The drive up to the location was gorgeous, the host picked me up from Tsumago and after my stay dropped me off to the Nagiso train station. While the host speaks limited english, he is a wonderful conversationalist and a joy to talk to. The accommodation itself is very spacious, the interior design beautiful, and the onsen baths were at really comfortable temperature for me. While I was unable to eat all of the food they served (I have a small stomach, not their fault), I really wish i could have, because I think it was one of the best meals I've ever had. I will definitely come back some day.

This was our first ryokan stay and our first onsen. We hiked on the day we arrived from Magome to Tsumago along the Nakasendo Trail and were planning to take the bus and train to the hotel but decided on a taxi instead. It was the right choice as it only took 20 minutes instead of the hour if we had done a bus/train. The hotel was clean an comfortable located in the beautiful Atera Valley. They have indoor onsen facilities which we enjoyed a couple of time during our stay. The food for both supper and breakfast was delicious but make sure you bring your appetite as they feed you well. We hiked in the atera valley on the day we were leaving and it was worth it. The water in the river is perfectly clear and it is a beautiful blue colour. Loved our experience here. The train station is a bit of a walk from the hotel so either line up the hotel shuttle to come get you or get a taxi.
