How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Beautiful garden perfect to relax in the nature outside from the city. Clean room. Staff super kind. We rented motorbikes in the structure.

Clean rooms, delicious food, you can rent a car here to go around Cat Ba, and if you go to visit Lan Ha Bay, you can book a tour here, Henry helped us book a tour to go through the forest and visit the bay. Lan Ha is very wonderful,

A wonderful, quiet garden with a lot of flowerss, The people are so friendly and helpful, the food from their restaurant is really good, they helped us to a bus transfers back to Hanoi and organise a day boat tour of Lan ha bay. We hired a scooter to get around from Papillon too which was very convenient. Highly recommended you come here to relaxing

So great homestay & seen mini resort they help us visit the island, visit Lan Ha Bay, the room here is clean, the resort is quiet, close to the mountains, we stayed here and felt very comfortable. , if you come to Cat Ba, you should come here.

It's quiet here, everyone is friendly, the rooms are nice and clean. If you know how to ride a motorbike, should renting a motorbike to get around the island is very convenient.

Bathrooms are a bit on the tight side but very clean.
Papillon is located about 15 minutes from cat ba town in a beautiful lush garden setting. All rooms look over a pool and the karst mountains. The free breakfast was great, and we had dinner too, it was the best squid we've ever had. Henry the manager helped us organise a day boat tour of Lan ha bay, and bus transfers back to Hanoi. We hired a motorbike to get around from Papillon too which was very convenient. Very good value.

There is no indoor space for when the weather is bad, which is a challenge because the rooms are quite small. If they provided cozy blankets for guests we’re certain people would have sat outside and visited in the evenings. Also, while there are scooters for rent it would be great to have access to bicycles for rent.
Everyone here takes great pains to ensure that you’re happy. The food is consistently good and fairly priced. The gardens are beautiful, and you really are surrounded by beautiful butterflies all day. One of the best things about this homestay is how easy it is to meet fellow travellers. The set up for meals really encourages interactions, which is awesome.

A wonderful, quiet garden with a lot of flowers, papillons etc.. The people are so friendly and helpful, the food from their restaurant is really good (try the seafood hotpot!). The room (bungalow) was clean and there was everything what you need! A very very nice stay!

Exeptionally nice and relaxing atmosphere, great staff, made you feel part of family. Away from the big noise but the town easy reachable by scooter that you can hire at the acommodation. We will come again!

Set in beautiful gardens, the bungalows are simple but adequate. We were comfortable and the staff were excellent. Great place for backpackers.

It was a beautiful property with lots of flowers and butterflies. Lovely mountains surrounding the place as well. It was easy to scooter into the town and the hosts were very helpful with booking tours and suggesting things to do.

Small bathroom, smell coming from the pipes, if you don’t have a scooter you need to book a taxi to get to the center (it’s quite far), pricey restaurant.
Very nice surrounding, amazing garden and nice swimming pool. If you want to rest from the noise then it’s a perfect place for that! Nice and helpful host.
