A 5-minute walk from Sounkyo Bus Terminal, Sounkaku features hot spring baths, a sauna and 4 restaurants. It offers Japanese-style accommodation.
Rooms have a tatami (woven mat) floor and a low table with seating cushions. They come with an LCD TV, a small fridge and a bathroom with toiletries. Guests sleep in Japanese futons on the floor.

very friendly staff, great outdoor onsen, good location, free and easy parking, free water; great store buy anything one needs on the road. There was a sauna we did not use neither the 1st floor onset. Unfortunately we drove far away from the place and could not make it to their exceptional open kitchen dinner. There was a coffee free to use outside breakfast. It is partially renovated and seemed we stayed in the old part but it was very comfortable and nice apartment we were pleasantly surprised by.

The breakfast was very good, and I really enjoyed the location of this hotel! The room was also very clean, if I was in the area, I would stay here again!

However, I wouldn't stay at this hotel again! The public areas of the hotel - the lounge and bakery on the ground floor were nice. The onsens were nice with scenic views of the canyon and mountains. There is a free shuttle bus to and from Asahikawa which can be arranged. I booked a Japanese style room and it was quite big. An electrical power strip with USB charging sockets was provided in the room.

The onsen is okay, but one side is definitely better than the other. Luckily it switches every day. Outside there are two small baths which are nice and the large bath inside is average.
