My Dad and I arrived and were welcomed immediately by the host. He showed us around the property and we tried some of his own port wine. We spent some delightful time talking with the host and his wife. The room was wonderful and accommodating. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and satisfying.

We had an outstanding time staying with Teresa and Miguel. Staying at their beautiful home was the highlight of our whole holiday in Portugal. They were both incredibly friendly and helpful and it felt like a true home from home. Their home made breakfast was fantastic as was the evening meal they cooked for us too. Their village is a great place to walk around - the countryside on your doorstep and a village with many very old properties. On booking - the explanation of the rooms is not quite clear from the listing and this might help: The ground floor of their lovely house is given over entirely to guests. There are 3 bedrooms, 2 with ensuite and the 3rd (where we stayed) with a private bathroom across the hallway - absolutely no problem. There were other people staying when we were there and it all worked really well. Contemporary decorations done in a sympathetic style makes all the spaces very lovely. There is also a huge living, dining, kitchen area that opens onto the patio where its especially nice to eat looking over an ancient olive grove. They provide tea and coffee, various condiments, a toaster, fridge, microwave, crockery, cutlery - so easy to self cater - there is nowhere to eat in the village (but two excellent local bars). The family's home is entirely upstairs. Couldnt recommend more highly.

CASA NO CASTANHEIRO, hotel in Longroiva

Located in Meda in the Centro region, CASA NO CASTANHEIRO features a patio. Featuring mountain and garden views, this holiday home also has free WiFi.

“Casa no castainhero” is a modular house made with wood and cork that overlook a beautiful and isolated valley. Here you can feel totally submerged in the nature with a bit of stylish in a very super functional house. It takes 30 min from the Douro Valley, which can be a very good reason to reach the area but the despite the position (that might be considered kind of isolated) it totally worth the trip. Miguel is such a very gentle and good host, who let us feel at home (even tho for a short period of time) and made us the best homemade breakfast we had during our 3 weeks stay in Portugal. Recommended to everyone who loves art, nature, design but also who’s looking for a different experience from a”normal hotel”!

Hotel ok; good bed; room very small; good balcony but almost Impossible to access - the door das stuck. Heated outside swiming pool very small. Restaurant was a disaster: the onion soup was in reality a potato puree with a toast with a bit of onion and cheese on top and the bolognese on the spaggetty bad no tomato sauce at all. But the best was yet to come: rotten watermelon, dry and cold scrambled eggs. The termal facilities were good.

The Côa Valley is a must to visit.

The Côa Valley is a must to visit. The landscape of olive trees and vineyards are stunning. I recommend visiting the Paleontology museum which contains interesting interactive features about the history of the valley. The view from the restaurant's museum is unforgettable! Booking a tour in a Jeep 4x4 to explore the rock's carving is also an interesting activity. If it's very hot, try to do it during the evening.

This hotel exceeded my expectations - the bedroom and bathroom were amazing and the staff very friendly. We checked out approximately 2 hours late because we went to the swimming pool, and the staff did not mind and encourage us to do so because they were not at full capacity. Other hotels wouldn't have authorised that or charged more. The breakfast was very good as well with quite a lot of option and some local products. This is a great place to stay and relax for a few days (2/3 days), and visit cities nearby, such as Vila Nova de Foz Côa and Torre de Moncorvo.
