Posizione, cortesia, colazione, ristorante, camera
Located just across the lagoon from the Venetian islands, Mestre is the mainland part of Venice and offers cheaper accommodation, with easy transport links to the historic centre. However, the city has more than just cheap hotels going for it.
Host to several festivals throughout the year, huge Parco San Giuliano offers fantastic views across the lagoon towards the Campanile and dome of St Mark’s Cathedral. Also worth a wander round is Forte Marghera, a former Austrian fortress on an island in the middle of star-shaped canals. One canal continues into the centre of the city and is lined with restaurants and bars.
Pavement cafes can also be found in Piazza Ferretto, a triangular square with a 12th-century clock tower at one end and the Teatro Toniolo at the other. This popular spot for a passegiata also has a modern fountain and several boutiques. Also good for shopping in Mestre is the Le Barche centre, a rather uninspiring building from the outside, but packed full of stores.
As for nightlife, Mestre has a number of clubs, including one at Tessera near to Venice Marco Polo Airport. Don’t fly out of there without having tried the little homemade cakes called ‘mignon’.

Mestre is a small place, there’s no Uber app so you need to go with the public transport all the time. The locals don’t speak English, get a wifi connection at the center where is the train and bus station and search for bus number that will take you close to your hotel.
It’s a nice town as long you get used with the way in and out. You can arrive around 15 mins to Venice from the city center w/ bus number 2.

I stayed in Mestre as the base to travel to Venice. It was the best move. Avoid paying too much for the Venice hotels. Stay close to Mestre train station and you could be in Venice in 10 minutes. Enjoy the best of both worlds.

We only had a three night stay at the Hotel Delfino in Mestre
It is the perfect position for a value for money ,easy base to visit Venice from.
Unfortunately we did not have time to visit Mestre itself as our focus was always towards Venice.
Mestre is a very short journey by bus two and from the airport and stops outside the hotel which means your holiday can begin within the hour. Perfect. The supermarket was well stocked with anything you should need. With places to eat and regular buses to move around or by foot

This is the second time I have stayed in Hotel Garibaldi, it maybe a small hotel but has a huge heart! Luigi and his colleagues are so kind and helpful and show interest in how you spend your time. The No.2 bus stops right outside to take you to the centre of Venice. Hotel Garibaldi is excellent quality for a a very reasonable price, breakfast will set you up for the day. I will be back again soon!!

Mestre is close to Venice and a much cheaper alternative...
Mestre is close to Venice and a much cheaper alternative though you definitely miss out on the old, traditional feel of Venice (I had stayed in a hotel in Venice another time and it was wonderful there). If you eat in Mestre, it's much cheaper. We ate at 'Da Michele'. Excellent food, very good value for money. We did not have any time to explore Mestre per se, though.
Campanile Venice Mestre is a big, modern, well designed hotel located in an excellent position. It is a few meters away from the Mestre railway station and also the bus stop and the airport bus as well. So, you get out of the hotel and in a less than 1/2 hour you are in Venice!
The room was spacious enough, clean, the beds and mattresses were comfortable, the bathroom very big and practical.
Overall, it was a very good experience and i highly recommend it!
everything was excellent! The room’s was very clean and comfortable, the staff cleaned the room every day. The staff was so nice and enthusiasm, satisfied all of our requests and questions, also guided us how to travel around just like a tour guide. You can also buy “venezia unica city pass” tickets to use all of transportation around Mestre and Venice. The breakfast included in our stay was very delicious and the dinner was nice too.
Lovely quaint neighbourhood with pedestrian roads, sidewalk restaurants and bars. Quiet and did not feel touristy like Venice.
Very easy to get to Venice via bus or tram. 5 minute walk to bus/tram stop and about 15 minutes direct to Venice Pizzale Roma.
Bus to airport was simple. 5 minute walk from airport to the stop. 20 minutes ride.
Highly preferred staying in Mestre rather than the busy, overpriced Venince hotels.
I can't say enough about the helpfulness of the staff. The airline lost our luggage for 19 days. We went ahead on our tour. Hotel Venezia accepted our luggage when it turned up. We returned to Venice and took the contents (our bicycles). Our tire pump was broken, the staff set up their garage air compressor for us and then held the empty suitcases until we returned from our bike tour. Very accommodating.
If you wish to spend one night or a few days in Venice without breaking the bank, yet enjoying world-class amenities, a spacious room, and friendly, efficient service, look no further! Yes, you won't be sleeping right on the Canal Grande, but do you need to, when trains to/from Mestre Station (literally across the street from Hotel Bologna) run continuously and cost EUR 1.45 (one way)?
Very practical and clean hotel close to the Venezia Mestre train station. The staff is gentle and helpful, the room has quite a big size and the facilities were working perfectly for us, especially the wifi.
Definitely a great option if you would like to visit Venice by train from Mestre, getting some more relaxed vibes than in "The Serenissima". We'll be back.
Hotel Centrale is in a very good location in Mestre, 5 min walking to piazza Ferreto. Just across the street there is a bus stop with direct buses to Venice, and also the big supermarket Eurospar is just across the street. If you check out early, you can leave your luggage for free in a luggage room in hotel. Rooms were cleaned every day.
Located within walking distance from Mestre Bus Station. A good alternative to the expensive hotels on the island, and you are not very far actually from Venice itself. Just take the no. 2 bus that goes directly to the island. There are a few Halal restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel. There is also a laundry just next to the hotel.
This is my return visit to Hotel Regit and it was nice to be remembered by some of the staff. They were friendly as usual and I had a lovely time exploring Venice in winter.
The bathroom was a good size and I love all the touches that make the place so pretty.
This hotel is so ideally placed for exploring Venice, Marghera and Mestre.
We had a great time at Camping Venezia Village! The staff was great, speaking several languages and also our early check-out was no problem. The location itself is great, clean and has everything you need. A bus stop in front of the camping place brings you in around 10 minutes to Venice. Recommend staying there!
Very nice hotel, convenient location next to Mestre station and Venice. Clean room with comfortable bed. The only thing to improve would be to have a tea kettle in the room. It was very inconvenient to take the elevator from the 10th floor every time we needed hot water for a cup of tea.
It's a comfortable hotel with very clean rooms. Located close to the center of the city Mestre, 5 min walk to the bus station from which you can go to Venice (it takes 15 min). We were traveling with dog and kid. Dogs are welcome, the price for a dog stay is not high.
5 mins walk from Mestre train station.
Bus station to Venice is just behind the hotel.
They even packed our breakfast on our request, as we had to leave before 7AM.
Hotel was very clean.
Lady at the reception has very good attitude and tries her best.
Well located near the bus and train station. A train leaves every 10 minutes for Venezia…. My room was very quite. Room 809 to floor. Man they really don’t have any decent chairs in hotels in Italy!!! A mini fridge would also be nice….
Very kind staff at the reception (Venezia Hotel, nearby), you can buy tickets there to visit Venice. The transport (bus/tram) to Venice is just a walking distance. The flat is just in the centre, you can reach everything very easy.
Breakfast was good! They had a good selection of items, including American dishes which was nice after several weeks in Italy.
Another plus was how easy it was to take transportation to Venice Main attractions.
Room size is enough. The hotel is very near the train station (Venice Mestre) and the bus station (going to Venice). Clerk Elizabeth helped us get the card for the public transportation
Near to train station Venice Mistre
Host is nice and helpfull
near to supermarket, all food item available (one of the best cheap price found in italy)
very comfortable
Perfect location for a budget visit to Venice. Bus stop about 15m away with services to Venice and Mestre Station. Breakfast available at sister Hotel in next block.
