and the bathroom had several issues like a sink that leaked and a shower head that was broken and sprayed water all over the bathroom.
Sahara Douz was as expected. There are not many hotel options in the area and none that are luxury for what most would consider luxury, however I would say Sahara Douz did a great job of ensuring we were comfortable. We only stayed one night and the staff is what made the stay great.
