Offering 7th-floor hot-spring baths with mountain views and traditional Japanese cuisine, Nakamatsuya Ryokan is 5 minutes from Bessho-Onsen Train Station on the free shuttle. Rooms have Japanese-style futon bedding on a tatami (woven-straw) floor and include free Wi-Fi. Parking is free.

Our Nakamatsuya stay was absolutely perfect. The staff were so welcoming and helpful - an English speaking host came to greet us on arrival as neither of us are Japanese - and the timings of dinner and onsen availability etc was explained thoroughly. They allowed us to drop our luggage before check in and it was waiting for us in our room on arrival. The room was beautiful and the ultimate comfort. We had the western/mix room with it's own private hot spring bath. We changed into our robes and tabi socks as soon as we arrived and pretty much wore them the entire time, including for a walk around the town in the evening. It's easily the most luxurious place we stayed throughout our whole trip, and this was partly to do with the fact that there were only 25 rooms so it felt very quiet and relaxing - I was the only person in the hot spring bath when I arrived! The outdoor top floor bath has a gorgeous view of the mountains and there is a cold beer vending machine outside the onsen entrance so we sat in the relaxation space with a cold beer as soon as we left the bath. Heavenly! Kaiseki dinner was incredible and we tried numerous sakes. Breakfast was also incredible with numerous delicious small tastes of various seasonal and traditional dishes. It is an expensive hotel but when you consider everything that comes with it I believe it is worth it for a truly memorable experience.

The staff was very attentive, the person from the reception desk overheard us talking that kids need water and brought it even without asking. The ryokan has a 150 years history and you can feel it. Beautiful view from the women's rotemburo, I recommend going at dawn. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic.

Host was ready to welcome us when we arrived. He was very nice and recommended us to a great restaurant in the town as well as informed us about onsen opening hours and more. We were also offered tea, some local sweets, and a cup of coffee in the morning. The accommodation was clean and comfy, with kotatsu in the room. You can also enjoy sleeping in futon on traditional tatami floor. Overall great accommodation, highly recommended.

A very warm welcome including valet parking. We stayed in a Japanese style room that was prepared for the night during dinner. We were blown away by the dedication and enthusiasm of explaining the intricacies of the Japanese culture by the staff. This continued throughout the high end Kaiseki multi-course dinner. Even the owner showed up to welcome us and present us with a gift. We also enjoyed the onsen. Thank you to all, we will never forget our stay here.
