A very enjoyable experience all round. The welcome and introduction to the hotel by the reception staff was brilliant and totally informative. The room was clean, spacious and the beds extremely comfortable.
This hotel with all the charm, character and quality that it offers gave us one of the best experiences we have enjoyed in quite a while.
The only down side for us was that we wish we had stayed for a couple of nights longer such was the enjoyability of The Vila Gale Collection at Elvas!
Located in the heart of Alto Alentejo and between Elvas and Badajoz, Quinta de Santo António offers elegant rooms with free Wi-Fi. It features an outdoor pool, and a tennis court.

Great location for trip to either or both fortresses. Very pleasant staff, though not English-speaking. Decent restaurant nearby, if the hotel restaurant is only functioning for breakfast.

The staff were very friendly & helpful.
The room & bathroom were spotlessly clean.
The bed and pillows were comfortable.
The hotel was located within a short walk to the "old town."
We found free parking in the street nearby.

Nice breakfast, with almost everything we can find on a Hotel breakfast. Nothing was surprizingly good, but nothing was bad. A regular breakfast.

Comfy guest house, super central location, everything at walking distance.
Just 5 km from the fortified town of Elvas, the recently refurbished Varchotel features typical Alentejo architecture. It offers bright rooms with modern décor and satellite flat-screen TVs.

The hotel is very well located in the town, it has excellent parking and great views out over the surrounding countryside.
I found the staff were very helpful in where to go & visit and provided annotated directions on a local map.
During my visit the restaurant wasn't open but there are plenty off options in the town

Off the beaten path, on the far East side of Portugal (nearly on the Spanish border). Friendly and interesting people, and interesting history to explore through castles, forts and a marvelous aqueduct.

Lots to see, so make sure you have comfortable clothing and shoes.
Like most Portugeus towns, it is very hilly with narrow streets and lots of steps.
Architecture is stunning and historic with plenty of stories of old.
More vegetarian/vegan restaurants would be a bonus.
The whole Alentejo region is a must-see when visiting this beautiful country.

Elvas is an historic old city with an amazing Roman aqueduct. The local restaurants were not catering for tourists and hardly anyone spoke English. We ate in the hotel which was good value in a lovely setting. We visited the British cemetery for the soldiers of the Peninsular War. The old town is is all cobblestone alleys and we kept getting lost but that was part of its charm.

This is a cool fort town on the Spanish border worth visiting. Great for practicing my Spanish and Portuguese. The old town is walkable and worth a day. Get a number of a local taxi service to explore the other two forts nearby, pick up groceries etc. Plan ahead of taking a comboio or autoexpresso as it's in a pretty remote location so you can't just catch a train out every 30 minutes like you can in Lisbon.
The region it is in, the Alentejo is also generally quite beautiful and it's worth taking a bus to Estremoz and the Evora if in the area.

A great small restaurant recommended by the Hotel was Mercato, is a perfect place to dine. Excellent service and food cooked to order with a lot of attention to quality and flavours.
The public rooms were magnificent...exquisite furnishings and decor...the ambient music, the scent. The garden and pool area was very serene and hard to believe you are in the center area or Elvas...easy access to the outside roads...staff was incredibly helpful and gracious. Pedro the concierge helped us with all our needs and Candida made us the perfect breakfast every day. We cannot wait to return!!!
Hello. My friend and I were in Portugal at the Elvas The Queen Residence hotel. We stayed there for 8 days. There we met the hotel employee Ricardo, who took the stress out of us after Spain, where no one speaks English. Ricardo advised us all the best and we want to wish you all the best. +351961939465. We wish you success. We respectfully share our excitement about Elvas.
Exceptional hosts/ owners that care about their establishment and the experience that guests will have of it and of the city. This translates into the quality of the rooms, the common areas and of the breakfast. It also leads to helping guests enjoy Elvas by making relevant individual recommendations and bookings. Highly recommended.
Hotel is an old estate house restored by the owners. Apart from the main building It has many little cute houses with apartments. The views and countryside around are beautiful. There are many walking options nearby. The owner is very helpful and informative. Breakfast was excellent. We stayed for a dinner, but we found it too rich.
Breakfast was great. Fresh orange juice, breads, pastries, hot eggs and bacon.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The gardens are gorgeous - faded elegance, a bit wild, and peaceful.
Our room was spacious, comfortable and well appointed.
A truly independent hotel, unique, with fascinating character and elegance.
We had a beautiful room with a great view of the city walls of Elvas. The hotel is an impressive historic building that forms part of the city fortifications. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Parking behind the hotel is excellent. Great place to explore Elvas and surroundings. We are happy to come back.
Everything is done with so much thought and care right down to the aroma of detergent of the towels. I decided to stay another night just to take it in a little longer. Ricardo and Phillip are the most wonderful and helpful hosts. I highly recommend this wonderful place.
This is a perfect spot for visiting Elvas…a peaceful and comfortable haven at a very fair price. The host is personable, the rooms are updated with nice bathrooms and linens. At breakfast we were served the best yogurt and orange juice we have ever had.
Great breakfast, clean rooms, there was no fridge in our bedroom but the staff put what we needed in theirs. The pool is clean but overcrowded sometimes. Free parking on the hotel site. You need 5 minutes by car to Elvas and 20ish minutes to Badajoz
Really enjoyed my stay with Hotel Rural Monte da Provença. It is situated in a big farm some distance from the main road. Ideal if you already forgot what the night sky is supposed to look like. Quite peaceful, quite nice.
Adelaide is a brilliant host. The hotel is very clean and the location is ideal to relax. Great stay. We had dinner in the hotel, and is like as we were at our grandma's house. And is pet friendl too. Brilliant. .
When we arrived we were greeted by the manger with hostility and a lack of civility because we spoke English and not Spanish. This place is in Portugal. When the son arrived he seemed lazy and unconcerned.
Good location just outside the old part of town, with parking available at the hotel. Breakfast was great. We met the owner at breakfast and he is lovely. The rooms are very clean and comfortable.
Great location for trip to either or both fortresses. Very pleasant staff, though not English-speaking. Decent restaurant nearby, if the hotel restaurant is only functioning for breakfast.
Good location ,lovely bed ,own parking area next to hotel, how it had been incorporated into an old building , nice grounds, large bedroom with French doors . Excellent breakfast
The location and the surrounding nature.
The swimming pool in the hot days.
The night sky since the place is isolated and there is very little light polution.
