Staff very attentive and very hospitable. Food is excellent. Property very well maintained and exude a tranquil charm as it’s located next to the river. Love the onsen spa pool. They have public onsen pool and private onsen pool which needs reservation in advance. Overall my family enjoyed our stay here and we highly recommend it.

I did a one day trip, I went there just because of the naturals onsen, and it was the best decision, I arrived about 10:00 at leave at the same time of the next day. Honestly I don't think is a trip for more than 3 days.
Gero is a beautiful city, it has a few museums that can be seen in one period of the day. As the city is small, it doesn't need car or bus to go around if no one has fiscal disabilities.
This was my second time at Japan, and I regret not going to Gero the first time as well.

Out of all the places we ate in, I think we enjoyed eating in Unasho the most. They serve unagi, which is a specialty of Nagoya, their neighboring prefecture. There are some negative reviews about unasho, about how it's not value for money, but I don't think so. On our return trip, we passed through Nagoya station and ate in one of the famous unagi places in Nagoya called Maruya Honten. We preferred the unagi from Unasho, it was cleaner and prepared better because you felt the fishbones less in your mouth when you chewed.
The hot pudding from Yuamiya was TO DIE FOR. We came back twice to the shop during our trip so that we could eat it again and again.

If you love pudding, onsen or frogs, Gero is definitely the place to stay! The hot Hida milk pudding is absolutely delicious. There is a cute little frog shrine and lots of frog related souvenirs, cookies and street decor. There are public foot baths, great hot sprins and enough places to get a decent snack.
I can highly recommend La Vita e Bella. This is an italian place in Gero. The staff were absolutely adorable. They spoke English really well and they actually had a proper English menu.

In Gero itself there are just a few sights to go to. However you can easily stay there to discover Takayama or other close sights. Also there are every hot springs were you can either dip in your feet, hands or just jump in with whole body.
The location.
The staff - probably top of my list on all the hotels I have been to.
The building inside was incredible. An indoor and an outdoor public bath - spotlessly clean. I took a bath just after dawn in the outside onsen. The sound of the river and the chirping of the birds was exquisite and set me up for the day.
The private dining room for all guests. The member of staff who served us.
Why go to the commercial onsen when this might be a possibility?
We will be back.
The price is an absolute steal. Although the building exterior is completely modern and the lobby area/staff feel more like a normal business hotel, the room and onsen facilities themsleves are of equal quality to more expensive ryokans. Although I did not get the evening meal, it would have still been very affordable, and the room was extremely nice, spacious, and comfortable. The onsen is quite nice, even if the outdoor bath part is a little bit small.
-great hospitality, able to communicate in Eng or using gg translate.
When we were leaving, they even came outside to say goodbye ,also standing and waving until our car gone.
- This hotel has to carry suitcase up one floor, but they helped to carry all the way in and out.
- Big private dinner and BF room for each family.
-River view from the room.
-Coin laundry nearby outside the hotel.
-Quiet area at night.
Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, food was excellent and fairly priced with options for cheaper meals as well as more gourmet options. Facilities were great, the three on-site onsens available were all easy to get to and well sized (my favourite was the open air onsen). The free samples of snacks from the gift shop were a really nice touch and were refilled every morning. All around amazing experience.
We liked everything. The room bath, the public baths, the foot bath, the staff, the garden, everything was perfect!! The room was very spacious, and the view…
If you don’t book the dinner don’t worry, you will not be hungry as there is a small restaurant in the hotel with a few dishes (snacks) on the menu and it’s not as pricy as that fancy Japanese dinner (but it’s probably not as big either :D)
Cutest little guesthouse that was far away enough that it was nice and quiet but close enough that you could still go to the restaurants and onsens. They are very friendly and accommodating for me and my sister (who is blind). The staff speak English very well, one of the girls even helped us read the omikuji we got at Onsenji temple when we came back from it.
Loved everything!!! We had a lady from Napal that was our room attendant. She was absolutely wonderful and very kind. She set up our meals and helped us to understand hotel. All staff were wonderful. This town is so cool to visit. Next time we will come in summer to visit other little mountain towns nearby. Make sure you get the hot pudding!!!
Breakfast and Dinner that in included in the room package is excellent。 There was plently of food every meal. It was definitely a eye opener for traditional Japanese food.
We travelled with 3 young kids and they provided diaper bins, kids shower gel, toothpaste, kids yukata. I am surprised by how kids friendly the resort are.
Friendly staff who did their best to delight guests. They informed us of fireworks and we caught it from the hotel garden. That was a nice surprise! The garden is lovely too. I also enjoyed both the public outdoor onsen and private bath (cypress onsen) . Very relaxing.
Spacious rooms. Luxurious traditional Japanese breakfast/dinner with various side dishes. Ultra clean onsen, both indoor and outdoor. Extremely courteous and polite staff. Nice location, few minute walk from Gero station with many shops nearby.
This was a great find! The location, facilities, staff and breakfast was excellent. The Onsen was outdoor and had a beautiful garden setting. The check-in was very personable and informative about what to see and where to eat. We will return.
Conveniently located; large onsen pool with outdoor section; superb Japanese style dinner and breakfast; yukata provided was very comfortable to wear; polite staff; table tennis facility; free shuttle bus and taxi service
traditional hotel with history. nice Japanese garden. onsen was good, with indoor and a relatively large outdoor onsen. room was spacious with separate living room area. half board included and food is very nice.
Very clean. The room is spacious. Love the 3 onsen in the hotel. Breakfast was excellent, lots of variety & choices. Dinner was really good! Excellent service!!
