The location was beautiful. Waking up in the morning to the mountain views was great. The room was big and spacious, the bed was comfortable and the host was very friendly and made us feel welcome. Breakfast was good too.

Monsanto is the most unique small town we visited on our 3wk trip to Portugal. You can start to see the massive boulders from the base of the hillside and then it's 5 km straight up winding narrow road. You will need your host to show you where to park.

It is a good idea to book a place for the night.
It is a good idea to book a place for the night. The views are so incredible and unique you will want to experience day and night in amongst the boulders. There is a wonderful hike to the ruins above the boulder village. There is spectacular lighting in the evening. The village is quite out of the way for travelling. This was our second visit to Monsanto so we knew to book for the night. Lots of unique places to eat. We ate at our hosts' spot and it was great. Once you arrive amongst the boulders, you don't have to leave until your stay is over. You can find all you need there.

Very unique.
Very unique. Great trekking up to the fort (short but steep). We really enjoyed the “rock village”. Our meal at Pestitos and Granitos was delicious. We recommend Monsanto fro those looking for a unique experience.

It's a very peaceful place with lots of great views and we found a lovely bistro to eat at. Some of the roads are very steep and you have to park and walk so for someone not so good on their feet this wouldn't be suitable

Worth a visit.
Worth a visit. We drove too far and Nuno and another guy helped direct my husband doing an 8 point turn. Huge cobbles and steep hills are the order of the day, but it is fascinating and the views of an evening are enchanting. Nuno's house is lovely and we would stay there again. Thank you Nuno for your help!
1) Gracious, kind, helpful, interesting, and accommodating hosts - can’t speak highly enough about them, and Eloíza was beyond fantastic! She helped arrange a driver to take us from and to Castelo Branco’s bus station.
2) Breakfast - the best we had in Portugal
3) Warm and welcoming house with very comfortable bed
4) Location — terrace overlooks sweeping landscape, stone houses everywhere!, hiking trails from town, roses at peak flowering, and it’s just a 5-10 minute walk to the coolest fort and castle we’ve ever visited
My husband and I loved our stay at Casa Do Castello. We booked the King Suite with Balcony and the view was breathtaking. The suite itself was very clean, spacious, nicely decorated and as described on Bookings. We met the host at their restaurant Casa da Gruta for check-in. Later in the evening we enjoyed a meal at the lovely Casa da Gruta restaurant and enjoyed the regional and ancient recipes from Monsanto. Thank you for making our stay and dining experience a wonderful one to remember. Everything was perfect!
The apartment is clean and has all you need.
There are two bathrooms, one is upstairs next to the bedrooms and the second is downstairs in the living room.
It is located in the outskirts of Relva and Monsanto village can be reached even by foot if the weather conditions allow so. There is short road 1.7 km long starts directly from the house and leads to the backyard of Monsanto.
There is wonderful view from the house.
Communication with the host via booking was good.
Nice neighbors that helped us with the parking.
Such an authentic place! The hotel has a fully equipped kitchen and cozy dinner room with vintage furniture. I love this kind of places, but maybe for someone it would look like outdated hotel. But I loved it!
The host (Anna Paula) is English speaking, she was incredibly sweet and professional, as I understood she takes care of everything on site: check-in/check-out, cleaning, breakfasts etc. And yes, the breakfast was included and it was served like if we were at restaurant.
Great experience!
Words cannot describe the views from Monsanto and the Old House, and pictures cannot describe how wonderful our time with Eloiza and Fernando was. They were such gracious hosts and made sure we felt at home and welcome. They helped with bags, made dinner reservations for us, gave us a wonderful history of Monsanto, and prepared a wonderful breakfast on our porch. Our only regret is that we did not stay longer! The sunset was amazing, but our hosts were even better.
We absolutely loved our stay at Taverna Lusitana! The hosts (who own and operate the tavern) were welcoming, kind and went out of their way to make our stay there enjoyable. Our accommodations were wonderfully comfortable, spotlessly clean and so unique - we really enjoyed ourselves. The breakfast served to us on the patio overlooking the hillside was delicious. Had we known how beautiful it is in Monsanto, we would have extended our stay there.
What an amazing place Monsanto! The rooms were built in and around boulders and was charmingly furnished. The breakfast was amazing and so inexpensive. And I cannot say enough kind things about our Host Estela. Kind --and genuinely delights in getting to know you. I felt like I was staying with a friend I hadn't seen in many years. She is as delightful as the accommodation. And her store is filled with amazing art and well-curated pieces for sale.
The place was very good value for money and considering we were there at very low season when the main resort was mostly closed it was good overall. The apartment we got was nice and well furnished. The person in charge was very quick and receiving us and was accommodating. The apartment was good for someone with a car wanting to stay very close to Monsanto, as that was close and there was very good parking space.
This was such a cool quirky place to stay. Had a great view from the balcony. Great to have a washing machine. Contact with the host was good. Stayed here with our daughter - bedrooms were small so had our suitcases in the 'lounge'.
Monsanto is definitely worth the visit, one night is enough to see it all but if you have time and want to chill out take an extra night.
It was exciting to have a room in amongst the rocks of unique Monsanto. The room offered everything but certainly wasn’t the big room I expected! It was, however well placed for a nearby afternoon viewpoint and then a climb to the fort in the morning! Also not far from a cute bar/ cafe the next day where you could sit above with magnificent views!
Everything about our stay was great! The location of the hotel is just right as there are quite a few free parking spots around the area and at walkable distance from all the points of interest/restaurants/cafes/etc. Jorge and Ana Paula are super friendly and helpful with any inquiries we might had. Breakfast is decent and diverse.
Fantastic location to explore Monsanto. Cozy cottage with some basic amenities. There were some problems with the property (caused by previous guests) that the host was rectifying when we arrived. He was very apologetic and managed to make the property suitable for our stay.
Breakfast essentials were already in the Fridge upon our arrival and fresh bread was delivered in the morning. The house was perfectly located in beautiful Monsanto right on the path to the Castle. Monsanto was the highlight of our trip to Portugal.
Great location just outside Monsanto - you are close enough to walk although it is steep uphill.
Good breakfast - lots of choice, good fresh orange juice & superb home grown figs.
Pretty gardens but nowhere to sit & enjoy them!
Nice big room.
This is a wonderful place to stay. A little out of the way, but not hard to find, and close to Monsanto. During our stay, the oranges were ripe - and delicious. The breakfast was excellent, and Ingrid was very helpful. I'd love to return.
It was a charming, rustic house with a wonderful courtyard and very relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful views. Very private yet in the center of everything and a short hike from Monsanto. The hosts were beyond fantastic.
The location was very good for seeing the town of Monsanto. The room was spacious and the beds were comfortable. The breakfast was very good. The elevator was helpful.
