It was our first trip to the Azores but will definitely be going back because there is so many other stunning parts of the island that we didn't get time for and we will certainly be using Hotel Arcanjo again. The hotel was brilliantly placed to act as a base for exploring the island. We hired a car with pick up from the airport and we feel that this is the best method for getting around and getting the best from the island in the time available. We travelled approximately 450km in a 1ltr engine Ford Fiesta and used just over half a tank of fuel which cost us 40 euro to fill again when taking back to the airport return. We found the prices in restaurants and shops very reasonable and enjoyed some very cheap prices at various locations for coffee and snacks during the daytime. The island felt very safe when travelling about during the day or at night. It is beautifully maintained and felt like being in one huge national park. Hats off to all who live there and all who keep it that way. Can't wait to get back.

We travelled all around Sao Miguel, Azores by car and had a fabulous time. It is an amazing island and exceeded my expectations. It’s so picturesque and lush and if you are thinking of going go before everyone discovers it 😁 Not a great amount to see in Lagoa but a great base as central to the island.
