Good quiet place for independent travelers
    • Leisure trip
    • Solo traveller
    • Double Room with Balcony
    • Stayed 19 nights

In the beginning it was rather stressful for me. I had no kettle to boil the water for tea andd coffee in the room. Juma, the owner, gave me no permission to use the kitchen. I had to ask to boil the water for tea and coffee every time. And sometimes there was no one in the property, so I was without the hot water. Later, as I communicated this situation to Juma and expressed my irritation with it. He found the electric kettle. And also provided me with 2 19-liter bottles of water for 5000 TZS each. It was exactly what I needed. I lacked privacy a little because the curtains in the room are semi-transparent and you can see what's going on inside. Nobody was looking inside of course. But still it was harder to relax for me. Also you can hear all the sound outside and on the second floor very well. When there was a guest on the second floor I could hear every word she said on the phone. Most of the time I was alone. Most of the time there was nobody on the second floor as the high season was over.

I stayed here for 3 weeks. The place is a bit away from the touristy spots. But you can walk to them within 20-25 mins. It is quiet. Beautiful view from the 2nd floor terrace. Nice plants in the yard. The room is a good size with comfortable bed. The bathroom with the shower is big. When there's power outage you will only have the light in the room as it works from solar panels. There will be no electricity in the power sockets, so you won't be able to charge your electronics or use the kettle. Generally, I liked this place. And I'm glad we managed to find consent with Juma, the owner. Thank you, Juma! I recommend to come here if you're an independent traveler. And you're not looking for noisy touristy places. If you love nature and calm - you might like the place. The price/quality for Zanzibar is good to stay here! I would return again. And I will recommend it to my friends and acquaintances who will come to Zanzibar.

A little bit hot although the fan and windows make a huge difference, wifi a little bit slow, harder to walk out at night after the sunset as a solo traveller, but otherwise the location is more than ideal as it is removed from the busy areas of Nungwi.

Juma is a wonderful host. Any questions you have about the island, any tours you want to organize, places to eat and swim, all very helpful and with a great sense of humour. The top room has incredible views, and the breakfast is fantastic.

I (60 years old) lived in the guesthouse for 36 days. I felt very comfortable in the apartment with a sea view. The equipment is simple and sustainable. Juma and Santos were very hospitable, helpful and supported me on my activities across the island. The team is very well organized and friendly. Furthermore, I was provided with reliable motorcycle taxis, tours or on my own with contacts, advice and support, even when I was sick. This clean, cozy house with a beautiful garden, warm hosts, a friendly team and a natural, beautiful and typical ambience is recommended! Flashlight and a bit of leisure is required. It's a 20 minute rocky path through the village to the beautiful beach. However, always very, very entertaining. You can experience a lot here too. I would love to come back and can recommend the accommodation! "IT IS THE EYE WHICH HAS TRAVELLED THAT IS CLEVER"

It was a challenge sometimes with the sounds at night - animals, music and other. When I experienced a challenge at the room e.g. with water not running, Santosh and Juma quickly followed up and fixed the problem. They were really helpful.

I felt at home in the beautifully styled African home - and I really enjoyed the hospitality from the family. They are friendly and caring. The view from my place was stunning - I watched the sunset from there several times. I was volunteer in School of Hope which was just a few minutes away. I liked to live in the village close to the locals and still have the comfort of my own place with bathroom. I have already booked my next stay there.

The accommodation is a beautiful little paradise perfect for relaxing. It is located about 10 minutes from the beach in a small village full of friendly people. In the kilimani house there are three large rooms which were all designed with love. Overall there is a cozy atmosphere that allows you to relax. It is easy to get into conversations with other guests, to walk to the tourist part of the beach but also reach the quieter part of the beach. You can find Local food on the main road but also reach the touristic restaurants by walk. The host family is super welcoming and can provide you with food and information. They know about tours, restaurants and everything else worth knowing. They also provide very tasty fresh breakfast in the accommodation itself on request. I planned to spend 2-3 days in Nungwi and ended up staying at kilimani house for 5 days, because I felt so comfortable at the house and the beach. I can fully recommend Nungwi in kilimani House.

As shops are at least 10 mins away, it would be great if they started to sell water on site. Woke up twice for breakfast at 7am and no one was around so ate in town. Room is a little dark during the day, could do with extra lighting.

They have solar panels to combat the frequent power outages of Tanzania. Quiet and peaceful in Nungwi. Tucked just far enough away from the chaos but not too far to be an effort. Really pleasant staff. Fan over the bed, pointing on you. needed in the heat!

    Nothing I can think of.

I had a great stay at Santos place. She was very friendly. Wifi is super fast, the best I had in Tanzania. It is quiet during the night. Mattress was good on the hard side. Good water pressure for shower. It is a 10-15 min walk to the beach on the north and probably 20-25 mins to the beach towards the west.

Amazing guesthouse in the middle of the local village, 10 minutes walking from the tourist area, with beautiful and clean rooms. The first floor room has excellent views and you can relax on the balcony like a boss, can't miss that! Santos is a real top host, super helpful, and she makes the best breakfast on the island, by far! We'll definitely come back next time we're on the island, this place is a must!

The accomodation is stunning! The room was very spacious and unique, I haven't seen such accomodation before. The location was close to the beach, to the bus Station and it was pretty quite. Santos are really really friendly and helpful. I would 100% recommend and I would go back anytime.

A bit higher water pressure in the shower and toilet would definitely improve the experience. Other than that, absolutely no complains.

Great location. Very friendly people. I could relax and visit the extraordinary beaches of Zanzibar. Nothing luxurious, but exactly what is promised in the listing. Definitely would return.

Absolutely nothing to complain about. Important notes though for other travellers, roads are pretty rough once in town, wouldn't recommend a small car, the second entrance is not really passable even with a small 4x4 so go in the first if you're travelling in a rental, parking is limited to 1 guest vehicle so check in advance, just in case and be cognisant of the fact that you're staying in the local village, be respectful (don't blare your rock n roll - the guests downstairs?) and drive carefully on their roads - there are children, bicycles etc. so be aware.

Beautiful garden, large spacious rooms, beautiful view, inside the community, lovely and helpful hosts. 10 minute walk to the beach.

Owners live there with baby. Pretty gated area on rural backroad 15 mins from town. Not so private
    • Leisure trip
    • Solo traveller
    • Double Room with Private Bathroom
    • Stayed 3 nights

The rooms are screened-in with no walls so you can hear everything from outside.. sometimes the baby who lives there is crying, music is playing, the dog is barking, or another guest is talking loudly in their room. You have to keep the curtains open at night so the breeze can get through, so there is not much privacy. It is somewhat tough to walk through the rural area from the main road to get there. There is no kitchen. Restaurants on the main road are about a 15-minute walk (I wouldn't do that walk through the rural area in the dark alone so ate dinner around 5:30 every night).

The owners are kind and welcoming. Their dog is very sweet. The area is gated, it's a comfy garden area with seashells and plants around. The bed is large and comfortable. The bedroom, bathroom, and private patio are spacious and nice.
