How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Place has a vibe, great personel. I was in Hualian for 2 days in 2 different places, but if I knew this place before then I would definitely be staying here. Thanks and keep up the good job!

Sometimes a bit of a wait for bathrooms
Good location, very friendly vibe, cozy common area, free toast/tea/coffee whenever u want. Grocery store next door. Filtered water provided. Super close to train station and 10 min walk to bus for Taroko

Everything was good!
When I arrived in Lazy House I directly felt at home. The common area is nice, the music fits, the people are chill and the hostel dog always wants to cuddle. Other plus: the owner of the hostel plays the piano every night. And she helped me with planning everything for my stay in Hualien. Which trails to do in the national park, where to rent a scooter and as well as bike for my trip along the east coast.

Only one bathroom and the bedroom and beds were just okay.
Nice chill out spaces and friendly staff. Decent kitchen with free tea and communal fridge.

Was far from town centre.
Decent homestyle hostel very close to the station. Rooms clean and spacious. The only downside was the lack of atmosphere, it was deathly quiet over Xmas, and interaction with staff, which is quite typical in hostels in Taiwan.

Facilities could have been more up to date. The room was located close to the street, so you could hear all the cars and motorbikes passing by as there was little noise isolation, so I had to get earplugs for this reason. It was really like all the windows were open, even though they were firmly closed.
Really nice vibe and good place downstairs to relax and meet new people Clean and comfy rooms overall. People coming here seem very nice in general. Location was also great. The host is very kind, very attentive and really makes you feel welcome.

Such a soft mattresses.
The guy at the hostel was very nice and helpful. The room was really big compare to taiwanese hostel standards, clean and nicely decorated.

Cheapest hostel i’ve stayed at in Taiwan during my backpacking trip in Taiwan. According to the owner she actually dropped the price because there was a typhoon coming during the time i stayed, so people going around the island could have a cheap place to rest before the typhoon is gone. Super close to the train station and many places to eat by walking distance around the property.

You can feel the other persons moving at the Bunk beds.

I think they only thing that would improve the stay would be more toilet and shower facilities on each floor (there's only one), but it's not a problem to simply go to one of the other floors and use those, so it's not really a negative at all.
The room was great and the place itself was very welcoming. The food that they serve at the in-hostel restaurant was mind-blowing. Seriously, it deserves the 4.9 rating on Google without question. It is less than a 3-minute walk from the station, but it is pretty far from the city centre if you're looking for something near all the sights. That said, I would definitely stay there again.

Lovely hostel with super friendly owner and the best hostel pets, Obama the dog and Princess the cat! Great location in Hualien with the train station, plenty food options and bicycle rentals close by.
