Hotel Asafuji 3 stars

Fujikawaguchiko Onsen-kyo, Fujikawaguchiko

The air-conditioned rooms at Hotel Asafuji have Shoji paper screens and a low table with floor chairs and cushions. Each room includes a fridge, private toilet, and guests bathe at the hot-spring baths. Japanese-style futon bedding on a tatami (woven-straw) floor is provided. Yukata robes are offered for guests. We booked Asafuji somewhat impulsively, having limited options at the last minute, but it turned out to be a delightful choice. Managed by a couple for four decades, Asafuji is a charming hotel where every detail is meticulously taken care of. Despite the initial impression of small rooms from the website, we were pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness upon arrival. The highlight, undoubtedly, is the breathtaking view of the lake and Mt. Fuji – a feature that we absolutely loved, and the ONSEN! The staff at Asafuji played a significant role in enhancing our experience. Their assistance was not only helpful but also prompt in response. A special mention goes to a female Vietnamese staff member who went the extra mile to encourage my son to eat during dinner. This seemingly simple gesture significantly contributed to our peace of mind while indulging in the scrumptious dinner prepared by the hotel. Speaking of which, the food was not only delicious but well presented in Japanese style. For those seeking the authentic ryokan experience in Kawaguchiko, I wholeheartedly recommend Asafuji. Despite its modest size, the hotel's central location manages to strike a perfect balance, offering tranquility amidst the scenic surroundings. Our stay at Asafuji was a memorable blend of comfort, stunning views, and warm hospitality – an experience we would gladly repeat and recommend to fellow travelers.

Fuji Onsenji Yumedono 5 stars

Fujikawaguchiko

Luxurious ryokan Fuji Onsenji Yumedono is located just 500 metres from Lake Kawaguchiko. It features traditional Japanese cuisine served in the dining area, suites with in-room hot springs and a garden. I visited Japan in May to enjoy the wisteria in full bloom thinking it will be the highlight of my trip, my stay in this charming onsenji ended up climbing the charts instead. The staff were very attentive to details even before my arrival, checking on meal preferences and customizing a vegetarian alternative for me and my mom. There were countless things to appreciate and admire, the garden, the koi pond, the exquisite food, the yukata and pijamas to chose from, the heated bathroom tiles and your own private onsen. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay despite the room being slightly different to what I have booked due to recent remodeling. We were welcomed by super friendly Demant who walked us through the facilities and kept checking on us to make sure we have everything we needed. Thank you for a truly unforgettable experience.

Private Hotel Rei 3 stars

Fujikawaguchiko

Boasting mountain views, Private Hotel Rei features accommodation with terrace, around 7.1 km from Lake Kawaguchi. Each accommodation at the 3-star ryokan has lake views, and guests can enjoy access to free bikes and to a garden. The ryokan offers rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi.

The ryokan is located in a geothermal area, with a number of hot springs nearby for guests to relax in. This property is a real gem. Located in a quiet location away from the busy tourist hub. We had a car so it was perfect for us but you might need to explore your options if using public transport. The owner Yoshi and his wife Aya are amazing. Yoshi is a real foodie and so also doubles as the chef with a focus on a fusion between Japanese and Western meals. The food was awesome and delicious. Yoshi also gave us some very helpful suggestions during our stay which were all great and enabled us to have the best possible time. We only stayed a couple of nights but when we left we felt like family. I can highly recommend this delightful and charming private hotel and I would love to return one day. I would count our stay here as one of the highlights of our holiday in Japan.

Teiensaryo Yamanakako 3 stars

Yamanakako

Fitted with tatami (woven-straw) flooring and traditional futon bedding, each room features a flat-screen TV and air conditioning. A fridge is also provided, and guests can enjoy garden views. Bathroom and toilets are shared with other guests.

The ryokan is a 5-minute walk from Lake Yamanaka. Both Fujikyu Highland Amusement Park and Gotemba Premium Outlets Shopping Mall are within a 30-minute drive. The owner and his family were super welcoming and friendly. The place looks a bit old as the business has been running for a long time, but for us that's what a traditional Japanese inn should be like and thus it was just great. It's a few minutes walk from the lake as well. The hot bath was a big plus after a long day outside during winter. The food was amazing! Better to check their website for more information and contact the owner directly to make a reservation :)
