Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

HungaryWe had a dirty towel, when we checked in but
Beautiful secluded location in the valley with a view of the rice fields. The rooms were very spacious and had everything we needed. They helped us book an amazing trekking tour.

AustraliaSlightly out of town so you need to get transport to and from Sapa and there's nothing nearby in the way of cafes etc.
Fantastic location overlooking terraced rice fields on a hillside. We had an amazing wooden bath with a perfect view! You can go for walks around the valley and rice fields (but we had completed a full-day walk elsewhere so were happy just to watch others walking here). The property is on a very steep slope so you need to be reasonably fit and not afraid of heights!

-location is amazing. Very zen place, seeing from the room the nice rice terraces. Hearing the water going down the rice fields and the birds, so authentic -good breakfast, the atmosphere from the restaurant full of big windows, having the relaxing music in a low voice and with the surrounding is so great. They have a terrace as well -nice, traditional room -Truong is an amazing person. Speaks English very well, fits very well in the accommodation style being very friendly, polite and doing really everything to make us feel great (rented a motorbike, adviced us about the weather to be safe with the motorbike, about the weather on Fansipan mountain, recommended the best places to visit, arranged us a taxi, offered quick laundry service for good price, helped us with the luggage as to get to the rooms there are quite a few stairs to go down). -the property is outside Sapa, easily reachable by taxi (Troung found one available anytime) or scooter. The property is connected to the main road that goes to Sapa through a narrow road which is not very good (we still did it on scooter and it takes about 10 min on this bumpy narrow road from the property to the main road that goes to Sapa) I recommend the place, from where you can enjoy the nature and silence and in just a few min to be in the beautiful and more busier Sapa. For those interested in trekking, there are many people going on the path just in front of the accommodation accompanied by local hmong guides

Great views from the balcony and the restaurant! Very secluded, nice staff and good rooms. Restaurant was great for dinner, and visit the cafe that’s 15 mins up the road (lang chay) for the best views and drinks.

United StatesThere is a long flight of very steep steps from the restaurant down to the rooms. I was the absolute furthest and I struggled a bit. I wish I’d asked to change. If that would be an issue for you check in advance.

United KingdomThe rooms are beautiful but lacking functionality: for example there was not enough hot water to fill a bath (took us 2 hours with a kettle...). The main reception area where the restaurant is was freezing cold, and you don't have a choice than to eat there considering the place is quite secluded. Food was ok but nothing super exciting.
Beautiful hotel with a very tasteful interior design, amazing location and views. It feels like being in a retreat in the mountains, very peaceful!

Spain-
My partner and I had a wonderful and super relaxing week during our stay at Maison de Lao Chai and we can’t recommend than enough! If you are thinking about booking them because of the amazing view they have, trust us, they are waaaaay more than ‘’just’’ a pretty (actually mind-blowing 😲) view. Our room was incredible, and waking up hearing the little stream and birds was quite cool. They helped us booking a trekking tour and also they have a taxi driver who you can be in touch with to take you anywhere if needed (sapa town and etc). Their breakfast is delicious. Thanks Phin for the best cappuccino. Also, their menu for lunch and dinner cover a good range of options (we basically had almost all our meals there for the entire week). Big shot-out to Truong Le (thanks for the great conversations mate o/) and the whole team for always going above and beyond to help us out everyday. Everyone is super kind and you guys definitely made us feel like home. Guys, keep up the good work. We will definitely recommend you to everyone we know who is heading to Sapa. And if we ever go back there (hope so), for sure we know where we will stay again 🫶. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
