The property is set in the middle of the jungle right in the middle of the wildlife. The trees were full of wild monkeys which we watched from our balcony (at tree level) for hours.

Wonderful welcome, great location with outstanding facilities and extremely helpful staff. The main attraction is the national park, where there are a lot of options for more or less demanding activities from a gentle boat trip to a two-day hike through the jungle. The rangers are brilliant. in town there are restaurants ranging from cheap to high-end, elegant handicraft shops, elephant parks, ayurvedic massage places - whatever you fancy, really. The weather is benign, as it's quite elevated. Transport connections (by bus) are pretty good from the central bus station. There are also western-style cafes where you can hang out and read; Wildernest is green and peaceful, while Chrissie's even has cappuccino!

It's a calm and serene destination, not like other hill stations.
I am a regular at Grandma's kitchen. It's a simple place nothing fancy but great local food. Kumily / Thekkady is not a huge place so getting around is easy. It's a cozy little town to chill if you don't want to run around sightseeing

Thekkady can be explored in two to three days. Enjoy nature walk but sighing of animals is very rare. There are huge trees which are appx 500 years old.
Travelers can enjoy local cuisine and elephant ride. There is opportunity to watch Kalaripayattu ( martial art) and Kathakali performance.

Absolutely stands as a demonstration for the saying “God’s own country”. Serene and bountiful of nature and some good species of wild life. The Thekkady boat trip is a ‘never-miss’ activity and the early morning off-roading trip in Mahindra Commander SUV 🚙 is phenomenal. Great place for a vacation with family and friends. One of the treasures ie the Periyar Tiger Reserve Forest. Don’t miss. I just crossed off one number in my bucket list. But beware of scammers. They are all over there.
The house is located very close to major tourist attractions and still is in a quiet lane, which was the most important for me. Every morning you get up to the bird calls in the vicinity..The landlady Mrs. Shyama is very sweet, humble and approachable person who even offered to wash and dry my clothes. For food you have to look nowhere as just in the neighbourhood there is an awesome cafe whose food is delicious. Overall a must stay place in Thekkady!
Lizzy and Antony were great hosts to us! We had an amazing cuisine and cultural experience in Thekkady, thanks to them! They helped us with securing tickets to kathakali, local martial art show, tea plantation & spice tour, and Kerala Ayurvedic massage. The house is beautiful and is located amidst cardamom plantations. The rooms are large with comfortable beds and balcony overlooking the plantations. We will definitely come back! Thank you!
A new hotel in a prime location! The staff was exceptional! Food at the restaurant was solid. If you are visiting Periyar National Park and have signed up for the nature trails or hikes, the meeting spot is actually outside of the park, walking distance from this hotel. We made the mistake of staying inside the park - wouldn’t recommend it. Accommodations were over double the cost of Keys and pales in comparison
George is a very friendly and helpful host. He assisted us in securing tickets to Periyar National Park, as they do not accept foreign bank cards. Breakfast is hearty and delicious. Dinner is a more simple affair, but the food is good nonetheless. Our room (Mango) was spacious and had amazing views. While we were there, two new rooms were nearly finished. This is a great home stay for the Thekkady area.
Everything about this homestay was awesome. The owner Mr. Dexter and his wife are very amiable people, and very very helpful. They gave us many helpful suggestions to visit the places in Thekkady.
The morning tea and coffee provided by Mr. Dexter were very helpful and a good booster for us to start the day.
We will come back to Ferndale again if we visit Thekkady again.
Thank you Mr. Dexter. :)
The property is very sprawling.
The room (cottage) was very cosy with all committed facilities.
The staff were very very good.
The property is in the heart of the city, but away from the din and bustle.
The Kerala bus stand for booking Periyar boat rides , etc . is very close to the hotel.
Even the booking counter for Gabi forest Jeep tour is very near.
There are good food joints near.
Suresh is a great host, kind and helpful without being pushy. The room was a good size, the bed comfortable and the water hot. We had an enjoyable stay in Thekkady, largely down to the activities suggested by Suresh which we thoroughly enjoyed. We felt very much at home. Grandma’s café a few doors down quickly became our local 🙂
Location is 12 to 14 KMs away from Thekkady. But the apartment had all the facilities including a kitchen with all utensils, kettle, gas stove, induction cooker. 2 bedrooms with bathrooms (1 had a queen bed + children bunk bed for 2, 2nd had a queen bed)+ 1 hall + open Kitchen. Ample car parking.
Fantastic ambience , good food decent staff and room service overall this place is very good visit during summer as well . my family had a very nice time in and around. Periyar birds hospitality is a must be experienced in a thekkady . thoroughly enjoyed my stay at periyar birds resort
Beautiful place a bit outside the village of Thekkady. We stayed at the treehouse. The host was very welcoming and the home made food was one of the best we had during our trip in India. The location was very peaceful and we had the best nights sleep.
The idea of the tree house is very cool and it really feels like you're in the middle of the forest. There's also a hanging bridge to go for breakfast which makes the experience more adventurous, and I could record some nice shots with the drone.
They were extremely accommodating and allowed us to check in early at like 10am. We got to hotel super early and I didn’t wanna wait. So this was a big plus. The sevice was exceptional as well. Would definitely send a friend there.
Nice clean place at economical rate. Hot water, wifi availability. Proximity to main road, tourist centers, shops, restaurants.
Host, Mr. Santhosh and his family were very courteous and informative about what to do in Thekkady.
Great location to explore the local area of thekkady. The hotel is situated in a beautiful spot that allows for great views and sunsets. The facilities are great at the hotel, Food at the two restaurants is also very good.
The hotel is very good, clean and at the centre of the city,The very good restaurant on the ground floor,The hotel manager arranged all sightseeing at reasonable cost, good car parking is there
Comfortable, large room and friendly staff. Great breakfast and dinner at the hotel available. Staff is also helpful with for example booking a taxi or advice on activities in Thekkady.
Well maintained and peaceful property. Great host and service provided. Very near to all main attractions in thekkady. Rooms have balcony which is add on to this beautiful stay.
Their services was awesome. Food is tasty. Friendly atmosphere. When you visit 1 time then you would like to visit it again. I am fully satisfied with this hotel.
