Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GhanaEverything, from hotel pickup to breakfast and drop off, at Shimbwe Meadows you are not a guest but a family member, Beatus has an exceptional human relations, and Jane will bother you positively to make sure your belly action is not left unchecked. If you need a site of mount Kilimanjaro, this is the best location. I enjoyed my stay. I left my wallet at the property and Beatus was so kind to drive back to deliver. This was purely a home to stay, green environment and get some thick clothes it gets cold

Shimbwe Meadows Guest House is an incredible place to stay in Moshi. It's about 1.5 hours away from Kilimanjaro International Airport. The owners and staff are so nice, welcoming, accommodating, and knowledgeable. They offer a ton of half day/day trips, so you can stay busy with new things to do every day, even if you're not climbing the mountain. I definitely recommend visiting Materuni Waterfall! If you are climbing the mountain, Victor (owner) is a very experienced guide. The food was delicious, the room was clean and spacious, and it had everything I needed except for a plug I could use, but that was solved very quickly by Beatus (owner). My two night stay here was a highlight of my three week trip in central Africa. I will most definitely be staying again when I visit Tanzania next time. I highly recommend staying here!

United StatesRolling power outages throughout Tanzania can't be avoided, sometimes inconvenient but the guesthouse did everything they could to support their guests!
The perfect start on our trip to Africa! The guesthouse staff were extraordinary, very helpful, provided tour guides for a variety of trips, bonfires and fabulous meals. Very warm and accommodating staff. The environment is spectacular. A view of kilimanjaro, baobab trees on the horizon and lush tropical fruit trees surrounding the guesthouse. The guesthouse is set in the small village of Shimbwe where we were able to experience a slice of a small village life A great, quiet, fascinating start for our trip in africa!

Beautiful, quiet location with magnificent views of Kilimanjaro. The staff are exceptional - knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. We were told we arrived as guests and left as family and that is exactly what it felt like. Beautiful walk to the waterfall and a visit to the hot springs. Transfers were arranged. Nothing seemed like too much trouble. The food is exceptional. Exactly the right sized portions, varied and delicious. The room was clean and spacious and set amongst the banana plantations, and beautiful trees and vegetation. Justin provided loads of interesting information on our guided walk. The entire team were just exceptional, helpful and friendly. Highly recommended and would definitely stay again.

Germanynothing, all good
Victor, Honest, Justin and the rest of the crew of Shimbwe Meadows Guest House were fantastic. My brother and I came here to explore the area around Kilimanjaro and we were not disappointed. Everything worked fine from the Airport Pickup till our tours we have booked (Hot Springs, Materuni Waterfalls and Mandara Huts). Also the Guest House was amazing. Its a simple accomodation but filled with love and hospitality. The food was good, the roof terrasse amazing for sunsets (with a bitof luck yu can see the Shy lady - Mt Kilimanjaro) and the bonfire in the evening was a dream....we really enjoyed our 3 nights there and can definitely recommend it. Well done dear Shimbwe Meadows Guest House Team...keep up your good attitude...loved it. BTW: For internet lovers - WLAN is not all the time available, especially when electricity is gone, but I didn't miss the Internet all.

AustraliaAt the time of our stay they were working on improving water pressure, so I’m sure this will be fixed soon. Also we found the price of the meals on the expensive side based on previous experience in Tanzanian homestays (near Arusha).
Beautiful stay nestled on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. There is lots to do around whether you opt for the tours the property is offering or just going for a walk on your own (we did that). The room was large and clean. The views of Mount Kilimanjaro were beautiful.

United KingdomWe loved our time here but if you are looking for night life this is not the place - it is a few miles drive down to Moshi.
This is a truly delightful guest house in the chagga gardens on the base of Kilimanjaro. The staff are super friendly and Victor is an inspiring person both in his ambition for the village and for the guest house that he has built up in very difficult times. We learnt so much from him about the local The view from our room and the two balconies look out towards mount Kilimanjaro. It is super clean, the shower is good and the food is nice and accommodates vegetarians. The local area seems very safe and good for walking or mountain biking. We had the nicest day out at the chemka springs with the family and, though we are an older English couple, we felt so welcome and looked after. The guest house can organise safari tours and visits to the local sites.

CanadaAt present, everything must be paid in cash which makes it necessary to plan your activities in advance as the nearest atm is located in Moshi (an expensive trip from the guesthouse). The airport transfer was reasonably priced given the distance (about 1.5 hours) but was difficult to locate on arrival at the airport.
The location is stunning if you'd like to enjoy some peace and quiet. It was also much cooler at this altitude, which was a lovely break from the safari heat. My single room was large with a comfortable bed and a lovely view of kilimanjaro from the windows that lined two walls. There were a number of tours and activities offered by the guesthouse. I particularly recommend Materuni Waterfall as it is so close to the property and can be done entirely on foot. The included breakfast was generous (fruit, eggs, toast, pancake, smoothie), delicious, and served on a stunning balcony with an unparalled view of Kili.. Lunch and dinner were not included but were very tasty.

The location is remote, but well worth the bumpy ride to get there. Food was excellent and all the staff were very friendly and welcoming. NetherlandsVictor and his family make you very welcome. The village of Shimwbe looks out onto the Kilimanjaro. Here live the chaga tribe. We made a trip to the materuni waterfall which was a beautiful and interesting round trip of 4 hours. And our guide from the guesthouse was very informative and was considerate of everybody’s abilities. We had a great time staying here and will surely come back to chill out and do some more trips around the foothills of Kilimanjaro. And also visit the friendly villages around with many small banana and coffee farmers. We thank you all for a very pleasant and rememberable stay!
