The beautiful entrance/lobby. The rooms were clean and really wide. The staff was so welcoming and friendly. It's a bit outside of town and the hotel is in a more quiet area which we preferred.

Incredible experience from start to finish. I only stayed one night, but I felt immediately at home and could not have been happier. The private, in-room onsen was the highlight of the room without question. Such a wonderful way to unwind and I spent hours in there. They keep the onsen very hot, hotter than most I've been to, but it's easy to add cold water to cool it down and if you go too far, a call to the front desk will have hot water piping back in. I enjoyed soaking while watching the snow fall through the open window - and was very comfortable!
The room was extremely spacious with sliding partitions for each area, so if traveling with a partner or family, it would be easy to create privacy when needed. In-room amenities were great. Nice lotions, soaps, etc. Lighting in the room was very nice - I believe about 6 different settings you can choose from to create the mood you're looking for.
The meals were absolutely top notch and unforgettable, both the dinner and breakfast. I can't say enough good things but the food surpassed all my expectations. Simply lovely.
Checking in and out was very smooth and simple. It was easy to catch a taxi from directly outside Tobu Nikko station and when it was time to leave, the staff called a taxi for me.
Featuring an indoor and outdoor hot spring baths, 2 dining options and a terrace, Nikko Station Hotel Classic is located in front of JR Nikko Station. It offers cosy rooms with free WiFi access.

This is my second time to Nikko but this time doing an overnight stay in Nikko and then then one night in Kinugawaonsen. And we did the Sengyogahara hike with Yunoko falls, Kegon falls and Chuzenji Lake besides exploring the Toshogu shrine. The Nikko pass is a value for money pass enabling us to explore the different places within Nikko and Kinugawaonsen. The timing was just right with the full blooms of sakura especially in the Toshogu shrine areas.

Most restaurants around Nikko Stations close early.
Most restaurants around Nikko Stations close early. Only a few are open after 7 pm. Beyond Central Nikko or in outer Nikko/ Oku-Nikko there are are more interesting scenic hiking trails and sightseeing spots. Need to plan as bus frequencies are affected by weather and waiting time can be long.

We visited quite a few places during our two week stay in Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto and then we took a two day bike ride from Imabari to Onomichi). Nikko was the most beautiful of the beautiful places we visited. Took a bus ride up the hill and hiked in the forest which boasts two types of bear, deer and monkeys. The temple was beautiful and we enjoyed trying local food. We each had a "Yuba set" at a local restaurant.

The rooms were freezing cold no heating and it was -5 inside the hotel. They provided us with one thin blanket nothing like advertised, the windows were open and unable to close. We are having to seek medical help as one of my friends has developed hypothermia. No food no drink and the toilet facility does not flush.
Said in advert the beds would be made up for us. After a vicious scolding by the owners wife we had to awkwardly make up our own beds with no instructions at all.
If you like being shouted at, sleeping on a solid cold floor with a stone for a pillow this is definitely the place for you.
Didn't really wanna even give the one star but no choice for 0*.

Nikko is a lovely small place.
Nikko is a lovely small place. The local Chinese on the high street has amazing food, it has a very small door and would be easy to miss, but make the effort to find it.
The temples are amazing, but I loved the mountains, if you like trekking then you will love Nikko.

