Read moreThe best time to visit Brazil is from September to October. This lets you avoid the busiest holiday periods, the harsh winters in the south and the peak of the wet season. Brazil’s warmest months are also its wettest, so it’s generally best to avoid the high season between December and March, particularly if you’re planning on wildlife watching in the Amazon or the Pantanal, which are best visited between July and September. Rio’s world-famous Carnaval takes place in February or early March, and it’s without a doubt one of the most unforgettable parties you can attend. If you’re into windsurfing or kiteboarding, a trip to São Miguel do Gostoso, Taiba or Cumbuco offer great conditions between May and February.

Monthly weather and travel tips for Brazil
It's the peak summer season in January, and with average temperatures around 27ºC, it’s certainly worth considering a trip to the beach. However, it can get very rainy this month so be sure to check forecasts and figure out whether you’ll need a beach towel or a brolly.
The maritime procession in Angra dos Reis on 1 January is a great way to see in the new year, as thousands of boats parade along the water. Three Kings Day, celebrated on 6 January, brings celebrations featuring musical performances and dancing to many cities across the country. The warm January weather means this is a prime time to visit Rio and Copacabana which offer a party atmosphere without the heaving carnival crowds of February.

Brazil’s world-famous ‘Carnaval’ celebrations sweep across the country and swarms of beachgoers compete for the best spots to lay their towels. Crowd levels peak in February, but if you’re content to jostle, you’ll be able to attend one of the best parties on the planet. The weather remains hot and rainy with scorching temperatures up to 35ºC, so pack light layers and waterproofs.
Carnivals are held in lots of major cities like São Paulo and Salvador, but the most famous of all takes place in Rio de Janeiro. The event takes place in February or early March for the five days preceding Ash Wednesday. Join millions of revellers to watch the top dance schools in the country perform the samba during dazzling parades of colours, costumes and music.

It’s still high season in most of Brazil as temperatures continue to hover around 40°C. Carnival celebrations may still be occurring in major cities if Ash Wednesday falls in March, so be prepared for extra crowds if this is the case. If the latter celebration isn’t occurring, this month can be more pleasant if you just want to explore different parts of the country, but the possibility of summer storms means you’ll want to pack waterproofs and a good umbrella along with light layers.
The annual Brazilian Beer Festival takes place in Blumenau every March over four days, with homegrown and international breweries offering you the chance to try over 140 styles of beer. If there are no carnival crowds around, head to São Paulo to treat your palate to some of the best food in the country or soak up some of the 8,000 km of shoreline which includes wonderful spots like Alter do Chao in Pará or the volcanic archipelago of Fernando de Noronha.

As temperatures and crowd numbers begin to drop, April can be a very pleasant month to visit many parts of Brazil. The Pantanal enters its dry season towards the end of the month and Holy Week brings a host of religious celebrations, as well as a chance to try some homemade chocolate eggs. Heavy rain tends to continue in most regions and temperatures average between 18–31ºC.
While Holy Week festivities take place across the country, the celebrations in Ouro Preto in Minas Gerais are some of the most notable, as the city covers itself in flowers and colourful carpets laid on the streets. Other popular Holy Week events are found in Cidade de Goiás, Congonhas and São João del Rei. Lollapalooza Brasil usually takes place on the first weekend of April in São Paulo and gives you the chance to catch the biggest names in rock, hip-hop and electronic music over three days.

Things quieten down in May and temperatures are noticeably cooler, especially in the south which falls as low as 14ºC on some days. This period between the rainy season (February to April) and the hot, dry season (September to November) is a good time to explore the Amazon, when you have the best opportunities for boat trips and hiking in pleasant weather.
The celebrations of Carnival and Holy Week may have passed, but there’s still plenty of events taking place in Brazil. São Paulo plays host to Virada Cultural Paulistana – the biggest 24-hour festival in the world. Not only is it free to attend but you’ll be able to attend various events around the city such as live music performances and films. The coastal town of Torres is also worth venturing to for its annual International Ballooning Festival. As well as lots of hot-air enthusiasts, it’s also home to concerts, films and extreme sports like skydiving.

