Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

La Ava's Home is perfectly located in the Old Quarter - everything is within walking distance! The room itself was clean, spacious, and felt just like home. But the real star is Ava, the host! Super kind and helpful, she recommended attractions, restaurants, and even let us check in early after a long bus ride. We loved it so much we extended our stay! Highly recommend for anyone visiting Hanoi.

The location in the old quarter is perfect. The house is not direct on a street so it is quiet. We extended our stay for 1 night. Highly recommended!

The host is extremely friendly and sweet. She guides you about the best places to visit, eat, drink, shop, currency exchange, whatever u want. Free coffee and unlimited water from her purifier. She allows you to use her kitchen. The rooms are beautiful and clean with very clean private bathroom. She allows you to keep luggage before check in or after check out if u need. It’s very cozy, clean and comfortable. It’s very close to the lake in the center but in a back alley, so it’s still very quiet at night. I’d definitely recommend it!

IndonesiaNothing, but please note that there are no elevator at the property so you might need to hand-carry your luggages all the way up. One minor thing that I'd like to add is maybe to ads more pillows in the room, but this is just my personal opinion.
Host is amazing and super attentive. She was extremely helpful and provided me with list of places we should visit and activities to do. Room was clean and felt homey. Prime location but in an alley so not too noisy. Would totally recommend this property if you're staying around the Old Quarter.

If you want a good value stay in a very central and buzzing location, I recommend La Ava's Home. Tucked away on a quiet backstreet you get an undisturbed sleep, but within minutes can walk to the buzzing old quarter. Ava is super hospitable and gave us plenty of recommendations. Book here!

United StatesI was surprised that no one was there to greet me upon arrival. I had to go upstairs to find the owner in her room and she had her son bring me to my room instead of introducing herself or welcoming me. It was later (10pm) but I had let her know I would be arriving later. The sound proofing isn’t great, so you can hear all of the traffic noise. Also, not the fault of the owner and I didn’t deduct any points for this but there was construction every morning starting between 7-7:30am, going all day. I had to wear noise cancelling headphones to be in the room. Also, not a big deal, but I would have appreciated a knock before coming into the room for service. I wasn’t really sure if and when I was going to get room service. This wasn’t made clear. There were small details that weren’t attended to. The lighting is harsh and the lamp by the bed didn’t work. The fridge wasn’t plugged in. The toilet paper wasn’t in the bathroom.
Great location near the lake, restaurants, and sites. Able to walk to most places. Free water, fridge, kettle Hot shower Comfortable bed and sheets Owner provided recs through WhatsApp.

SwitzerlandAva's home was perfect, and Ava and her daily are very sweet. The location is perfect - in the center of the Old Quarter yet in a quiet street. The room was very nicely decorated, spacious and confortable. Very nice shower, with great pressure and hot water, and there was coffee, tea and a kettle in the room for the morning. Ava was also very helpful, always quick to answer her phone whenever we had a question. She also helped us book bus ticket and taxis. We stayed there twice, and will not hesitate to go again whenever in Hanoi. I cannot recommand this place more!

United StatesWe got a message just a few hours before arriving that our room would not be available for the first night because the host just had a baby recently and her mother needed somewhere to stay. She did offer to put us up in her friend's homestay for one night, but we felt more comfortable booking accommodation on our own instead. Also, the shower situation could be improved. Having lived in SE Asia for 6 years now, the concept of a wet room is not new to us, but this one was just not up to par. The water did not drain properly and poor ventilation in the bathroom meant that it took forever for the rest to evaporate from the floor.
The room was clean, and the location was convenient, but the highlight was Ava herself. She had excellent recommendations and was extremely responsive to any question or concern we had. When we mentioned it was cold in the room, she got us a heater ASAP. She also helped us book our transportation to Ninh Binh for a great price. Thank you so much!
