Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomAfter eating breakfast on arrival, I returned to my room and the lock wasn't on the door and the door was closed. When I entered the room, one of the staff was there supposedly bringing a blanket. After he left, I found that my small bag had been gone through but there was nothing missing. After that, I used my own lock. WiFi signal in the room was too weak, so had to use WiFi in the bar area.
Breakfast was good and they let me have breakfast the day I arrived as I arrived early. However there may have been a motive for this, see below.

NetherlandsAna the receptionist is very friendly and nice! She help me in going around the area and even assisted me to look for agent for my Safaru Tour. I stayed here in this hotel and decided to stay after my short trip to Kenya. Bed is good enough. Shared bathroom. No Air-conditioning but the room is well ventilated. Breakfast was basic with instant coffee available. View from the rooftop where the dining is located was superb! Supermarket and restaurants are available in the area.

CanadaIt’s a bit loud at night but that was expected since it’s on the main road. Fine with earplugs. Breakfast is basic but ok.
We had a twin room with windows and it was small but perfect for our needs. The rooms without windows may feel a bit like a closet. Nice, clean bathrooms with hot water. Rooftop restaurant/bar is nice and an interesting view over the busy main road.

The facility was clean and newly painted. The upstairs patio was a pleasant to have a simple breakfast in the morning. Staff went out of their way to be helpful. Touts around to sell you a budget safari or tour. Place to store luggage.

IndiaI had a double bed and it was alright. Peeped into the single bed room and it's fairly small. While this is a budget hotel you should just know what you're getting. It is not a negative, as such.
It's cheap and you get what you pay for. In the sense it's a bed in a room with a fan. Don't expect a lot of space in your room. There are common bathrooms outside. I had stayed there just for a night before the safari and didnt visit arusha. The staff are helpful and the wifi works.

SpainI had a room with no outside window, the only ones were facing the corridor so if someone goes around it could get quite noisy.
It's a good value for money, close to the city center and good breakfast included.

Great price, very central location, close to markets and to a big supermarket. There is a nice rooftop where to chill and have a meal (though the prices are a bit high). Im afraid there are some bugs in the big cushions of the rooftop as I had a lot of bites (and they were not from mosquitos nor my mattress). The breakfast is great. Staff is very kind, too. Bathrooms have toilet paper and soap and there is hot water. Very good value for money.

CanadaThe staff couldn't really answers to our question about bus schedules to go to Dar. Each time we were asking a question at the reception (like for the bus schedules)they were sending us to a guy but we didn’t need someone to walk us to the bus station and then ask us for money. It is a weird way to “help” customers… We didn’t know if the guy was working for the hostel or not.
They made us choose our room when we arrive! You have what you’re paying for. There is also hot water.

GermanyArusha Backpackers is a very nice hostel. We stayed there before and after the safari for 3 nights in total. It's not a luxury hotel but for the price you pay you get all you need. The breakfast is a little buffet with bread, spread, cornflakes, dates and watermelon as well as coffee and different kind of teas. The washrooms are clean and the showers have hot water. The rooms are a little small but clean and the beds are comfortable. They have a big terrace on the roof where you can buy drinks. The staff is very very friendly. The location is perfect if you want to explore Arusha or go on safari. They have a big luggage room where you can leave your bags if you go on safari. All in all this is a very good Hostel and I would recommend to stay there.
