How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

From the moment you walk in, you are greeted by the friendliest of staff, dedicated to your stay. Breakfast too was fantastic, the restaurant staff were all super friendly, always asking about your day and plans. We took a tour booked through the hotel, no issues, a fantastic day. 10/10

The communication and the friendly staff were awesome. The beds were great and we slept like a baby. Although we stayed for one night, the attentive staff felt like family.

Tasty breakfast and excellent service. The staff were extremely attentive and even packed us a breakfast for our early flight. The hotel is right near a highway so we were always the first to get picked up and dropped off for excursions that started from Hanoi.

The only downside was the laundry service. This is contracted out by the hotel to another company, but it was not sufficient to remove basic stains like dusk and dirt as they only wash cold for some reason. Very disappointing. We talked to the hotel about our clothes not being properly cleaned and they gave us a discount on what we paid, but still we had to get our clothes cleaned again afterwards anyway. They should caveat that the clothes are only washed in a cold wash. This is often not sufficient no matter how good the detergent!
We had a nice stay in this hotel. Jan at reception was great and helpful. Room was nice and comfortable and bed was so comfortable which is key!

No swimming pool. The equipment is not very convenient to use, which makes you wonder who designed the room (the minibar is inside of the wardrobe !?!! the sink is by the door?!)
Good value for money. Nice and super helpful staff, comfortable bed. Very well-situated with the main tourist attractions and neighborhoods within walking distance. Rooftop bar is great, very chill, drinks are delicious

Very nice people ad the reception. Ny from the reception gave us a very nice welcome. She helped us with giving a lot of nice information to discover Hanoi and gave us a really good service. We had a beautiful, big and very clean family room. We had a lot of choice for breakfast. The hotel is very close to the lake and city centre.

The staff was highlight of the stay. 5 star service all the way. I was in an accident and they did everything they could to accommodate me. I felt very well taken care of! It was comforting to have friendly faces helping me everytime I went through the lobby. A big thank you to Jen and the whole team at Shining Hotel! The room was so nice I didn't mind spending so much time in it while I recovered. Spacious, comfy bed, warm and good shower pressure. The breakfast was also delicious with many options to choose from.

Maybe they can consider changing the shampoo type in the bathrooms. It was not good for the hair.
The room is spacious for Vietnamese standards. We would get clean towels everyday. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Especially Emily she was lovely. They organized two tours for us. Both of them were great. Location can’t get better. Walking distance to the whole old quartier.

Thank you very much for the great time at your hotel in Hanoi. All the staff were always friendly and helpful (especially Hong Tran was available after hours & organised transfers & excursions). After the massage in the spa for which we paid a predetermined price, a tip was asked by the staff, which kind of felt a little awkward.
This place is honestly amazing, incredibly comfortable rooms & beds. The staff is super helpful and kind. The breakfast was the best we had in Vietnam (buffet). We had a bit of an unusual check-in time linked to bus arrivals. We were able to easily communicate our needs in advance and everything went super smooth. I highly recommend this place.
