How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

They were renovating some rooms which caused a little mess at the entrance. But it should be only one week :)
The room was big and we could easily rent a motorbike at the homestay.

Overall a very good stay! They are currently remodeling a few of the rooms but the one we stayed in was very good considering the price! The host doesn’t speak very well english but will help you as best as he can with everything you need. Just use google translator if it gets too complicated 😊 overall a good stay!

Everything was fine!
Very helpful host, comfortable beds, and good location. The host helped me with info about the bus to the waterfalls, booking a sleeper bus at a good price, and gave me a great pho restaurant rec.

We had a fantastic experience at An Homestay & Hostel. The rooms were tidy and comfortable, and the host was exceptionally helpful. He was quick to respond to our queries and fulfilled all our requirements, such as arranging motorbikes, providing us with valuable advice on sightseeing, getting our laundry done on the same day, and so on. We highly recommend staying here!

Not a 5 star hotel but rooms are neat and clean. Hot shower works good too. Above all, the host was extremely helpful and kind. He upgraded our room for free, gave us lots of suggestions on where to go, and arrranged all our transportations to Bangioc waterfall and Hajiang. It was a great stay. Thank you very much!

Very good value for money, the rooms are clean and comfortable, the host is very kind, helpful and speaks English quite well. the rooms are heated and the water in the bathroom is hot which is very pleasant in winter.

An is a nice guy, really helpful and passionate with what he’s doing, bike’s working so well, he also free upgrade for free us to the better room While waiting for the bus after a long and raining day trip(checked-out already), he let us use the room to get warm with no fee Thank for your kindness, An! An is amazing! He is so friendly and really tries to make the stay as comfortable for you as possible. I arrived at 4am and had a bed in the dorm booked for 2 nights. However, he didn't want to wake up the others in the dorm so gave me a private room since no one had booked it for the night. The next day he said I could stay in the room and all for no extra costs. Leaving my big backpack with him for when I went to the waterfall for one night wasn't a problem at all. He is not fluent in English (what I didn't mind at all) but I think he underestimates his skills a little :D can warmly recommend this lovely homestay.

It was great staying at An Homestay, the host is very helpful and friendly, he arranged tour for us which was perfect and covered all major Cao Bang attractions. Rooms are clean and the property is easily accessible. The bus will drop you right in front of the homestay overall it was a pleasant stay.

The guy who manages the hostel has been amazing and kind, he rented us a very good motorbike for a cheap prize and helped us giving useful information. He also drives us at the bus station and waited for us during the night for the check in because the bus was in delay. Rooms are cozy and clean, price cheap. Thanks!

Quang - the owner will take care of you like you are in a 5* hotel. He runs this hostel with all his heart and willing. I checked in at midnight and he upgraded a cozy nice room for me 🧡. Rooms & bathroom are clean & neat. I definitely stay here next time!!!
