We liked that we could use the facilities at Mareta Beach Boutique (e.g., the swimming pool) and the facilities at their sister hotel, Mareta View, which is close by. The breakfast is excellent.

Sagres is at the very western tip of the Algarve and has few retired expats and no package holiday makers. Its a small Portugese community with lots of young people and independent travellers who mix well and many come to surf and walk. Its got some great bars along the top of Mareta beach and people come here to do their own thing, enjoy the wild and rugged Atlantic coastline and the towns like Carrapateira, Bordeira and Aljezur

A great laid back, small, surfing resort, suitable for families, couples and individual travellers. You can get there on busses from the airport at Faro, changing in Lagos, although hiring a car would be much quicker.
The beaches, bars and restaurants are all great but the sea is quite cold, so bring a wetsuit.
You can hire bodyboards, surfboards and wetsuits on the main surfing beach at Tonel.
You can also hire bikes from local shops and cycle out to the lighthouse at Cabo da Sao Vicente. If you want to go further, there is a track across the cliffs to a local village, Vila do Bispo, although it is hard work against the strong winds, up a steady incline. Allow 2 hours from Sagres but it's much quicker coming back.
The fort is worth a visit, with a circular clifftop walk and a museum.
There is also a path for clifftop walks in Sagres.

A great base to either stay in and relax or go and explore the west coast.
Great sea food to be had and if you explore further afield you’ll discover some gems.
I’m not going to spoil your adventure so you can find them yourself.

Sagres is an amazing place to visit if you are looking for stunning views of the Algarve and the ocean, I would recommend you to go with someone, doesn’t seem REEEEALLY for solo traveling, but it’s up to you. Maybe you find love there.
Also the city is so beautiful and looks like a beach village, which I love when I’m traveling. Run away from the big cities and stuff.
It’s also good for surfing if you are up to.

Sagres is a sanctuary in Nature and the importance that Portugal had in its history at a time when the known world was divided by the Portuguese, Spanish and English courts.
You breathe pure air and feel the ghosts of good people from the past and the hustle and bustle of crowds of sailors and discoverers who set out to sea with joy in their hearts and enough daring to face the unknown.
Sagres means sacred ... Holy ground
For those who have awakened their inner spirit and Love, they will feel beautiful emotions to the point of tears of joy in their eyes.
In short, there is the Algarve with excellent beaches and hotels.
And there are Sagres! A mecca of Biodiversity, Emotions, Love, Spirituality.
It also has the best sunset on Cape S. Vicente.
There is magic and peace in a perfect symbiosis between the sunset and the people who nestle on the cliff in silence until the sun crosses the horizon line into the sea.
A Must to experience in a life time!
Everything was great!
We were welcomed with our dog, last minute, and were very comfortable.
Since we didn't plan to stay in Sagres, for us the location wasn't great, but we managed to enjoy it because of the very friendly staff and facility.
We miss the morning Portuguese nata pastry given for free 😊
When staying there, don't hesitate to ask for anything you might be missing - they will do their best to get it for you 👍
We were there in April this year (2022) with our little 3-Year old son. Luckily we had the double rooms with view on the harbour where we could see the sunset every day.
The hotel over exceeded our expectations! It's beautifully designed, the food was great and it's perfectly located between beaches and the city of Sagres. Plenty of space to move around and nice facilities for the kids.
We will definitely come back!!!
It's a really nice and comfortable place to stay at :) I already regret that I left and want to go back :D the guests and the hosts are all really kind... it's a very calm and quiet place but still very easy to get in contact with other travellers :) I think for me it's the best hostel in Portugal so far! But don't come here if you want to party :D come to relax and enjoy the very calm atmosphere :)
First of all I want to express my gratitude for the hotel, which changed our booking very fast and on a short notice - extended stay and replaced from the family room to two separate rooms. Both rooms were good size, clean, cozy and well furbished, had balconies. Plenty of car parking next door. Supermarket 50 meters away, restaurant street just around the corner.
Our room was more up-to-date than we expected based on the photos we had seen online and the bathroom / shower was the best of our entire trip (we stayed in 11 different hotels over two weeks). We loved the pool, the proximity to the beach, and the option for onsite dining. I'm happy we chose to stay here and would definitely return in the future.
INCREDIBLE VIEWS! Incredible sunset views from balcony and hot tub. Stunning visitas and superb and safe location. Gorgeous gardens with comfortable spaces to lounge and relax. Best place I’ve stayed in Portugal. The room has a spacious balcony with stunning ocean views and you can lay in bed while watching colorful sunrises over the beach.
The home is big, confortable, clean and the location is perfect, close to the city center, supermarket and the beach. David is a great host, very accommodating and helpful to visit and surf in the area. We spent a week and had a great time in Sagres, surfing at the praia do tonel and visiting the Algarve region.
Cute little hotel just above the beach in a quiet town of Sagres. We had a spacious room with big balcony and great view. There is very nice pool area. No need to go far for a drink or dinner, there is pizzeria and coffee shop in the house. Breakfast is good. Free parking on the street, enough space at any time.
after a busy Lisbon and Lagos this was something different. The Sagres with its beaches, waves, wildlife and people not rushing but living the moment was something special for soul. Pontalaia apartamentos was a tidy, comfortable, clean, cosy small hotel.
we stayed in a deluxe studio with no shared walls. walking distance to any attraction in Sagres. Friendly host and complimentary wine bottle. Studio had all the necessities for a wonderful stay.
Excellent accommodation. Will be looking to book for next year. Lovely quiet location and access to resturants and beaches. Adore Sagres and Sagres Times was more than we expected.
The hotel ground is nice. There is a garden that people can lounge around. There is also a common kitchen that the guests can use, so I was able to make little snacks everyday.
Very nice and comfortable hotel. We had a room with a splendid sea view overlooking the Atlantic Sea. 5 min walk to the beach and morning bath.
Great breakfast included.
This hotel was fantastic! It was in a great location with a beautiful view. Comfortable, clean. Just excellent all around. The food was fantastic as well!
There is no other appartment closer to one of the nicest beaches in Portugal (Tonel Beach) than this one. The location and staff are more than excellent.
