The Hotel had great facilities and walks around the golf course in the grounds so we did not venture out much. We drove through Ballyconnell on our Way up to Marble Arch Caves which was a 35 Minute drive from the Hotel and is well worth a visit.

Ballyconnell is very small but it's in a naturally beautiful and historical area. There are lovely loop walks around the town and along the river. Do some research beforehand and plan a few stops on route to explore the area (i.e. the Cavan Way, Cavan Burren Park, the various caves and forest parks and lakes nearby). There are some hidden gems and it's well worth it. For most of these, you will need a car though. It's ideal for people who just want to switch off for a few days.

Location staff amenities bedrooms are all great.
Location staff amenities bedrooms are all great. There was entertainment on both nights. Very friendly homely feel to the Hotel. Quality of food especially vegetables on the night we ate there did not meet expectations for the price we paid in the Conal Cearnach Restaurant.

Lovely local town, with kids planning ahead would be necessary to entertain them. Not far from Cavan town, Enniskillen also. Lots of local lakes and Slieve Russell hotel very close. Lough Key Forrest Park is about 40 mins away in Leitrim and great for a day out.

Slieve Russell is located about 3 miles outside Ballyconnell...
Slieve Russell is located about 3 miles outside Ballyconnell, Ballyconnell is a small town with a small number of shops, pubs/ restaurants, and a church and school. It also has a lovely river walk. The grounds attached to Slieve Russell hotel are quite extensive. There is a 3km (approx ) beautiful walk around the lake which borders their championship golf course. There is also a smaller golf course within the grounds, as well as at least two tennis courts. The pool is great for families. My wife enjoyed a fab 'facial' in their CIUIN spa. We stayed two nights, and never left the hotel environs, as we had everything we needed on site. There are also lots of places of interest to visit locally or within 30 minutes by car.
The cottage is along a very nice, but narrow, country road and only a couple of miles from the Slieve Russell Hotel.
We were at a family wedding there and stayed in Wisteria Cottage as a party of 5 ( my wife, her 2 brothers and her mother.)
The cottage is really at the backdoor of the owners' home and the keys to the property were left in the door.
The cottage is very handy for anyone at a wedding in the Slieve Russell, but you still need to drive there.
Catherine was a wonderful host who went out of her way to help us even before we got there. Giving us directions and help with finding the church where the wedding ceremony was taking place. ( a lot of back roads ) and her husband very kindly dropped us back to the hotel to collect our car, nothing was too much. Would highly recommend Lake avenue house !
First class accommodation, very comfortable room and bed. Use of lovely communal lounge with tea/coffee facilities. Breakfast served in lovely dining room with delicious breakfast options. Great location within a few minutes drive to local restaurants/pubs and sightseeing at the local villages of Belturbet and Ballyconnell.
We are 3 retired siblings who all felt this accommodation was 5 stars. The host was welcoming, positive and helpful. The House was beyond clean / spotless from the bathroom,, comfortable beds and linens to all the surface areas. The breakfast was wonderful, again something you expect from 5 star hotel.
Beautifully located in the middle of the forest (but close by other lodges so not scary). A 10 minute drive from the Slieve Russel hotel which is great for a nice lunch. The cabin is really cosy and homely and clean. The phone coverage is patchy meaning lots of great conversation without distraction.
Wonderful gem situated in the heart of Cavan. Sheila and staff were wonderful, made us feel right at home. If you’re travelling through and looking for a nice quiet stay, you’d be missing out if you didn’t come here. oh, did I mention the food is also amazing? thank you so much- we will be back :)
Beautiful hotel lots of facilities nice walks around golf course staff very friendly and accommodating
Entertainment at weekends .. fantastic food…environmentally aware.. no bottles of water in room just fill a jug of fresh cooled water at a station on corridor.. very good idea!!
We were well received slightly earlier than planned but welcomed nevertheless. Very pleasant hosts. Breakfast next morning was Excellent. Room very clean and well appointed. lovely location and very handy for wedding reception at Slieve Russell hotel nearby.
Absolutely loved our stay at Slieve Russell the staff were so friendly and helpful. The overall atmosphere was unbelievable. The hotel rooms and bathrooms were spotless with Ritual amenities, Will definitely go back the food was gorgeous too
