Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyI wish there would be a female dorm as well. There were only mixed dorm options.
She is the best host ever! She is very welcoming, attentive of everyone's needs and calls everyone by their name which is very impressive. She does everything to give you the best time in Hoi An. She does a free streetfood tour and you can also book a cooking class which I would both strongly recommend. I especially liked the breakfast which makes you connect to other travelers as well. Thank you again for the best hospitality one can wish for.

New ZealandHien (the Hostel Manager) is amazing! She goes above and beyond to make sure her guests are well looked after both in her hostel and in the wider Hoi an town. The included breakfasts are fantastic and the rooms are really comfortable and clean. We loved Hien’s (super cheap!) street food tour and all her recommendations for things to do in Hoi An. The hostel is on the slightly smaller size which means it’s social and but not noisy. Favourite place we’ve stayed in Vietnam and would highly recommend.

GermanyReally nothing
The owner is the sweetest person ever. She is always very kind, laughs a lot and helps with everything. The rooms are very nice, bathrooms clean and my favourite part: the breakfast outside in the little patio in front of the house (and it's a really good breakfast too). With the bike you are in less than 5 minutes in the old quarter of the town, but there are also good cafes and restaurants close by.

United KingdomMy stay here was amazing and Hien was the best host of my travels so far. She created ways for all the guests to come together and really genuinely cared about all her guests. I loved her street food tour but most importantly she is a genuinely lovely person. I'd recommend this hostel to anybody travelling to Hoi An. I also booked my onward travel through the hostel and took advantage of Hien's excellent recommendations and the hostel bikes. Staying here made me want to spend even longer in Hoi An but unfortunately I had to move on. Breakfast was also excellent, and although the hostel is a little out of the city its really no time at all to walk or cycle into the old town. You're also within 15 minutes of the beach which was perfect for me.

FranceI spent 6 nights at Cheerful Hostel with Hiêń (although I was supposed to leave earlier) because it really was the best hostel I have ever stayed in so far. The beds are comfortable, cleaning is done several times a day, water is hot, breakfast is delicious, location is nice. And the hostess Hiêń is the best person I met in Vietnam so far, she behaves like a mom, she is very kind, takes care of every guest, and as the best recommandations. She creates such a good atmosphere that it is very easy to become friends with all the other solo travelers. Best time in Hoi An if you go there!!!

I absolutely cannot recommend Cheerful enough. Hien is truly a legend- she cares so deeply for her hostel and her guests. This space attracts wonderful people so you won't be hard pressed to find connection if you're open to it. The breakfast is delightful and if you're lucky you can enjoy Hien's family meal if you're still in town (I stayed an extra day just to be there to enjoy with everyone.) I will be back x

The food was great: she prepared a different dish every morning. Would definitely recommend thus place for sure! It’s a bit out of the city centre but that’s nice, just a short bike ride away (that u can rent at the hostel). Thank you for everything Hien, hope u can achieve your dream!

Best host I have ever come across. Will do anything and everything to help you out. Really does make you feel relaxed. Place is really clean. Breakfast is good with a great selection. Close to town. Owner has bicycle and scooters for rent. Helped us sort any tours or transport we needed. On the first night I went on a street food tour with the owner and the other guests. This really helped everyone get to know eachother. But most importantly Hin (the owner) really is the star of this property. If I'm ever In hoi an again I will be coming back.

FranceWhen staying in this hostel, I just felt like I was just welcomed in a huge family. This was truly incredible! I've never met such a thoughtful host. She always makes sure that everything works for you and even if it is the case, she will just do even more. I, personally, was a bit sick during my stay and Hien made sure that I was properly recovering, checking up on me, giving me medication, food and advices to make sure I'd heal as quickly as possible! Regarding the room, it was very clean and spacious. It looks exactly like the pictures. The location is also good, 20min walk from the old quarter. But there are also bikes available for rent for those who do not wish to walk. Also, if needed, the hotel can arrange trips and transports but it never feels pushy! They give you their offer and price and let you decide if you're ok with it or not. Overall, this is truly great value for money. 10/10 would recommand !!

CanadaEverything was great
The rooms and the house itself were great, very spacious and clean. The hostel is pretty well located, it’s a 15-20minute walk away from the old town but you can also take one of the bikes or rent a scooter for a very small fee. But the best part was Hien herself, she was more like a mum than an owner and constantly went out of her way to make sure everybody is happy. She organized a private airport transfer and recommended me the best tailor in town. We went on a street food tour with her which cost a fraction of the price that you pay for organised tours and she created an extremely social atmosphere. This place is definitely more special than other hostels/homestays and that’s largely due to Hien, she truly makes you feel at home (which I thought I would never say about a hostel)
