Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Great location, wonderful decor and delicious breakfast. The best part, however, was the staff - they went out of their way to ensure we had a fantastic trip. From giving umbrellas while it was pouring and providing local tips, to finding a quiet spot that I could use to take a work call after checking out, they were uniformly helpful and welcoming.

ColombiaI stayed in Hotel du Lac for around 3-4 days and I couldn't have chosen a better place to start my adventure in Hanoi. The hotel is very centrally located, the facilities are super cozy (specially the lobby) and the staff is just unbelievably kind. For you to know what I mean: I left my laptop charger (a MacBook Pro) in my home country by mistake and they helped me get a brand new charger (a model that happened to be super tricky to find). I was amazed by how well they treated us. Always greeting us and smiling. The beds are super comfy, so you will have a good sleep. Rooms are quiet as well. Their breakfast is very complete. You will have eggs "a la carte", local food like Pho, yogurts, fruit, several kinds of teas and even sushi. They also have a rooftop bar/terrace. Perfect to chill for a while and check out the city while you have a good juice or cocktail. Finally, speaking about their location... well... it's a 10/10. You are in the middle of the old quarters so everything is reachable by foot. From the water-poppets theater, to the lake, cafés, and even bars. It will just take you a few minutes while you experience the action in the streets. I was going to book again, but sadly got sick. Thank you for everything guys! :)

AustraliaNothing.
Very nice hotel in a great location. The staff were absolutely excellent. We had a room on a higher floor and had no street noise at all and I’m fussy. We had a small problem which they reacted to brilliantly. I can’t fault the place at all.

United StatesThere are interior facing windows in the rooms but they are easily coverable with curtains.
Superb service. Excellent location. Fantastic rooftop bar with great views. This hotel is perfect for staying in Hanoi’s old quarter. It’s a better value than their big sister property around the corner and if you need to use the gym during your stay, you’re allowed free entry to their sister property. Mary (the GM) and her team made me feel both like a VIP and a friend visiting their home. That combination of service is only seen in the best properties worldwide, and you’ll have it here in Hanoi. I was having trouble booking transport to HaLong and when they found out they took care of booking a more private option at the same rate. They even messaged to check up on me that all went well. I can’t say enough good things about Hotel du Lac — they deserve their high rating and I’ll stay again when in Hanoi. Thanks Hotel du Lac Team!

GermanyUpon checkout the staff wanted us to fill the feedback form. I told them we dont wish to fill this - it was 8am and we were waiting for our pickup to halong bay. 2min later another staff member came and kept standing next to us asking again and again for feedback. I tried to close the conversation but she just didnt leave. The stay was great but trying to push people to leave feedback when its clear they dont wish to engage in conversation early morning is not what is to be expected from luxury service.
All good.

ThailandEverything was wonderful!
We absolutely loved hotel du lac! The hotel’s design is bright and colourful, the location is superb and the breakfast was amazing! By far the best buffet we’ve had in all of the hotels we stayed in - loved the homemade yoghurt, the fresh glass-bottled juices and that we could order multiple items from the a la carte breakfast menu. What makes this hotel truly memorable are the kind and helpful staff. Everyone went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and their hospitality extended beyond our stay as well. We left our bags at the hotel while going on a Halong Bay cruise and upon return they offered us drinks and access to a shower at no extra charge before heading to the airport. I cannot recommend this hotel enough and would not book anywhere else if I come back to Hanoi!

New ZealandNothing! It was perfect!
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and nothing was too much to ask. They made me feel like a VIP and I am certainly not. The location was perfect - walking distance to everywhere - the night market - Beer street and the lake. The room had everything we needed and was very comfortable. I was surprised at how quiet it was including the air-conditioning. We couldn’t hear a peep from outside or inside. The shower was excellent with good water pressure. The staff made sure we had a well lit room -as we are not as young as we once were so light is more important to us! They even went so far as to change the lightbulbs to super bright LED bulbs in the bathroom to give us more light when we mentioned it was a bit dark (or romantic as they called it). The manager Chloe deserves a special mention for being so attentive to us. A real highlight was the breakfast. It matched any breakfast in the world that I’ve had and probably is the best hotel breakfast I’ve had both for quality and variety - an amazing mix of local and Western cuisine. It was hard not to try the entire menu and we gave it a go and everything was incredible from the eggs Florentine to the delicate chicken Pho. The cocktails were also super interesting and tasty!
