Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomAs you would expect with a 1920’s building, electric points in the rooms are minimal and no points near the bed for phone chargers, but we managed. Weekend at the hotel was peaceful but road noise during a weekday is intrusive.
Enjoyed the 1920’s feel, excellent staff, breakfast buffet very good choices, evening menus offered a wide choice. Shower in room 124 was lovely and hot and bed comfortable.

GermanyOnly cold water in the shower. Reception said I must let it run for 5-6 minutes and it would get warm. This was not only water waste but it also did not work - water stayed cold. It is noisy in the evening and night.
Staff is very supportive and friendly. Airport pickup was on time and I felt safe. Breakfast is very nice. I like the rooms, furniture is nice, beds are comfortable.

South AfricaOld TV’s with few channels and the plumbing is really not up to scratch., for both myself and my colleague’s room. Room 107 however, was great!
In the Centre of Kampala and very accessible but the standard has dropped a few notches since my last stay in 2018.

United StatesThe towels are clean but could use an overhaul. Depending on the room one gets, it can be noisy especially in the weekend when there is activity at the Sheraton Hotel across the road, otherwise the hotel itself is quiet,
Location is great. One can walk anywhere. It is very safe. Breakfast is good. Caters for all creeds. But there is room for improvement. The rooms are clean and spacious for a 100 year old hotel.

GermanyMake sure to not book the apartment that is listed as the cheapest option on booking. We thought it is just a cheaper room category but it is not. Rather, it is in a different building where you have to walk a bit, it has a kitchen (and the related insects) and is generally very different from the rooms in Speke. Maybe interesting for people staying long term who wish to cook for themselves, but not really for tourists. Luckily we could change to a normal and extremely nice room in the main building for the second night!
The hotel is excellent and the stay was very comfortable. The staff did their best to correct the mistake with the room, although it had been our own fault. The second night in the right room was perfect

United StatesIt’s beginning to be a bit run down and only one bar of soap, two drinking glasses, and no face cloth were made an available for 3 people. Also, we would really appreciate the option of porridge or oatmeal on the breakfast bar.
Room was quiet and staff is the BEST! Every effort was made to accommodate our requests.

South AfricaThe Hotel offers almost the same breakfast on daily basis. There was no variety I would like more variety on cereals. They offer only cornflakes and rice crisps with milk. There was only two or three items of hot items. I do not eat eggs and potatoes (carbohydrate). Cooked veggies once in a while. TV was not functioning for the seven days I stayed there. There were coakroaches in some instances. The wooden floors of the hotel in all the rooms look shabby. They don't get polished.
I liked their bedding. It was nice and soft. There was enough selection on meals for supper. .

United KingdomThe rooms and the pictures didn’t match at all. The bathrooms were not function properly where the toilets were leaking and lots of cockroaches were present. The staff had a tired/exhausted look on their face and it felt odd to be in that vicinity. It would be nice to see some pleasantness. There was also a lot of noise. Constantly some concert or clubs nearby playing loudly. For the price I don’t think it’s worth it as the facilities were mediocre.
The breakfast was good and the bed was pretty comfy. The Khyber restaurant was pretty good and we enjoyed that food. It’s also close by to markets etc so if you need anything it’s easy to access
