A Bridge to the Past
Regensburg’s cobbled streets, colourful façades and step gables constitute Germany’s best-preserved medieval centre. A 12th-century stone bridge crosses the Danube River between the UNESCO World Heritage-listed old town and islands forming the Stadtamhof district.
Regensburg was an important trading centre and its wealthy merchants built tall towers, such as the Goldener Turm, to outdo each other. The dual spires of its Gothic cathedral tower over red roofs sheltering pavement cafes, traditional bierkellers and modern bars.
Niedermünster abbey also has square towers, while the Alte Kapelle’s most impressive feature is intricate gold interior detailing. Nearby Neupfarrplatz houses the annual Christmas markets, while the old town hall is on Kohlenmarkt. Just down the street a large David and Goliath mural adorns a house.
A plaque outside a more modest house marks Oskar Schindler’s former home. Much grander is Schloss Thurn and Taxis, an 8th-century monastery converted to a noble residence. At the eastern end of a park encircling the historic centre is a villa built for King Maximilian II of Bavaria, overlooking riverboats which cruise past a more outlandish royal creation – Donaustauf’s Walhalla monument, resembling a Greek temple.
Booking.com offers a great range of Regensburg accommodation including 4-star hotels with spas, cheap apartments and guest houses near the train station.
We loved Regensburg. It is a beautiful, quite city with friendly people, great food, and reasonable amount of traffic. Our visit was very plesant. Nothing went wrong. Dining in the restaurant and shopping in the supermarket are both quite cheap.

I travelled to Regensburg every month for 15 years working and never tired of the city. We still visit every December to meet old friends and enjoy the Christmas ambience.
Plenty of traditional Bavarian restaurants - my favourites being Hacker Pschorr and Dicker Mann - but lots of modern places as well
A beautiful old city centre - exactly how you would envisage a traditional Bavarian city. Not to be missed

Regensburg is a wonderful medieval town.
Regensburg is a wonderful medieval town. The entire old town is easily walkable and there are so many ancient homes/buildings to see. Get a local guide so you don’t walk right past something incredible without realizing.

Beautiful old town, compact, easy to walk everywhere.
Beautiful old town, compact, easy to walk everywhere. Nice restaurants and cafes with great views. There are almost no cars in the old town and it makes it a good experience. The city has a very interesting history. Little shops with all kinds of things. Well worth a nice weekend.
Had very good dinner at Al Camino pizzeria+Peppers mexican- those two places make one restaurant on Haidplatz - and they have tasty tank beer!
We took a 45 min tour via the electric train (leaving every hour from the Domplatz at the cathedtral. The audio guide (in 6 languages) was informativre and fun.
It was what we (two adult couples) needed. A large, comfortable, no frills apartment to rest a few days after 12 days on the road. Easy access from the north side of Regensburg. We were there during the massive snowfall in Germany (Dec. 2023) so did not use nice garden with grill-platz. Parking was easy and ample, though a short walk to the house. Well-appointed kitchen. Large bathroom. Large rooms. Good heat. Washer and dryer were appreciated!
Exceptional hotel in every way highligted by one of the friendliests staffs we have ever encountered including Olga and Martina at the front desk and the housekeepers all who are eager to provide service for any requests.A .very clean and efficient hotel located a short walk between the central rail station and the old town and Danube .And a great bakery aross the street.A most pleasant stay and now a personal favourite.
Ideal location if you are traveling to visit the old town. The brekfest is served in hotel’s cafe open to everybody at not only for guest which is a plus. The food was very nice and tasty. Since the hotel is located in old town it was a bit tricky to get there with a car but the stuff was very helpful.
Rooms were clean, location of hotel is perfect on border of old town so you can walk all over old town without taxy. Breakfast is also great. There is underground parking in hotel courtyard, but it is paid additionally 13€/day. No charger for electric cars in garage unfortunatelly.
We enjoyed their breakfast very much. The hotel is great location with clean spacious room (a little outdated..), right next to the old stone bridge, just few minute walk to old town. We will definitely come back to this hotel.
Lovely hotel right next to the river, beautifully decorated room. Even thought I arrived late, and there was nobody at the reception, I got clear instructions how to get in. I was travelling with my dog, he liked it too :)
Check in staff very friendly. The hotel is clean and offers you a comfortable stay. The restaurant is nice and serves good food. All in all good value for money. Can recommend this hotel. 10 min. walk from old town.
We went just for an overnight stay during our long trip through Germany.
Everything was just as you (tired traveller) would need it to be: welcoming smile, clean, quiet room, hassle free check-in and out.
The location of the hotel is really good, at the center of Regensburg old town in a beautiful square. The room was spacious and clean. They allowed us to get my road bike inside the room.
This is a classic Ibis Hotel, with nice, clean rooms, and everything you can expect from the famous hotel chain. It is ina very good positions, at a 14 minutes walk from the city center.
Excellent location, room was spacious and clean. Parking in the basement was a bonus. Bus stop outside the hotel to take you into the old city centre was convenient.
Breakfast was insanely good and so much, the location is extremely central, as soon as we exit the hotel we are in the Altstadt, and the room was very cozy
