Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

TanzaniaThere were power cuts island wide (not their fault) so we wish we would have brought a power bank
The location is great in a quiet area directly on the beach. They have numerous beach chairs with small shade umbrellas with the ocean a stones throw away. The staff were very friendly while also allowing us to have our privacy. We had a basic double room and the facilities were totally adequate with a desk, air conditioning, ceiling fan, ample closet space, and we were lucky to have an extra bed in our room that served as a couch. The bathroom is an open design wrapping around the back of the main room. The breakfast was ample and excellent with fresh coffee and small presses available, freshly squeezed juice, ample fruits, an egg making station, and other pastries, toasts and cereals. The lunches were fine but we really enjoyed the dinners, especially the catch of the day (which was fresh and rotated) and the seafood platter .

DenmarkThe property is placed right on the beach. The entire settings of the property is looking like something from a movie we absolutely loved the room, beach, bar, and pool area. On top of that the property has an amazing chef. We had most (if not all) of our meals at the property, and we didn’t try anything that was anything less than great. Even with dietary restrictions the chef managed to make everything with alternatives, without it feeling like an alternative. Talking about the staff - we have never experienced staff this helpful, friendly, and smiling. There was nothing that they couldn’t make it happen. Can only give our warmest recommendations for everyone wanting to enjoy Zanzibar.

South AfricaThe breakfast wasn't great - not much selection; buffet wasn't anything to write home about and instant coffee was supplied. I don't think it's a case of the kitchen quality being poor, because the À la carte (lunch and dinner) menu was a lot better.
Direct access to the beach from my room. Splendid!

Czech RepublicI have nothing to write.
Beautiful and quiet resort with multiple bungalows away from the village. Which are right on the beach with a lot of umbrellas. Excellent breakfast and even better time spent at dinners. The staff was very nice and very helpful. I felt safe. The whole resort was cleaned every morning, including the lovely pool. Excellent Wi-fi reception. One of the best resorts I have visited in Zanzibar.

Mchanga was wonderful! So many things we liked: Low key, laid back and fabulously relaxing. Friendly, attentive, approachable staff. Great chef, with nice quality meals - the daily changing 3 course dinner special was delicious! Great location right on the beach. Traditional huts, basically, but comfortably furnished. Great traditional thatched roofs. Well maintained property on the sand - regularly raked, swept and cared for. Lovely, well maintained pool Loved spending 6 days in barefeet - not essential, but easily do-able :) Great beach walks and nearby activities. Easy to do as much or little as we liked.

SloveniaThe location is quite remote with not many restaurants nearby but we knew this so it did not bother us. We booked a transfer at the hotel (from the airport) but the taxi never showed up so we were forced to find an alternative at 5 am.
Mchanga is an excellent option and would recommend it to everyone looking to spend their holidays not in a crowded big hotel. We really enjoyed the quietness of the place and the beautiful beach. The pool as well was much loved by our kids :) The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. Every afternoon they prepared us some afternoon snacks for free. The food is excellent! We spent there 5 nights and felt like at home. Would definitely come back!

GermanyNothing. Can really recommend this hotel!
I have been a week in Mchanga Zanzibar and this hotel is truely amazing! There is this powder white and soft Zanzibar sand between your toes at the whole area giving you the beach feeling you are looking for! <3 The breakfast is really good and you may select from a broad variety of different food. Also they prepare fresh eggs of your choice and have tiny french presses for you, so you can make your own french press coffee at your table! The beach was clear and the area is really secure. I was walking around the beach every night without feeling unsave even once. The staff is also truely amazing and helpful! I forgot my GoPro in the hotel room and they managed to send it to me to Daressalam within one single day, so I could retrieve the data and had my device back for the return flight. Thanks again! When I ever come back to this place, I will book Mchanga again. :-)

ArgentinaPeople at the beach won't stop trying to sell things, and it is not recommended by locals to go around at night throughout the surroundings.
The place is simply outstanding due to the facilities, the personnel, the bar, the food, basically everything if you are looking for a very relaxed time in Zanzibar. It is very beautiful and peaceful as it is in the pictures as well as safe. Highly recommended for a chilled trip, and it was an extremely positive experience to us.
