A great place to relax and get away from the busy city life! Staff is very kind and helpful, and Konchan the cat runs the place smoothly! The onsen water is mild, and is good for everyone, and I loved the fact they were rotating men's and ladies' baths so we could experience both. Delicious food, beautifully presented!

Everything was perfect, and that's no exaggeration! Matsumoto Jujo is not just a hotel; it has cafes, a bakery, a boutique, and more. And this is because they created the place to help rejuvenate the local region/town, Asama Onsen. Just this background story is already so moving and impressive. I stayed at the "Matsumoto Honbako" and there, they have originally an old communal bath which turned into an instagram-worthy library. I heard it's more than 10,000 books! The design of the place is too awesome! It's like brutalist structure but Scandinavian interior with Japanese elements here and there. I cannot really say much but I know for sure it's great design! Their dining place, "367" serves the freshest ingredients, especially the veggies!! Dinner is filling but it will not make you feel bloated or too full. Breakfast is the same and I liked that you get a lot of fresh bread - straight from their own bakery. Actually, you can buy most of the ingredients they use in their dishes at their boutique. I got myself some bottles of their original apple Juice. There were so many things to like: onsen bath at the veranda of my own room, free tumbler which you can refill with their original coffee, private reading nooks within bookshelves, free snacks in each floor, super comfy beds, amazing staff, Edo-style communal bath outside the hotel... the list goes on. I cannot wait to go back again!!

A 5-minute drive from National Treasure Matsumoto Castle, Ryokan Seifuso is next to Shinshu University and boasts a view of the Northern Alps and the freshness of the Metoba River. It is ideal for sightseeing such as Kamikochi, a mountainous scenic spot, Norikura Kogen, which has abundant trekking courses, Azumino, an original landscape of Japan blessed with Dosojin and spring water, and Utsukushigahara Kogen, which was praised by Kihachi Ozaki, a mountain poet.
It is family owned. Nice people and they dropped me off at the station. They offer a free bike.