Celebrate LGBT pride with millions of people in a parade of parties, cultural fairs and other activities aimed at celebrating diversity. In Rio, the best runners in the world take part in what is considered one of the most scenic marathons in the world, passing by mountainsides and seafronts. Other key events include the Festival Folclórico do Amazonas in Manaus which features a variety of regional folklore performances, as well as Festa de São João – a month-long party showcasing traditional music and dancing.

July is Brazil’s coldest month, so no matter which part of the country you visit it’s best to bring a warm coat for the evening. Average temperatures fall between 28–12ºC, still warm enough to enjoy the beaches of Rio in the southeast, the tropical wetlands of the Pantanal and the Amazon rainforest. School holidays last for practically the entire month so expect most attractions to be busier than usual.
Despite the cooler weather, Brazil keeps the spirit of summer alive with a variety of fun events, such as the Campos do Jordão Winter Festival which features a whole month of live performances. There’s also FLIP (Festa Literária Internacional de Paraty) between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, where literary lovers can attend workshops, lectures and debates. Mountain regions are most popular at this time, as locals enjoy indoor skiing, hiking or sightseeing in places such as the Serra Gaúcha and the hills of Rio.

Comfortable temperatures and minimal rainfall make August one of the best times to visit Brazil. You might want to consider exploring the Pantanal where you have a good chance of spotting jaguars basking on the banks of lakes and rivers. Daytime temperatures tend to be around the mid twenties but can fall drastically in the evening so be sure to bring a good coat.
The southern town of Gramado holds its annual international film festival in August, where the best offerings of Brazilian and other Latin American films of the year are showcased over nine days. In the midwest, the week-long Bananada music festival takes place in Goiânia, transforming the town into a hub of alternative music, culture, food and even skateboarding championships.

The world-famous Rock in Rio alternates between its spiritual home of Rio and an international guest city every other year. The biggest bands take to the stage, with past headliners including Elton John, Guns N’Roses and Rihanna. To soak up some early spring colours, head to the charming city of Holambra – the largest producer of flowers and ornamental plants in Latin America. Spring has sprung and temperatures are on the rise across Brazil in October. It’s still low tourist season but there’s plenty going on to keep you entertained, including music festivals and religious parades.
Oktoberfest comes to many of Brazil’s cities in a big way, particularly in Blumenau where a big parade leads into over two weeks of beer drinking and folk music – the second-biggest celebration after the original Munich festival. By the mouth of the Amazon River, Belém's Círio de Nazaré parade centres around a small statue of Nossa Senhora de Nazaré (Our Lady of Nazareth), which is carried past millions of pilgrims on a flower-filled carriage. Electronic music fans head to Rio for the Ultra Brasil outdoor festival, featuring the world’s top EDM DJs and dazzling stage light displays.

Temperatures begin to rise with averages between 17–35ºC, as does the rainfall. Don’t let the unpredictable weather of this shoulder month put you off – there’s still plenty to see and do in Brazil.
São Paulo hosts one of the most important events of the sporting calendar in November when the Brazilian Grand Prix comes to the Autódromo José Carlos Pace circuit in the Interlagos neighbourhood. For wildlife spotting, it’s probably your last chance to venture out to the Amazon or Santa Catarina for whale watching before the temperatures soar to uncomfortable levels.

Christmas holidays and warm weather mean December is a busy month in Brazil. Average temperatures tend to be between 19–35ºC but the return of the wet season sees rainfall across much of the country.
The first week of December sees the largest off-season carnival held in Natal. Known as Carnatal, it brings together crowds who dance through streets alongside trucks equipped with giant sound systems, known as trios elétricos. Comic Con Experience arrives in São Paulo for three days in December, full of exhibitions and artists related to the biggest comics, TV series, films and video games. As Christmas nears, cities are decorated in beautiful lights, but few more so than Gramado during its Natal Luz festival. You’ll also be able to enjoy a lakeside concert full of entertainers and dazzling special effects. To see in the new year in style, join millions of white-clad partygoers on Copacabana Beach in Rio on 31 December for an incredible fireworks display and lots of live music.

Brazil’s summer takes place between December and March, with the heat becoming more intense the further north you go. If you’re looking to enjoy hiking and sightseeing in major cities like Rio during this time, the cooler period between May and September offers better conditions. In the shoulder periods of April and October, expect it to be chilly in the south with dry and warmer weather along the coastal areas further north. To avoid the harsh winters in the south and the peak of the wet season, plan your trip between September and October.

