Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsThe street and cockrells are noisy in the morning, but in return you get a bustling neighbourhood. Just make you sure adjust your sleeping pattern to that of the locals.
Great sense of hospitality from the owner. You are staying in a semi-rural area, but all your needs are being taken caren off. I recommend doing the tour from the homestay, to see all the major sights. The dinners and cooking classes were amazing. The homestay is at a great location to discover the countryside (lots to see!), maybe less for the city center. A shower in the room is a big plus not all homestays automatically have!

GermanyNothing but just to mention that this is no hotel and normal life in the country, people get up early so you do too
This was a unique experience, the host family is so lovely and emphatic. The communication before our arrival via WhatsApp was very smooth. As we could not get cash at the arrival day, our host even payed the taxi driver which is IMHO really outstanding. Points we really enjoyed: we easily got a motorbike to rent for a day for 150K Dong. The host organised a day trip for us on very short notice (10pm!). And the food! It was absolutely delicious, I strongly recommend to book breakfast and dinner. We helped a bit cooking but main work was done by the family, thanks again for the lovely stay and the warm hosting. Ah, one more thing as there were a few negative comments about English skills: IMHO this is nonsense, why booking a homestay and then expecting to easy go with English? Learn Vietnamese is also an appropriate option.

ItalyNothing!
I loved the wooden and bamboo room, with big comfortable beds, including mosquito nets. I really liked to cook with Diem, she taught us to prepare spring rolls and we fried them in a pan on a wood fire outside the house, everything typically Vietnamese! There is the possibility to have bicycles for free and ride around the village. Diem is very helpful and gave us a lot of advices, she also helped us with booking the bus tickets etc

We were lucky to arrive there on the weekend, the owner had the time to show us her farm, and after we were cooking and eating together. Luckily we took the tour next day with her. SwitzerlandWe stayed at the Chau Doc Homestay for 3 nights. We arrived at 3am unexpectedly and she still organized a taxi to come pick us up. We could easily rent a motor bike for 2 days. On one day, the host took the time to show us around a farming village and their farming fields. She explained us how they sow the seeds, pluck them and bring them to the market. We also cooked dinner with the family. Overall, it was a great and homely stay. We would recommend this place for anyone staying in Chau Doc.

AustraliaToilet was full of Toilet paper on arrival. Contacted property 3 times before stay and didn't receive a reply. No food close by to get a meal. Sheets were a shiny nylon, not ideal to sleep on with no air con Didn't get WiFi till the English speaking person came home early evening so couldn't order grab. Had brekky included, homestay knew we had to leave early at 6.30, nothing organised, would have been happy with a banana, instead was asked if we wanted to buy some sticky rice on a cart going by. 24 hours between meals, I don't like writing bad reviews normally, if there is 1 or 2 things wrong it wouldn't be a negative review. But too many things wrong
The history of the main home. The people were friendly enough

FranceWe were expecting to be really in the nature but bungalows are right in front of a big road. If you want to relax and chill in the middle of nowhere, this is not the right place. Lots of noises both at night and day. We were very disappointed to see that this is not calm at all … We are far from the city but without the advantages to be in the nature. Wifi is very poor, take with you some data if you want to use internet. No hot water. This is not a good value for money since the price is higher than in the city.
The family is super kind and welcoming. We took the option at 150.000d/pax to have the dinner and the breakfast. The food was great. We had a little visit in the vegetables fields which was great.
