Stunning property. Wonderful hosts. I received other recommendations for places to stay in Nelspruit, but they weren’t what I was looking for. I stumbled upon Torburnlea, impressed by the pics and description provided. They didn’t do it justice! Wow! From the moment I stepped in the door, I was enthralled. First, I was met by the very kind and helpful Stanford, who showed me my room and amenities then hustled up some hot tea and biscuits on this cold day in Nelspruit! I strolled the neighborhood, which is safe and beautiful, taking more flower pictures and scenic overlook shots than I actually need. Got to spend some time with other houseguests and hostess Kim Hall before I ordered from Uber Eats. There was no house cooking on Saturday night (or perhaps I didn’t arrive in time to make a dinner order). After dinner, conversation by candlelight with a background fire crackling is always a winner (due to loadshedding). Upstairs again, I was impressed by the small and smart things that make my room so nice: an oversized bathmat; oversized towels; water carafes for each side of the bed; good lighting; quaint features, like the two-step riser to a little sitting area with throw blankets (I’m in Room 6), books and sherry. The chocolates and the biscuits with the tea I mentioned earlier were YUMMY! My final day was out on a game drive, but Torburnlea welcomed me back as if I belonged! Andrew and Kim and their staff made me feel welcome and special. I give Torburnlea my highest recommendation for its location, splendor, comforts, extravagances, and hospitality! Torburnlea is not a commercial game reserve or contemporary lodging. If you love history, camaraderie, and entirely unique lodging, this is the place for you. My only recommendation is to have a rental car. I made the assumption Uber would be more readily available in Nelspruit. Enjoy! (May add photos later when I get home.)