Pouso Alegre is a bit bigger than the average countryside city. It has markets to purchase some local items and a few touristic places (not the strongest point of the city, though) Nearby cities also have more natural life, like Congonhal with its waterfalls.
Great city to visit, so many things to see and visit. City was very safe with a heavy police present. I would defiantly recommend checking Rio !!
Super nice town. The people are friendly, and the food is really delicious.
I spent one night in the area as I had only came through to see the falls. I wish I had dome more research on other things in the area because I found it boring (and I'm sure there must be more to it than I saw).
Fantastic venue with great staff, always with a smile on their faces and proactive to find you solutions to make your stay the best experience possible.
Boipeba is amazing. Great food, great people, great experiences. My favorite place is Morere and Cueira. Seeing the sky by night was incredible. My favorite food was moqueca de camarão at Ority Praia Bar.
Just went for medical examination appointment. Joinville is a great city , secure with good shoppings.
Maravilhoso, muitas coisas para fazer, paisagens lindas.
Great spot for appreciating nature, lots of special birds and plants, unique climate
Trancoso is amazing 😻… the atmosphere is fantastic! The beaches super pretty and great food .
Iguazu Falls - definitely worth visiting, but check tickets before you go as you might end up in a very long queue. Hotels offer to buy (not too big $$ difference). Birds park worth visiting as well as popping in to Argentina.
Melhor que a Porto Alegre, Brasília e São Paulo. Bairros bonitos e cidade limpa. Gente educada e simpática!
Beautiful city, very friendly people -- easy to get around. Lots of do and see. It felt safe.
Campo Grande is a very good place to stay, a lot of amenities
Having everything from nature, beach and ocean to a vivid nightlife - you will find what you want there. With plenty of bars and restaurants you can really enjoy your holiday at this beautiful place.
Paraty is a little bit of heaven. I love the water, the beaches, the islands and the jungle. Hire a boat and explore! Every night the city is a block party with tables in the street and music spilling out of restaurants. Don't miss the historical museum.
São Paulo is a city for everyone. Check if you have good internet service in the apartment and great coworking places or coffee shops to work. Pinheiros is my favourite neighborhood for short stays.
Dinner at hotel is good. You need a taxi to get around. Airport transfers excellent.
Although small Monte Verde is a very clean and beautiful village surrounded by beautiful green mountains. There are nice trails to walk, great restaurants to eat and even SPAs to have relaxing massage.
Beautiful place with rivers and mountains . Lugar lindo com montanhas e rios , canyons ! Muitas opções para um passeio na natureza.
The place is scenically beautiful. People are friendly and helpful. Uber can be used for transportation and it is reasonable too. English is not understood and spoken much, so language is a little challenging. Also, vegetarian and vegan food is less popular. Stay careful while using your phone on the road, the rest of the thing is great about the place.
Paraty is a very special place on earth. A combination of lush nature at sea and on ground with vibrant history, architecture, decor, art and cuisine. Especially pleasant out of high season. Local people are helpful and nice. Again, especially out of season.
It is a very interesting region. Astonishing church architecture. Well, but I was working hard...
Beautiful place! Delicious food! Lots of History and Culture! I highly recommend.
Paraty can be magical, there's something about this place we can't explain. If you can avoid holiday crown, you can enjoy this historic place even better. Enjoy the great restaurants. Take a bout trip to all those beautiful islands around. Go to Trindade and enjoy the beaches. Do the hiking to praia do Sono. Drink a caipirinha Jorge Amado, and don't forget to buy one cachaça Gabriela.
Ótima cidade que possui festas típicas em várias épocas do ano. a rua curt Hering possui vários barzinhos legais. Onde for vai valer a pena!
Beautiful beaches, tranquil and romantic. An ideal places fro couples reconnecting !
Aparecida is a pilgrimage place, so it's worth visiting.
Brasilia is a very nice city, well organized, with nice restaurants and good places to visit. It is the epicenter of the Brazilian politics, so you have very important buildings you may visit. Culturally, the city is also very interesting, with museums, churches and libraries.
I loved the sea and the bungalow and premises of the hotel. We have our meals at the hotel and at a couple Of restaurantes. We enjoyed the pool, the sea and the sorroundings close to Camocin. Also visited a lagoon nearby and dunes.
