Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyOur dream wedding at the dream location We have chosen this hotel as a wedding destination and never regret that. Preparing for the wedding we always had very good contact with all the teams from the hotel: Front Office (thanks to Belinda and Lilian)/ Booking Dpt., Accounts Dpt. Planning the wedding together with Lilian was super convenient! We don't have enough words to describe how happy we are about our wedding weekend and the incredible support we were given from the stuff ot the Hotel Karafuu Zanzibar. We can strongly recommend having a wedding at Karafuu and we are already planning for a future anniversary party. Some reasons for that.... - Our wedding planner Lilian with her co-workers really tried everything in their power to help us have the best possible wedding event. We really loved our wedding ceremony on the beach! Thanks to our very kind witnesses Lilian and Mosquito! - The perfect tropical beach lined by palm trees is spacious and nice for walking. During the low tide you can reach the sea via a jetty/path and go for a swim or you can get a sand Bank via boat. - The hotel area is amazing, very spacious, with pools, several restaurants and surroundings. We booked a bungalow on the beach and felt here like being in Paradise! - Our favorite restaurant is Le Grand Bleu with breathtaking ocean view! Special thanks for the stuff - we really enjoyed every meal & communication here! We also loved to spend our time at Zanzi bar, even red colobus come around ;) - There is a lovely beach shop at resort. and a very good jewellery boutique. The prizes are ok and the saleswomen is very friendly and well qualified.

FranceLights are not working in the balcony Secondary pool is not maintained even if it's open and poeple are swimming in Road noise when you are at the room (415) Only one light is working in the bathroom No sight breaking or screens to cover the bathroom window Wifi quality is awful Room decoration is old and cheap Can't reach reception by calling 5000 It's like there is the villas front sea clients and the others are second grade clients Asked them to check in at 12 instead 2pm. They accepted (with booking proof) and when there we waited for 2 hours and get the room at 2pm (no logic) We insisted and they changed our room to the number 60. They really resisted before changing. Then one night we had a lot of mosquitos in the room. We took the phone and called 5000. Guess what? No one responded (as usual) So I walked to the reception and asked asked for a mosquito spray. Guess what? No one has come. As a result my wife and I have been bitten many times during our sleep. For restaurants and bar, you pay the prices of a Hilton in Nungwi but you get the quality of a 3 stars hotel. This is just a brief of what we got in a 5 stars hotel and paying 500$ for 3 nights. To the administration : you're doing it wrong Room number : 415 from 6 to 9/2/2022 changed to room 60. Karafuu : Please go and check the service in a 5* hotel next to you (Le Mersenne for example) you will spot the difference. It's not question of money but service and reputation and making clients feeling like home. You will never see me again. Bisous
The view from the main pool is great The sea is close and beautiful in the afternoon when high tide The employees are great and helpful except the ones working at reception The nature is preserved Breakfast buffet is good but nothing special

NetherlandsWe spend two days and one night without air conditioning in 30 degrees! After we've asked them for 4 times to solve problem, we finally got another room with airco for our last night. Electricity problems at the hotel caused 3 of our iPhone chargers to be broken. We got no compensation whatsoever. They told us to we should write our problems on a blank white paper and they would get back to us, which seemed like they were trying to get rid of us at the reception. After several contact attempts we still haven't heard anything?! Finally, they charge 30 dollars for lunch and 35 dollars for dinner per person, while the food at this hotel is the worst I've tasted in years. We have eaten at several other spots in the region and also at another hotel in Zanzibar which we have enjoyed a lot. The food at this hotel is a shame and it's embarrassing that they ask this amount of money for the food.
Nice private beach, beautiful trees and a great view from hotel. Generally kind people that work at the hotel.

AustraliaNo complaints.
We loved our stay at Karafuu. Our room was clean, spacious and the resort offers daily cleaning. We loved the beach it is located on (Pingwe) because it is quiet, perfect for long walks, and the water is calm. The best part is the resort offers access to the lagoon from the shore for swimming, so you can swim anytime of day, no matter the tides. The resort has a wide range of facilities and entertainment options. It has an amazing spa, gym and several pools and restaurants to choose from. There are daily activities such as exercise classes, dance performances, visits to the Masai village and movie nights on the beach. By far the standout was the amazing staff. We rarely have experienced such friendly and helpful staff. We would especially like to thank Alma for her ability immediately answer all of our queries. She was excellent and made our trip really special. We would also like to thank our waiter Freddy, who was in a class of his own, with a never fading smile and great sense of humour. We loved Karafuu and will be back.

MoroccoWe got a warm welcome when we arrived while we waited for the room to be ready as we were early they allowed us have breakfast for free. They upgraded our room which was decorated with flowers around the door and petals as we walked into the room. it was just perfect! The seafood platter was the best me and my fiancé had it everyday from the grand bleu restaurant. it was a peaceful and relaxing environment around the hotel just what we needed.

United KingdomThe wifi was not working in our room, we only had connection in the main restaurant / reception area.
We had an incredible time at Karafuu Beach Resort and Spa. The location of the hotel is absolutely unique and it was beautiful to observe the sea and tides which are integral part of Island life. The atmosphere was very private and we felt that have visited the Real part of wild Zanzibar. The hotel is very beautifully kept. Garden surrounding the bungalows is well kept and made us feel like we are on a tropical paradise holiday. ( which is not always the case with hotels in Zanzibar!) Reception , bar and main restaurant area was very impressive. The view from the main parts of the hotel as well as spa is breath taking, private beach belonging to the hotel one of the most beautiful we have ever seen. The food was very good, we especially loved the dinner in Maasai village. The main pool was as well very well kept, perfect temperature and has a lovely bar serving beautiful drinks. We also loved the fact that the hotel has its own garden and ingredients are used in the kitchen, thank you for amazing garden tour! Big thank you to the whole spa team who made me feel very pampered, had incredible face and full body massage. Incredible thank you to Mohamed from Wimbi diving centre who organised a fishing trip for my partner and an incredible Safari blue for both of us, with the biggest smile always on his face! The bungalow was very tidy, nice and spacious bedroom and a beautiful terrace with an incredible sea view, special plus for the very comfortable terrace lounge chairs. Last but not least, the biggest thank you to all members of staff at the reception, restaurants, bar and pool. Everyone was so welcoming, kind and professional. We could have not asked for more.
