"I only stayed at the hotel for a night before my flight the next day, so I didn't have high expectations for the room. However, this hotel exceeded my expectations - the room was pretty big, and the hotel even had a large bath (daiyokujyo), which made me feel extremely relaxed. I highly recommend it!"

Great place to unwind from the hustle and bustle of major cities in Japan, also a perfect jumping-off point for exploring islands in the Seto Inland Sea. It’s a bit sleepy and not tourist oriented, but that’s part of the charm. Plus, some of the best udon i’ve ever had.

Takamatsu is a wonderful city to explore, and it has famous sites such as Ritsurin Garden and Yashima Temple. It has lots of options for shopping and eating, and beautiful views from many locations. There's also an opportunity to take Udon making class and visit nearby islands. Udon and other local delicacies are easy to find and excellent.

Takamatsu - like the rest of Shikoku - is chronically overlooked by most tourists it Japan in favor of the traditional ‘Big Name’ places like Osaka & Kyoto, but that doesn’t make it any less deserving of your visitation. On the contrary, the fact there are relatively few tourists means you can enjoy it all to yourself!
For one, it’s easily accessible. Arriving from Okayama on the Shinkansen, take the Marine Liner and you’ll be there in an hour. Even better, the ride is amazing with the views from the Seto Sea bridges that you cross giving you phenomenal views of the waters and islands between Honshu & Shikoku.
Once you arrive, you’ll find everything is nearby: the compact city center means that most attractions are easily & quickly accessible, together with plentiful shopping & dining areas.
But best of all is the beauty you’ll find here: The waves of the sea lapping the shore, the views for miles around from the top of the Icon Tower, nearby islands you can explore with a short boat ride, and cultural attractions like Shikoku Village and Ritsurin Koen that easily rival anything you can find in Kyoto.
Takamatsu is a hidden gem that just happens to be on the side of Japan where tourists don’t tread. But as lamentable as it is that it doesn’t get its deserved recognition, the absence of tourists is a good thing in that you can enjoy it without having to worry about crowds!

The 'Ritsurin Garden' is probably the finest garden in Japan...
The 'Ritsurin Garden' is probably the finest garden in Japan and was my first 'target'. Although I arrived at 09:00 and spent over 4-hrs in the Garden, I only managed to take in the South Garden. I really should have allowed some extra time to complete the North Garden as well but tiredness and the need to continue on to other destinations prevailed. Please note that the garden opens at sunrise throughout the year; in September that means they open at 05:30am! Had I known that, I would headed there much earlier.
My second 'target' in visiting Takamatsu was to visit the latter temples (Temples 78 ~ 87) on the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Most of these (as well as Ritsurin Garden) are fairly accessible from the various lines of the Kotoden Electric Railway, so I would recommend purchasing day passes for frequent travel on the Kotoden.

Naoshima, Teshima, Ritsin Garden, Takamatsu Castle are the sites to see in town and there are others in town as well. Surprisely, every major European designer has a store in this town as well. And there are other interesting towns nearby. Kurashiki and Kotahira are steeped in tradition with not a lot if Western travelers.

We had a lot of fun driving over the huge bridges to get there, and were so surprised at the size of this town/city! It was a lot bigger than expected and took some time to actually reach the hotel! This isn't really reflected in the map! We could have stayed much longer to enjoy the scenery and city but hadn't planned it in itinerary. So, I can't comment well on what it has to offer as we were time poor. But, driving thru and staying for a night was a very enjoyable experience using both bridges to the island! A lovely area.
The hotel was only a short walk from the train station and located on the main boulevard. The room was reasonably large in size and the bed was comfortable. The location was close to the covered shopping streets that extend for a considerable distance with numerous dining options. There is a fairly good breakfast buffet available at an additional cost in the restaurant downstairs.
A short walk from Takamatsu Port / Station / Castle, this is a top notch business hotel. We took the Lounge option which provides great value for the spend - late afternoon snacks & drinks, and a pretty amazing breakfast spread. The rooms are good size and have all the required amenities expected in Japanese business hotels. Quite a few good restaurants close by.
The breakfast selection was pretty good. The hotel have a selection of various pillows for you to take to your room (you will likely need to take one). The staff member on the desk was very polite, too. The place is close to Kotoden Kawaramachi station (short ride from Takamatsu-chikko station, nearby the JR station) for quick access to the port.
The place had what we needed. We stayed in the family suite which included the whole upstairs area with the bathroom so it was nice to have that privacy. Not super central to Takamatsu but is close to the train station and to the port which was useful for us as we were travelling by ferry to nearby islands.
Location is good, just beside the shoutengai (shopping street). It's about 1km from Takamatsu station and from Ritsurin garden. The staff was great, I arrived a bit early (before check-in time) but allowed me to check-in anyway. Gave some recommendations on where to eat. The bed was comfy. Common kitchen.
The best capsule hostel I stayed at in my month in Japan! Loved the two capsule areas you get, where I could put my luggage in the workspace (or work) in one and sleep in the other! Very clean, nice toilets/bathroom/common spaces, and friendly owner - talking with her was one of the highlights of my trip!
Pretty much everything was good here, it is nicely located near the shopping area (moderate walk or short bus ride from train station), and everything was clean and modern. Great bathroom facilities in the dorms. Breakfast (extra fee) was excellent for both quality and variety.
The hotel is a 2-minute walk from the bus stop and a 25-minute walk from the JR station, situated in quiet but closer to the most sought-after shopping area in Takamatsu. Highly recommended for its service, room comfort and breakfast. We will stay here again.
lovely touch with the pajamas
so so friendly people
great location, near the train and near the arcade - the arcades are the best thing about Takamatsu as it is where all life happens
The club was excellent for little (tiny) snacks and drinks
Superb location right on the impressive plaza in front of Takamatsu station. And buses there too. Superb view of old castle ruins nearby and sea + city view. Very comfortable room for two, complete with pair of chairs and small table.
The winner here was our host Shin who went above and beyond in helping us organize our stay. He picked us up and dropped us off at the station and gave us lots of advice and recommendations.
Location was reasonably convenient to both Takamatsu stations and the shopping arcades. The hotel was reasonably new. Room was a bit on the small side but had all the amenities one needs.
The location is in walking distance from Takamatsu station. The building and room looks modern on the photos with self-services and information provided. It seems everything taken care.
The hotel was in a great location. Close to restaurants and near to the train station. The hotel was very clean and the staff were very helpful and efficient. Highly recommended
Location was excellent, close to train station, ferry station, restaurants, the local castle, easy access to sites. Simple but comfortable facilities, altogether a good stay
