How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Room could do with some refurbishing and then again given the price it’s reasonably good.

Nothing to add here really - but need to keep your bearings as the hotel only has a small entrance on the main street so it's easy to miss!
We really enjoyed our stay at Golden Sunshine! The location was excellent, right in the hustle and bustle of Hanoi, and the room was large with great amenities (very fast WiFi, large bed, large desk & full office chair, kettle, fridge, large wardrobe, etc). The breakfast was also good, and the staff were excellent - local tips, helping arrange transportation, laundry, etc. Would definitely recommend!

Couldn’t rate this hotel highly enough. Only a small hotel but location was one block behind Hoan Kiev lake and perfect. Room had double and single bed and was a decent size. What stood out was the very friendly staff that went out of their way to help you. Kevin was fantastic who organised everything- phone SIM, taxis, private cars etc. Would defo recommend this hotel to anyone looking for mid rate room in Hanoi

Nothing. Everything was great.
The room is spacious, clean, and quiet. The staff was especially noteworthy in its excellence. When I had visa troubles that delayed my entry into Vietnam, they were very accommodating and patient with my shifting plans. They even didn’t charge me the full price for the time I didn’t spend here. They can also arrange Transfer to and from the airport. Super quick in the communications. Had to cut my Hanoi trip short. Otherwise I would have stayed here for much longer. A definite for next time!

I was surprised with the small hallway entrance to this hotel. The hotel is looking different from the photos, and only elevator for floor #3 & up. I mentioned and the staff told me the hotel will fix the window to lock better.
I like the location near the center and 36 phố phường. I also like the breakfast with both American and Vietnamese styles (Phở included).

My stay was too short. Will definitely come again.
Perfect place to stay. Walking access to the lake and many must see attractions right from the front door. Accommodation was set back from the bustle of the road via a small corridor. The staff were exceptional. A big thank you to Gem, Thǎng,and Kevin for your warm welcome, your good English, and organising tours and airport pickup. Breakfast was great. Was reasonably quiet, and generous size room.

The shower could be a bit better to avoid getting the rest of the bathroom wet.
Breakfast is amazing. You can order from a menu and there’s also a small buffet with fruits and a few dishes.

The decor of the rooms was tired and visible mildew and the bathroom. A large desk and one chair could be be replaced with extra seating.
The breakfast was very good,fresh fruit and excellent coffee . They also cook eggs in many ways, have pancakes. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The property is set back from the road and our room was very quiet. The location is very good, short walk to coffee, food, the cathedral and the lake.

that we had to leave...
We've had an amazing time at Golden Sunshine Hotel! The room was spacious and spotless clean, and the beds were comfortable. It is quite centrally located, but ideally tucked away in a quiet alley, so you can get a good night's sleep. There's a little breakfast buffet and you can order plenty from the breakfast menu too. Our room was on the 5th floor and there's an elevator. The hotel staff is super friendly and helpful, and they let you store the luggage after checkout. We'll definitely book again, when we return to Hanoi!

It is in a great location for access to main attractions of Hanoi. The room was lovely and comfortable, free breakfast was cooked to order and delicious. The staff especially Alex were so lovely and helpful. Thank you so much!

Beautiful hotel in the heart of Hanoi. Best position, best staff. Vivianne welcomed us when we just arrived in Hanoi. We forgot our hear buds in our room and Mark arranged the delivery in Ninh Binh!!! Great service, great people. We can only say thank you! We will be back

A bit used, but with the location in mind it was a no brainer!
Best reception service ever! Really, been to a few places but these guys outdid everyone. Waited for us at arrival, got us an excellent deal for Halong Bay day tourand also the taxi service they provided was cheaper than Grab with an excellent driver. Thank You for the help with the wonderous time we had in Ha Noi!

No heat from the inverter air conditioner unit in the bedrooms during an unusually cold week. Staff quickly brought extra blankets.
Excellent location in the middle of the Old Quarter with a fair price. The reception staff are incredibly friendly with helpful recommendations for the area. Some of the best customer service I have ever received. Room was large and comfortable. Great quality toilet paper. Good hot and high pressure water in the shower. Tasty omelettes at breakfast. Good selection of fruit.

The property is set in heart of the Old Quarter. It’s close to all museums and important things to see. Staff were amazing and helped us with guides and taxis. I’d recommend the motorbike taxi! Rooms are very comfortable! There’s water provided in the room and all basic toiletries are provided, including toothbrush!

Great location within walking distance to all major stores. The rooms were spacious and clean. We felt very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Alex assisted us getting the best price for the limousine car from Hanoi to Ha Long Bay. Other hotels and cruise operators quoted way more. Alex was very responsive which made check-in easy. Breakfast was great with good options.

Great location and the room was really clean, comfortable and spacious. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, especially Mason & Alex. They made our stay really enjoyable. The breakfast was the best we have had so far on our trip.
