If you are looking for an off the grid place to stay and discover the Dambulla area, I highly recommend the Vihanga Village. A family run place where they even provide the best breakfast ever. The Sambol is to die for with bread. The owner was such a good human that would check on us each morning and provided whatever we asked for. One of our group member had to go to the hospital late night, the owner while being sick himself, drove us to the hospital. I would go back to @vihangavillage each time I am back in the area. A beautiful cabin nestled in the woods. A true natural gem!

Austria
We stayed at Gaia Lake Bungalows for one week and had an excellent time. You can rent the whole villa and enjoy a really unique private experience in this central region of Sri Lanka. The villa is located directly at the beautiful Kandalama Lake (with a stunning view on the lake) and is certainly one of the best locations you can choose for exploration of the cultural triangle between Polonaruwa, Anuradhapura, Kandy and Dambulla, including Sigiriya. Sarath, the private cook will introduce you to the various flavours of traditional Sri Lankan food and Darshi the manager kindly supports any kind of arrangements you may need. We booked the entire villa for only 3 persons but there is plenty of room for 6 persons or even more. Moreover a large swimming pool is available for exercise or relaxation after excursions. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Wonderful place. Sooo delicious food for a good price. You definitely should try it. By a lake and try goings to its island. Its a small island, great place for relaxing and so peaceful. So nice and lovely staff.

We loved touring the land and gardens . Being taken to the local river by Pradeeps brother. Our teenagers loved the thrill of this experience! We loved long conversations with Pradeep. Getting to know more about his local village and village life. I will never forget moonlight jumping !!! I would highly recommend this place.

The location of Kandalama lodge is great if you want to visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Sigirya and Pidurangala. The lodge is cleverly designed, and well maintained. The garden is a quiet oasis, peaceful and beautiful. We stayed in both the deluxe villa with the private pool and the “regular” rooms. We enjoyed both. The staff made our stay even better. I’ve never seen a manager, cook and helpers so attentive in my life. I rarely rate a stay a 10/10 but they deserve it.

They were really spacious with a big bathroom with really comfortable beds and luxurious linen, we slept really well! The staff were very accommodating and looked after us brilliantly, allowing us early check in after a long flight from London and a 3 hour drive from Colombo. The villa inside is huge and clean, the bathroom is wonderful! The bed is super comfortable. Ac was working properly. All the villas are right next to a lake. Pure nature that surrounds you!