We visited a very interesting park, the Mangal das Garças. Terrific place, big enough to spend the whole day there. A huge and very interesting zoobotanical garden, just in the city. Another interesting place to go is de Estação das Docas, where you can enjoy delicious regional food dishes, ice-cream made of regional fruits of the Amazon rainforest, live music at a stage in the air that moves from one point to the other of the falicity.
Beautiful village in the mountains. Way better than Penedo or Campos do Jordao
Rio, as they say, is the city of the gods, and this epithet fits it perfectly. An amazing atmosphere reigns here day and night, small jazz bands are winning by the beach. So the rush of tourists on fancy beaches doesn't matter either. Restaurants offer a variety of dishes, fish and seafood are excellent. You can also find quieter hotels outside the main tourist spots and attractions.
Rio is a beautiful place with sandy white beaches, historic buildings, green mountains and so much more. There is so much you can do. I would recommend visiting it for 4 days at the minimum.
So much to see and do in this city. Museums, art galleries, places to eat and drink, architecture, you name it, Sao Paulo has it. Vibrant, lively city bursting with life. Take care though. The crime rate is high especially crimes relating to thefts of foreigners, particularly white western types. Sorry but it's true. Look after your stuff and yourself. If in doubt ask if an area is safe, especially at night. Excellent Metro system.
Rio is Rio. All you have head about it is true, just multiply your knowledge by 2,3 or more.. If you live not far from Copacabana or Ipanema, take care of your phone.. I almost lost mine! Do not go in favelas alone!
Very big city with all types of attractions. Art museum and so on. But Villa Madalena is great for the very unusual atmosphere of graffiti with a lot of cafes and gist shops. Recomend.
Small but nice city with the beautiful old town. From here you can go to Park National Lencois Marananhenses (Sao Amaro village) and there you can find the unique place at this planet! Just google it...
Impressive, huge, giant waterfall! Nice restaurant with the view to Iguassu! Definitely recommend.
Great! Nice! But keep safe. No night walking in the no police streets.
Beautiful mystic place. lots of places to visit. very friendly people around.
Perfect place for you if you are a kite surfer, family and kids will enjoy also.
Cidade lindíssima, organizada, limpa, destino perfeito para qualquer pessoa!
Everything was perfect! English is my only language and I was always able to find someone to help me. The concierges were awesome especially Pedro, Eibe, Michele and Laura. Every meal was very good with lots of options. Entertainment was great. Pool area was beautiful and well maintained.
A bit of a drive to get to but an interesting little town with an attractive historic district. Felt safe walking around and plenty of food options all around. Though restaurants were a bit pricier than I felt they should have been, likely knowing they're dealing with tourist primarily.
Great beachfront city with clean beaches, great weekend nightlife, lots of beach sports, and super cheap Shrimp!
There is MAGIC in this place and also, MANY DIFFERENT OPTIONS of activities to do, for all ages and many preferences...
Rio has plenty to do and see and is a very relaxed place. The prices of almost everything are cheap (coming from the UK anyway) except wine which is unbelievably expensive even in the supermarkets. The people are friendly and it feels very safe at all times.
Arraial do Cabo is a truly paradise! The color of the waters are just breath taking! Every beach has it's own treasure and I recommend you to visit them all! There are boat tours that take you to the best places in 1 day, if you're planning to be there just for a few days :)
very nice beach with lifeguard. Very nice bars and restaurants to enjoy the night.
Urubici is a great place to explore the mountain region. Many things to do! We liked to explore the different view points and waterfalls. Everything is easy to find and well indicated. It is also super safe.
Really well organized village, different from what you usually see in Brazil. Beautiful beaches. Projeto Tamar is also great. Would definitely go back to visit again.
The Caranguejo boardwalk is pretty nice. Also enjoyed the Mercado Municipal, where you can learn a little bit about the local culture.
The best place in the world! Just beautiful and calm!
Beautiful beaches. Poor urban infrastructure. Overdose of aggressive and rude locals trying to sell services and products during every step you take. Maragogi, where people like your wallet more than you.
