Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesIt was great!!
The location and property is gorgeous. There are an abundance of flowers and plants that are growing everywhere and are meticulously tended. Our bungalow was quiet and clean, the AC worked well and the bed was large and comfortable. Our host, Hai, was an enthusiastic and friendly person who went above and beyond to make our stay extra special. He arranged tours, transportation, meals and good spirit! Hai gives individualized service and recommendations. He is attentive and kind.

United StatesThe best possible place you can stay while Visiting cat ba island. Very warm and welcoming staff, and the surroundings are unbeatable. You get the real authentic island vibe, which is amazing because it is impossible to find that in halong bay and even other parts of cat ba. The tours theta range for you are amazing, and the food is also fantastic. If you plan to visit cat ba island for two days or longer - this is the place to book, without question.

ItalyBeautiful location in the little village. The garden was well kept and I really enjoyed my stay here. The staff is friendly and so fun! The boat trip to the village was just amazing. I recommend to take the public boat, because it’s slower & cheaper and you can admire the beauty of Lan ha bay for about one hour. Consider there are just 2 departure times. Ask for the prices at the harbour.

We had the absolute best time. We stayed for 4 nights which was just enough - the staff were exceptional the whole way through and so kind. They even arranged to have a birthday cake made and collected from Cat Ba town for my boyfriends birthday as a surprise for him (complete with public embarrassment singing accompanied by guitar). We did the boat trip and the night bioluminescent kayak trip & we really enjoyed both - the evening trip was especially cool. The homestay is quiet but we appreciated that. The room was clean and comfortable, food was nice and we had dinner most nights. Had a good and varied vegetarian selection which I was grateful for. We were a bit worried about the transfer from Hanoi but it was all smooth and they made a couple of changes for us on the morning we left so we could leave our bags in the tour office and explore Cat Ba town for a few hours. We would definitely come again if ever had the opportunity, and really reccomend booking :)

AustraliaWould 100 percent recommend this place if you are into nature and adventure!!!!!!! It was perfect for us but might not be the place for you if long hot showers and fancy food/coffee are important to you. Also, one of our rooms did have a bit of a damp smell. As noted by others, while accommodation is good value for money, items on top of your accommodation (tours, food, drink, transport) are quite costly.
Gardens were just beautiful (!!!) and could be enjoyed in hammocks, outdoor chairs and communal areas. The transit to and from the homestay from Cat Ba is as much a part of the experience as the staying there. The public ferry is a great way of experiencing the bay, it's beauty and the local culture. If on a tight budget, it really would be enough to just do this ferry back and forth and skip a "cruise" in my opinion. The speedboat option is also a very fun way to experience the bay in a different way if you've done enough of lapping up the beauty in the slow way. The electric buggy back and forth from the pier is amazingly fun and beautiful. We hired the local (no geared) bikes from the homestay and repeated the route on bikes. The best bike ride we've done in terms of beauty and interest! The village is tiny bit fun to stroll around and feels very safe. Ancient house and Bat Cave were great destinations for a walk in the jungle.. We happened to come across a guided group at the Bat Cave and were told that the village people hid in the cave during the war. There is some writing on the wall of the name of a General who was there at the time. Navy Peak was very steep. It was slippery when we did it. An adventure in those conditions. Impressive views if you make it. We did a short night speedboat and kayak at night to see the bioluminescent plankton. Fun to experience it all at night but not an essential part of the experience. Communal meal has a nice atmosphere and nice to meet some other travellers and get their stories and recommendations. Ryan was a great, relaxed, friendly, helpful host. Always there for us but not pushy in any way.

United KingdomThe staff at Lan Homestay are very helpful! Such lovely people. The Homestay is very remote and the town was very quiet in the evening (bar the local karaoke of course…) The karaoke can be heard from the room (at other hotels) but it stopped at around 10pm. The Homestay does take a while to travel to from Halong bag, so I would recommend minimum 2 night stay to make the journey worth it :) Very relaxing once there, lan ha bay is a beautiful area From the Homestay, we hired our own kayaks for the day, we did not do a group tour

GermanyThe dinner as additional service booked was in low quantity and quality. One evening it was not enough available for the 12 people at the table. ( not enough fruits and nobody take care of that) Unfortunately it was not really local food, what a pity. Here is a lot room for improvements for the owner family
The staff was available for our wishes and requests every time. Chilli is the heart of the homestay, everything was very well organized by him, the bay transport, the bus transport, simply everything. An exquisit service. Also his colleague Thanh and Hai helped and supported whenever it was needed. Chilli and his colleague give that homestay their own character. The garden is a little paradise,

Perfect place for a weekend getaway if you like nature and less crowded area. We loved everything about this place: remote location, fresh air, lots of greenery, very spacious rooms (cabins). Mr Chilly helped us a lot with logistics and tours. We took 2 tours: sunset kayaking and day boating. I highly recommend both! Great value for money and amazing opportunities.

Wonderful tropical gardens in the homestay and we loved to be in the middle of the national park. Loved eating with the other guests in the communal areas. All the staff looked after us and were extremely friendly. We loved all of the activities that were available as well. It was all made so easy to organise everything from food to trips to getting to and from the village as Chilly was helping us all the way giving us all the options then arranging what we asked for (like having a personal travel agent - I’ve no idea how he does it!). Very much value for money too in my opinion. Highly recommended!!!

A very memorable stay in an amazing location. Chilly is a phenomenal fixer and totally trustworthy. Our stay was complicated by a typhoon and various other factors but Chilly went above and beyond to ensure a series of drivers picked us up at the right times and got us on our way. The two trips were also great- they threw in delicious bbq oysters on beach although only very short kayak on sunset trip and bioluminescence is not strong in rainy season. The cabins themselves are perfectly fine with AC and showers - although internet connection and phone signal not reliable. The food and drink were reasonably priced. The whole trip for family of 5 - with all transport from Hanoi and onward to Haiphong, and food and two trips - cost £588 for one night and two days. Not cheap but a fraction of cost of Halong Bay luxury cruise and a more authentic and sustainable way of traveling.

New ZealandGetting there was expensive and problematic because we’d arrived in Càt Ba after a long sleeper bus trip early in the morning and it was too long to wait for the public ferry.
The gardens were amazing and had attracted hundreds of huge butterflies. The relaxed atmosphere was lovely. The shared dinner was fun and had great vegetarian food. You felt you were living amongst the community.