Fabulous place to visit with the right balance between nature walks and temple and shrine visits. Our favorite visits were Toshogu and Rinno-ji Temples, a day trip to Chuzenji Lake and Kegon Falls with a walk towards the Italian and English Embassy residences was beautiful. If you still have time, the Imperial Tomozawa Villa is worth spending a couple of hours at. We did everything by bus and it was very well organised. Train station has convenient coin lockers for luggage and a Yamato counter to deliver your luggage at your hotel so you can start visiting without being troubled.
The location was great if you planned to hike the loop trail along the Nikko abyss. Hotel is right beside it! The private onsen was easy to reserve at no extra cost and very nice for relaxing alone. The wood features throughout are lovely with a large community area for relaxing. The rooms are small but the beds are cozy. We loved the tasty toasted pastry breakfast selections which went well with the good coffee. Friendly host gave us free parking after checkout so that we could walk around without rushing.
We had a brief but wonderful stay. Comfortable and spacious, great location close to town/trains/buses/food. The host were the best part. So kind and thoughtful. They provided us with so many useful tips for navigating the bus system, finding trails to hike, and making the most of our time in Nikko. Nikko is a great destination for those seeking a mix of Japanese history/culture and beautiful nature. If we return, and I hope we do, we would certainly stay at this location again. Thank you!
The open air bathtub was absolutely the best. We liked the forest location and used the local bus and hotel shuttle for transportation without any issues. We often saw deer and Japanese martens while sitting on our deck in the afternoon.
The evening beer and wine was a nice touch. Dinner was also amazing, like a multi course work of art. I needed training to know how to eat it though. The wait staff were really friendly and helpful. We didn’t do the breakfast.
Very friendly hosts who were very helpful and always greets us with a smile. Went out of the way to find us another hotel and drove us there because we missed out one night of booking. Reply our queries promptly. 5-star service. Lovely surroundings too. Just take note that the way to the accommodation is quite scary at night because there aren't many street lights on the way there. But according to the hosts, Nikko is very safe. Just remember to bring flashlight.
Onsens were beautiful. location is amazing. they provide a once daily free shuttle to and from the hotel and Nikko station. traditional Japanese meals were provided - I was vegan and they accommodated for that. Room was large and atmosphere was serene. Saw monkeys whilst I was in the onsen, had the onsen all to myself one morning. beautiful. staff don’t speak much English but provide friendly service all the same.
Our stay was wonderful. While the town itself is not exactly bustling, the hotel was excellent and easily accessible to nearby Nikko world heritage sites and hikes. The breakfast and dinner buffets were unbelievably wonderful filled with high quality Japanese delights. The rooftop onsen was gorgeous and updated. Our Japanese- style room was lovely and spacious. Highly recommend!
Very new and modern place. Dato san is a very charming and good host, it felt like home. The place has been newly renovated and is well equipped. The place to sleep is somehow a bit like a pod hotel with separated spaces, great for young folks and backpackers on a budget. Imaichi is one stop from Nikko and has plenty of restaurants, supermarkets, pubs, and more. Charming.
Great little hotel, convenient location for everywhere we wanted to visit whilst we were in Nikko. You didnt get to choose what you wanted for breakfast but it was not a problem as everyday you were greeted with fruit and yoghurt, soup, toast and a different main plate each day so we did not go without! Lovely place and would recommend!
Great capsule hotel.
I really liked the room that resembles a train compartment.
It has everything you need: a bed, wardrobe, TV, headphones, and a desk.
On the first floor, there's a room with a bath.
They also provide yukatas. Wonderful hotel.
If I'm in Nikko again, I will definitely come back.
Really loved my stay here! Not a new and shiny capsule hotel, but well-kept and lovely vibe. Incredibly convenient with station proximity. The staff were very helpful when I needed to find a pharmacy. I’ve lived in Japan before but never been to Nikkō, and this hotel made it a great experience.
My wife and I had a great time at Hotel Hanaan. Service was excellent, the food was AMAZING and rooms offered such a beautiful view of Lake Chuzenji. Onsen was great as well. Overall the stay here exceeded expectations and will definitely stay here again if we visit Nikko in the future.
Excellent Japanese breakfast beautifully presented. Mr. Izumi was kind, helpful and attentive. He picked us up and dropped us off at the train station and gave us suggestions for restaurants and for sightseeing in Nikko and the area. The property is in a beautiful location.
This part of our trip through Japan was the unexpected highlight of the whole vacation. Nikko is quaint and beautiful and the hotel was peaceful and relaxing. We had such a great time! The staff were very accommodating and kind to our kids as well.
Mike and his lovely wife were not only the best hosts imaginable, they also have a charming hotel situated at the literal best location in Nikkō.
Their little bar and restaurant was also very good.
Highly recommend!
The staff were incredibly helpful and thoughtful, the room was perfect, spacious, and the whole hotel was very clean. The location is fantastic if you plan to visit the famous Nikko temples and shrines!
The location is great just a stroll away from the Nikko Toshogu Shrine. We enjoy the traditional Japanese decor of the hotel, and sleeping in futons. The room is clean. The outdoor onsen is great.
Lovely riverside location with beautiful gardens and displays in the hotels.

The onsen was 👍, especially the “hot” outdoor bath in the morning.
Staff spoke English & were very sweet.
