Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MalaysiaDirections on how to get to the homestay on arrival could improve.
Loved the location, Lao Chai is less commercial than Ta Van and feels more like an authentic H’mong Black village, spreading wide across the valley. The homestay is a newly built, large wooden building with good size rooms, one toilet and one shower room. The owner Chu keeps his homestay very clean and cooks wonderful food. According to the local custom, Chu also offers the local rice liquor which has been a much welcomed extra! I highly recommend this homestay, great hikes with local guides. Thank you Chu for your kind hospitality and all your help with transport and recommendations!

SwedenPeaceful surroundings in the middle of the ricefields, away from busy roads. Helpful host couple. Nice with possibilty to have dinner with the family. With the help of google translate communication works fine. When arriving and walking the 200 m from the taxi to the house you will probably be approached by local girls wanting to sell crafts. Wait with buying from them. The hosts mother has a little shop in the homestay. Maybe you want to purchase from them instead.

New ZealandDidn’t bother us but for people to know - one shower and a separate toilet for the homestay shared with other guests (kept very clean). Cannot access the property by car, about a 5-8min walk from the main bridge along a path if coming/leaving by taxi.
Our favourite stay of our Vietnam Trip. We loved staying with the host couple their 2y boy in their home. The hosts helped with whatever we needed, The cooked breakfasts (pick from about 8 options) with drip coffee were yummy and they made incredibly delicious family dinners where you can sit with the family and other traveller and share a meal (extra charge but SO worth it) The beds were soft and comfortable, the private room was cosy and includes a kettle, electric blanket, hangers and drinking water. We enjoyed just hanging around the property one of our days, in the hammock, with the neighbours children and walking through the rice fields. They also helped us arrange a taxi to SaPa early and the morning to catch our bus, and the host gave us some fruit and water for our early morning trip. There’s also wifi and a hot shower. Absolutely amazing stay, 100% recommend to anyone wanting to stay outside of SaPa.

United KingdomNot a negative but you have to walk from the main road, it’s a beautiful walk and really easy so don’t be put off. Just don’t expect to wheel a suitcase, although the same goes for most places!
The family are incredibly kind and welcoming. The house is set in unbelievably beautiful surroundings with views across rice padis where buffalo are meandering. The rooms are basic but perfect and spacious with heated blankets if it’s cold. The communal spaces are great and everyone mixes together. The shower is powerful and warm and the toilet very clean. Also the decor is really cool!

AustraliaOur stay was such a great experience. Being with our local H’mong hosts was a great cultural experience, and we are grateful to them for serving such large traditional meals and educating us on their history and language. The homestay is located in the mountain valley and we enjoyed walks up and along the peaks of the mountains that surrounded jt. We would return to this beautiful location without a doubt.

SwedenThe house it situated in a beautiful village, so perfect for a more chill stay outside of busy Sapa. The family was super helpful, helping to book taxi, hiking tour departing from the house. The breakfast and family dinner was extremely Good, they made the while dinner vegetarian when I told them I was a vegetarian. Perfect stay if you want to hike and Explorer nature, or just relax for a few days. If you are a cold person, you could ask for an extra blanket if you stay when its cold. We enjoyed our stay here even though the weather was not ideal.

CanadaThis place is absolutely fantastic, from the cozy home to the serene environment! The hosts are incredibly welcoming, making us feel like part of their family. Their adorable son just adds to the overall charm of the place. Trust me, there's absolutely nothing to complain about! If you're having doubts about booking, just go for it – you won't regret it. The rooms are super comfortable, and the breakfast is delicious. Don't miss out on the opportunity to have dinner with the family - it's a must-do! We were also lucky to meet some fantastic fellow guests, which made our stay even more enjoyable. This experience is definitely going to be one of the top three highlights of our trip to Vietnam!

This was our favorite stay in Vietnam. The property sits in the gorgeous Hmong Hoa valley right on a rice farm with more terraces in the view. A couple of waterfalls within view as well. Also a 1 min walk from the local village. The hosts are wonderful and treat you like part of the family. They are working on their English still but that didn’t effect our experience. They were so kind and accommodating. We would most definitely stay here again!

United KingdomIt didn’t bother me but there is one shared bathroom - very modern and clean - for all the guests on the ground floor.
Everything! This was the best stay in Vietnam so far. The location is so beautiful- you’re right in the middle of the rice paddies. I could see the two waterfalls from my window and hear them at night. The bedrooms are large, comfortable and clean, nicely decorated. Cho, Tu and their son Chao were beyond welcoming. I ate the most delicious dinners with them every night & we finished every night with happy water! Having a communal dinner was really lovely and bought everyone together where we all shared our cultures and stories. They were so hospitable and their son was a little cutie! I was very sad to leave. highly recommend staying here if you want to live with a local family in a beautiful setting.
